Chapter 67 - Support Soul Masters

Just as everyone was chatting happily, the sound of clanging suddenly came from outside.

Dai Mubai quickly stood up and said, "That's the bell calling us from the principal. Fatty, you take them directly to the main training ground. I'll go get Zhuqing." With that, he quickly left the cafeteria.

Ma Hongjun looked at his departing figure and muttered, "Boss Dai seems a bit different now. I've never seen him care so much about a woman before."

Ning Rongrong giggled, "How old are you, still talking about women, women."

Ma Hongjun snorted proudly, "I may be young, but I've had experience with women. Let's go—Principal doesn't like tardiness." As he said this, he shivered slightly, clearly recalling some past misfortune.

"Teacher Tang, we'll head out first." The group greeted Yun Chuan and hurried outside.

Yun Chuan nodded, then resumed eating his breakfast. Though it had been hard to swallow at first, once he calmed down and savored it, even plain food had a certain flavor. Besides, he wouldn't be here for much longer anyway.

When Tang San, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Ma Hongjun reached the main training ground, a sleepy-eyed Oscar had already arrived, holding a sausage he had made himself.

Oscar's appearance had changed significantly—most notably, his facial hair was gone.

Tang San almost didn't recognize him. With his beard shaved off, Oscar looked completely different. Previously, Ma Hongjun had jokingly said that both Dai Mubai and Oscar had "pretty-boy faces," which Tang San now realized was envy speaking.

Dai Mubai was already very handsome, especially his unique eyes that easily drew attention. But purely in terms of appearance, he still couldn't compare to Oscar without the full beard.

Oscar's peach-blossom-shaped eyes were deep-set, giving him a profound look. His face was flawless like jade, wearing a playful, worldly smile. He looked like a charming nobleman.

Of course, even the most handsome nobleman would look a bit ridiculous gnawing on a sausage.

"Your beard?" Tang San walked over to Oscar and pointed at his face.

Oscar chuckled, quickly finishing the sausage, and whispered, "A few new beauties arrived, didn't they? Gotta look sharp to get their attention. You wouldn't understand—you're inexperienced. Boss Dai obviously likes that cold girl. Xiao Wu is yours, Fatty's fiery personality doesn't attract girls, so my target is Ning Rongrong. You're not going to compete with me, right?"

Tang San patted his forehead. "May I ask your age?"

Oscar didn't hesitate. "Fourteen. What of it? My dad already had me at fourteen."

Tang San realized that if one wanted to test psychological endurance, Shrek Academy was clearly a good choice. Never mind the teachers—even these students were monsters. Even he himself had hidden weapon techniques that didn't belong in this world.

Soon, Dai Mubai returned with Zhu Zhuqing. Zhu Zhuqing clearly kept some distance, and Dai Mubai's expression was noticeably unpleasant.

Oscar laughed maliciously. "Looks like Boss Dai hit a snag again. His usual smooth moves with women won't work this time."

While they were talking, a middle-aged man walked from the other side of the training ground. He looked around fifty, sturdy, with a distinctive face: a slightly protruding chin, wide cheekbones, a flat face, and a slightly hooked nose.

If one had to describe him, it would be: his face resembled the sole of a shoe. Though his eyes were closed, he still looked somewhat cunning. He wore black-framed glasses with rigid square frames.

Oscar introduced him, "This is our principal, the founder of Shrek Academy—Four-Eyed Cat-Eagle, Flander. A level seventy-eight Soul Saint, even stronger than Teacher Zhao. He also possesses a flying-type beast Martial Soul, which is quite rare among Soul Masters. Fatty is his direct disciple."

Xiao Wu murmured, "Level seventy-eight, that's manageable. I didn't expect the classic line 'only accept monsters, no ordinary humans' to come from him. Uncle Sausage, does our academy have any Douluo-level Soul Masters?"

