I've seen people die before. Too many. But not like this—not her.

She's breathing. Shallow, but steady. It should calm me. It doesn't.

All I can see is the moment she fell, the sound of her body hitting the concrete, the flash of light before everything went black. Something inside me had snapped clean through, and I don't know if it's fixed itself since.

"Two minutes out," Thorne calls from the front seat.

I nod but don't answer. I can't. My jaw's locked tight. Fury hums through my nerves like current.

It's not clean anger, it's the kind that strips everything else away until only violence is left.

The estate gates swing open. The floodlights flare white as we speed in. Men fall into formation without a word—good. They should be afraid. My silence is worse than shouting.
