Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 the boy and the box

Azoth: I wonder where this road goes today

Azoth walked slowly under the quiet sky the wind brushing against his hair and the small wooden box tied to his belt swung lightly with each step He looked around the empty fields and the villages in the distance but nothing seemed to call to him

Azoth: Maybe someone will need help today

The road was dusty and long and he could see a small town far ahead He had never been there before but something told him to walk there He tightened the rope on his box and kept moving

When he reached the town he saw a boy sitting on the steps of a broken well The boy looked hungry and scared

Azoth: Are you okay

Boy: I have no food and no one is here

Azoth: Wait here I will help you

Azoth went to the small bakery nearby He asked the old baker for some bread and the baker gave him a loaf without a word Azoth brought it back to the boy

Azoth: Here you go eat this

Boy: Thank you I… I thought no one would help me

Azoth: I like helping people

The boy smiled and ate slowly Azoth watched him and felt something warm in his chest He did not know why but it made him happy

Azoth continued walking through the town He saw a woman crying by a fountain Her hands were wet and her hair stuck to her face from the cold rain

Azoth: Are you crying because of someone

Woman: Yes he left and said he would return but it has been many years

Azoth: I do not know what to say

Woman: That is enough I just needed someone to look at me

Azoth stayed there for a while They did not speak much but the presence of another person made the woman calm After some time she nodded to him

Woman: Thank you

Azoth: You are welcome

As the sun began to set the sky turned orange and pink Azoth walked out of the town He found a small forest nearby and decided to rest He laid down under a tree and opened the box just a little to see the rope He did not open it fully yet but touching it gave him comfort

Azoth: Maybe one day I will know why I carry you

A small rustle came from the bushes A fox appeared Its fur was red and soft and its eyes were curious

Azoth: Hello little fox are you lost

The fox did not answer It just walked closer and sat beside him Azoth smiled and petted it

Azoth: You can stay here with me tonight

The night was cold and the wind whispered through the trees Azoth built a small fire with dry branches and leaves The fox stayed close to him and the warmth of the fire made him sleepy

Azoth: I wonder if the people I helped today will be okay tomorrow

He looked at the stars and felt a quiet happiness He had not done anything big but he had shared bread and a kind look and it felt like a small adventure

The next morning Azoth packed his few things and continued walking He passed fields where farmers were planting seeds

Farmer: Good morning young man what brings you here

Azoth: I am just walking and seeing the world

Farmer: You should rest in the village at least the sun is strong

Azoth: Thank you I will

Azoth moved on and came to a river He saw a small wooden bridge broken in the middle He stepped carefully and the box hit his side

Azoth: Steady steady

On the other side he found a boy trying to fish but his net was broken

Azoth: Can I help you with that

Boy: I do not know how to fix it

Azoth: Let me try

He tied the net carefully using some rope he had in his bag It was not perfect but it could hold some fish

Boy: Thank you I can catch fish now

Azoth: You are welcome

They watched the water together for a while Azoth felt calm He liked helping even in small ways

As the day passed he entered a dark forest The trees were tall and the shadows moved strangely He felt nervous but kept walking

Azoth: I hope nothing scary is here

Suddenly a wolf appeared [quick attack and growl] It looked hungry and ready to attack

Azoth: Stay back

He picked up a stick and swung it [simple defense] The wolf jumped but did not touch him It circled and growled again

Azoth: I do not want to hurt you

He threw a piece of bread he had left from the bakery The wolf sniffed it and cautiously took it Then it walked away disappearing into the shadows

Azoth: That was close

He continued walking until he found a small clearing A stream ran through it and the water was clear He washed his hands and drank some water feeling refreshed

Azoth: Maybe this is a good place to rest

He laid down by the stream and watched the clouds move slowly He thought of all the people he met today the boy in the town the woman by the fountain the farmer and the little fox They all had little stories but he felt connected to them somehow

Azoth: I may not know why I walk but I like the people I meet

The sun set again and Azoth prepared to sleep His heart felt light even though the road ahead was long

Azoth: Tomorrow I will walk again

He closed his eyes and held the box close It was not magic or gold but it was part of him and it gave him courage