Oscar shook his head. "Call me Sausage Specialist Oscar. You think Douluo-level Soul Masters are common? Not at all. Across the entire continent, there are fewer than a hundred above Douluo, all supported by the Empire and its vassal kingdoms. As for Titled Douluos, only about ten exist between the two empires. Not easy to see at all."

Xiao Wu seemed relieved. "That's good then."

Tang San glanced at her. "Xiao Wu, what's the matter?"

She shook her head, hiding her thoughts. "Nothing."

Seeing she clearly didn't want to say, Tang San didn't press further.

Flander stopped in front of the seven students. His hoarse voice rang out, "This year is promising—we've gained four more little monsters. I, Flander, principal of Shrek Academy, welcome you. Later, each of you will pay one hundred gold coins to Teacher Li in charge of finances. Mubai."

Dai Mubai stepped forward, showing respect and a hint of admiration.

Flander said, "Four juniors have joined. Show them the academy rules, then go rest and restore yourselves to peak condition. Today's first class will start tonight. Oscar, you and Ning Rongrong are exceptions. Come with me."

Oscar's face fell, reluctantly walking to Flander to salute. When Ning Rongrong joined him, his expression improved slightly.

Flander waved. "The rest of you may rest. Remember—reach your best state before dark. Don't say I didn't warn you. Our teaching isn't like elsewhere; you may even face danger."

Zhu Zhuqing left without looking back. Dai Mubai didn't follow this time. Ma Hongjun quickly disappeared as well.

Tang San didn't rush; he wanted to see how the principal taught.

Oscar and Ning Rongrong both had support-type Martial Souls, which was why they didn't attend the evening class. Tang San wondered why the teaching was scheduled at night.

Tang San stayed, and naturally, Xiao Wu remained by his side.

Flander paid no attention to the others and addressed Oscar and Ning Rongrong, "Everyone has their own cultivation method. Martial Souls differ, so do cultivation methods. On Douluo Continent, nearly no two Martial Souls are identical. The academy won't teach you how to cultivate Martial Souls, but how to use them—how to survive in future battles and support your teammates."

Tang San found Flander's words familiar, recalling similar teachings from his master, though the master's explanation was more detailed.

Oscar seemed used to such lessons, keeping his head down without comment. Ning Rongrong nodded in agreement.

Flander continued, "You two are support-type Soul Masters—one enhances attributes, the other provides sustenance-type Martial Soul effects. Support Soul Masters, whether on the battlefield or in daily life, need protection from allies; otherwise, survival is difficult. Oscar, tell me, as a support Soul Master, how can you best preserve yourself on the battlefield?"

Oscar replied without hesitation, "Stay behind allies as much as possible, use all available terrain and buildings to avoid risks, and stay away from danger zones."

Flander nodded. "Correct. But there's one thing you didn't mention. As a support Soul Master, the ability to escape is essential. One who can't escape isn't a good support Soul Master. And what does escaping require? Stamina. Even as Soul Masters with soul power, your bodies are stronger than ordinary people. But your enemies are other Soul Masters. As support Soul Masters, you must train your stamina. In critical moments, one extra step could save your life."

Oscar, familiar with Flander, inwardly grimaced. So there's no escaping this today.

Sure enough, after the long explanation, Flander nodded to Oscar and Ning Rongrong. "Today's lesson is stamina training. From now, run twenty laps around the entire village. If you're not back before lunch, no lunch for you. You may use your Martial Souls to assist. Oscar, lead the way."

"Yes," Ning Rongrong responded and immediately started running. Oscar shot a slightly resentful glance at Tang San and the others before following.

Although the village where Shrek Academy was located was small, Flander meant the entire village including the farmland. One lap was over three kilometers; twenty laps was a terrifying distance. Even with soul power over level twenty, finishing this before noon would be grueling for support-type Soul Masters. Even for combat Soul Masters of that level, it wouldn't be easy.

Seeing Oscar and Ning Rongrong run off, Flander pointed at Tang San. "You, come with me."

Tang San nodded, waving to Xiao Wu to stay behind. He then followed Flander into the academy.
