(KRYSTAL'S POV)
His laughter hits me like a slap in the face.
For a second I just sit there, staring at him, watching the way his shoulders shook with it, the way the sound fills the room that was thick with silence and heat only seconds ago. My frown deepens, and my stomach twists itself into a hard knot.
Why the hell is he laughing? Did he catch on? Did I push it too far?
"What?" I finally huff, trying to sound annoyed instead of nervous. "Why are you laughing?"
He doesn't answer right away. He just finishes laughing, his chest rising and falling as a small grin tugs at the corner of his mouth. Then he downs the rest of his wine, sets the glass on the side table and leans back, his eyes glinting like he's enjoying some private joke I wasn't in on.
When his eyes meet mine again, they're colder.
Sharper.
"You're a really good liar," he says finally, his tone almost admiring. "You almost had me there. Almost."
"I'm not lying." I reply.
