Chapter 87 - Unpopular Robbery

In plenty of places where stocks are traded and bought, there is no cash on hand. But on that fateful day on Blue Street, there was roughly enough cash on hand that it could have made whoever held it set for life.

"Do you know where my parents are?"

Even if the unit had agreed on going into this job loud, that didn't mean that they didn't have to be smart about things. Lia was very poor when it came to fighting or burglary, but she was a great actor.

"Get out, now."

Alas, even the performance of a lifetime can be overlooked by unwavering and uncaring eyes. The secretary simply refused to look up from his newspaper.

"But I need to find out where my parents are."

"That's your problem. Get out before I call security."

The secretary motioned to the security guard to move. When a hand met Lia's shoulder, a hellhound's mouth was summoned to enwrap the frightened security guard's hand. The owner of the aforementioned hand let out a scream and a variety of profanities.

"Huh, now they show up when I ask them too."

Ever since Sears had temporarily killed the two hounds, they had been far more obedient than they were previously. BB guessed that their dying was kind of like a shock caller. Though he was never one for testing this theory because he never got a close look at them and that he would lose a hand if he tried to test it.

"We have an intruder; we need security out here as soon as possible."

The woman at the front desk had stood from her cozy chair that had an imprint. When Lia had removed a man's hand, she easily made a big enough scene to draw every security guard in the building to her. With nearly three dozen guns aimed at her head, she silently made a wish.

"Please don't be late."

Her wishes were usually answered by her great luck. Which was usually overshadowed by her terrible eyesight. Once she found she raised her head, she saw that the entirety of the security detail was being brought down by one man.

"I don't just sit there with your shoes untied. Move!"

Lia's body went on autopilot as she couldn't even hear what Sears was saying or see too clearly. Despite that, her automated movement was in sync with what he yelled at her to do. Tie up the guards, break a security camera or two, it all blended together as she was slowly moved further and further to the men's room where she had to put cash in the black plastic bag.

"Can you hurry up?"

Note to self, wash your hands for at least an hour after this is done.

"There, it's done."

As Lia exited the bathroom she felt hope for the future. BB had said he could come back. That meant that Sugar could come back. Little did she know about how close her goal would be to being solved.

"You know, this job would be a lot easier if we just robbed a normal bank."

"Just drive."

Her senses came back into tune before she looked around the car. Joey was carrying a gun in his arms thanks to not being able to use his fingers. It made Lia feel a laugh come about. Though she killed it before it could truly come about.

"Come here, son."

Sugar had been met with the parents. They looked a lot like him. When his eyes met with the couple's, he could feel that they were in pain. This wouldn't stop him from continuing on with his mission. If they understood they wouldn't blame him.

"It feels so good to be home!"

"Yes son, it does."

With some more time to think, Sugar had come to the conclusion he wasn't proud of. He would have to take on the life of this kid, do things to get BB's attention, and leave. I got to get some kind of scholarship to a good school or maybe make some machine they don't have yet. But what about these people? I will cross that bridge when I get there.

"Can we go home?"

The two agreed and put him in the back of some nice car and drove him back through the less than sublime streets of the relatively unknown city. Sugar made the assumption that this place wasn't actually popular until something big happened. What that was beyond him.

"Sure thing."

On the car ride back, Sugar saw them wrap strange cloth around themselves before the car started moving. Upon watching it, he played along before rewinding the moment in his mind and applying it to himself. Being able to apply his knowledge of the world after to the before was something that Sugar learned back at the orphanage. In the criminology classes, they were taught crimes before and after so that they could get away with crimes whilst also being able to solve them. This was applicable everywhere in life because being able to foresee the past and future is something needed even outside of criminal purposes.

"Alright, just get a little closer…"

BB, all the way in the back of a small office in Buffalo, was talking with the likes of D.O.W.N's director. He was a tall man in a doctor's outfit with a white mask that had no eyeholes or holes at all. It wrapped around his head in such a way that you couldn't make out his face too much, but it was obvious that he was tired from how he spoke.

"You forgot about the Texas ranger over there."

Currently in the small office, BB was helping this man out with his model. It was during the Red River Bridge War. BB had no knowledge of it. Probably because it wasn't actually a war and wasn't important to anyone.

"So tell me, why are you here?"

"See, in about three hours, people are going to come here looking for my unit and you're going to protect them and teach them your ways."

Even through the mask, he could feel the eyes looking at him.

"What makes you believe that I have any reason to help you people?"

"Two hundred thousand dollars and change. Plus, I'm pretty sure that there is an illegal operation my unit just robbed and there's probably something supernatural to do with it. Just like the Harley case."

The director was most upset with the fact that he was forced to take the deal. He would be put one step closer to his goal but also his ego would hurt from it coming from the mysterious man.
