Chapter 47 - Meet the Grandparents

Sugar felt horrible. As if all of his organs were trying to escape with his vomit as well. What was that? Scott probably entered my mind, and he also probably faced off against Lighter, so that means that he either won or he got sent out and I'm still on the road to death.

"Sugar, I have bad news."

"I know."

He was still a sharp kid, even if he was going to end up seeing the back of his eyelids for a prolonged period of time.

"Looks like we're back on square one."

Scott chimed in a little bit later.

"He used the power on me; he has a plan and it's worse than what I expected. He doesn't plan on killing Sugar, he plans on taking over."

"Taking over? Seems we need to get back to square one. Nothing will work."

BB hadn't felt this powerless in centuries. He felt like he was in a hole and his brother was laughing at him. He needed a way to get a leg over Lighter. He knew he needed his father's affection, so he had an immediate idea. Not too long afterwards, he had a plan.

"What're you thinking about? I can tell, you know."

"We're going to do something, but first, I need you to tie him up until we're done."

"Are you sure?"

BB was smiling. Even his body was returning to its prime as he had not only been regrowing his black hair, but he was also losing wrinkles, and his face was becoming paler. Something was off and nobody knew what was going on.

"Positive. We're going to Backtown!"

Like that, they were on the ship and talking amongst themselves like usual, but Lia was giving Sugar the cold shoulder of sorts. She would talk to him, but it wouldn't have any emotion behind it. He was in the middle of cleaning his shoes and his red jacket along with his black jeans were placed in the washing machine along with everything else that he wore during his trip to Babylon and the modern day.

"Why are we here?"

"BB says he has a plan, but I doubt it."

"You really need to stop being so nice when you talk about him. He makes you work like a dog and then does things like this knowing that it won't work out."

She was talking out of her neck during the ordeal. She didn't know BB. She didn't know that Alexandria York was actually a founding member of Backtown and was a good friend of BB's. He loved her as if she was a sister. Sure, she was angry. She and him would argue. But at the same time, it came from a good spot.

"Scott, this is just going to be me and you. Do whatever I say."

"Always have."

"Right..."

BB remembered back to the time that he was shot in the elbow by Scott because of miscommunication but that's a tale for another day.

"So, how do we do it?"

"Simple, we break in, we grab Dials, and we make for the hills."

Scott tried to sound confident in the presence of his brother in arms, but it ended up falling flat.

"Sure."

Scott was to walk straight into Backtown like he owned the place.

"Who's that?"

A group of girls came from the small huts that Dials made for them. He had taken over and placed the people of Backtown far more on their way than anyone could've ever put them on.

"She just seems to be one of those girls from the school. Go inside. She doesn't look familiar."

Dials was watching what he thought was a suspicious child and something about her face and eyes, those eyes, reminded him of somebody, it triggered his photographic memory.

"Do I know your parents?"

"My parents are gone."

"Really? What happened to them? I have time, come."

Scott was shocked at how nice he was when he spoke with whom he thought was an emotionally recluse father. He seemed warm and he looked like BB when he was in his forties.

"They were taken. But can I ask a question about you?"

"Sure."

"Why have you been so nice to me?"

Dials's face tightened as he remembered his sons. They were smart, not as smart as him. Though he did love them, he just had a hard time showing it and things usually didn't go according to plan in the family department.

"When I was a boy, I was sent to an orphanage. They treated me like a king as I just went up the social ladder, they stayed there. One day, I decided to donate to the orphanage, and they sent back an heir. You do know what that is?"

"Yes. Please continue."

Dials talked about how he had a son, and how he had lost any chances of building a relationship with him and it hurt him when he ran away and became a crook. Then, he got himself a true heir. But then that true heir had become resentful with how he had loved his first son so much.

"See, I'm good with kids, just not my own."

"I understand. Maybe one day, you could get a second chance."

"In another life."
