Chapter 1173 - Chapter 1170: The Origin of Team Aqua and Team Magma

My nakamas, I want to inform you about something important regarding the story Chronicles 📖🔥

Officially, the novel has 1,467 chapters (it may vary by one chapter more or less, but it is definitely over 1,450).

Starting from chapter 1373, which is now translated directly by me, we are moving in exact sequence with the original version.

Now comes the serious part… and a slightly chaotic one 😅 From chapter 1374 of the original, each chapter in Chinese has around 8,000 words. When translated, depending on the content, they end up being between 3,000 and 6,000 words in either Spanish or English.

To maintain a good translation pace and, above all, quality, I made the decision to split those chapters. The goal is for each published chapter to have approximately 900 to 1,200 words.

So, where will we actually end up chapter-wise?

👉 I honestly don't know.

And yes… we are sailing through uncharted territory 🌊🧭.

I tried translating them without splitting, but to be completely honest, the result was a monumental disaster: I kept getting lost and felt that even after hours of work, I made no real progress. On top of that, it wasn't comfortable to read and didn't do justice to the story.

So, for everyone's sake (and for my own mental health), I've decided to stick with this format, just as you saw in the chapters uploaded today.

Thank you for your patience, your support, and for continuing to accompany me on this journey. All of this is done so that Chronicles maintains the level it truly deserves 💪🔥

"Me?" Cain let out a self-deprecating laugh.

Did Erick really think a commoner could reach this point through mere talent and luck?

Cain waved his hand. "Forget it. Better not talk about that."

But precisely because of that evasive answer, Erick could sense how difficult Cain's path must have been.

With a serious face and a complex look toward Cain, he took a deep breath.

"I want to go out and walk, to see the outside world. All these years I've been working for the League or infiltrating different organizations... I've almost forgotten why I wanted to become a trainer in the first place."

Cain nodded calmly.

"If you need help, you can look for me. And if there's something you don't understand, you can also come to me," he said firmly.

Hearing that, Erick didn't continue the topic.

He truly wanted to see with his own eyes.

Although the dream had felt too real, in the end, it was still just a dream.

His experience within Team Magma was merely the tip of the iceberg.

He wanted to travel through different regions to see if things were any different elsewhere. His first destination would be the Kanto region.

Cain didn't stop him.

He had already done what he needed to do—the rest depended solely on Erick's choices.

"In that case, let's head out and get you ready to leave," said Cain.

Erick gripped two Poké Balls tightly in his hand, ready to fight at any moment.

Cain, accompanied by Slowking and Gengar, raised his hand and opened a passage through the chaotic gray wall of the alternate space.

Without hesitation, they passed through the corridor and exited.

As expected, after two days, Team Magma was no longer waiting in that same place.

The sudden appearance of Cain and Erick caused a bit of commotion but didn't draw too much attention.

It wasn't until Slowking's psychic power began to surge intensely, preparing to use Teleport, that a loud bark echoed.

A muscular Mightyena shot out from one of Team Magma's tents, tearing through the newly repaired canvas.

Along with it appeared a Crobat and a Camerupt.

But it was already too late.

This time, Slowking didn't disperse his power to shield Cain; instead, he focused entirely on activating Teleport.

Because of that, the speed was much faster.

Psychic energy enveloped the two of them, and they vanished in an instant.

Moments later, Maxie slowly emerged from the tent and realized he had been deceived.

The enemy hadn't fled immediately but had stayed hidden until Team Magma lowered its guard—only to reappear and escape again.

In that brief instant, he caught sight of Erick's bandaged body, and his fury erupted.

However, what he didn't know was that Erick, who was still uncertain about his future, had already made his decision—thanks to Cain's intervention—not to return to the League.

And as for Maxie, Erick didn't feel much hatred.

He wasn't seeking revenge against Team Magma.

He had already let go of all burdens and attachments; nothing bound him anymore.

When they opened their eyes again, they found themselves in the forest outside Meteor Falls.

Erick placed the two Poké Balls he held back onto his belt.

The fact that they hadn't fought was for the best—his Pokémon still hadn't fully recovered.

Cain remembered the red-and-yellow energy crystal he had taken from Maxie's hands and asked, "By the way, do you know what was inside the metal box that Maxie valued so much?"

Hearing the question, Erick looked at him in surprise.

A strange light flashed in his eyes, but after thinking for a moment, he answered, "With your identity, you should already know that Team Magma has always sought Groudon, right?"

Cain nodded.

"Actually, what I'm about to tell you is something Maxie told me as part of a trap—a secret."

"Maxie and Archie were once residents of a small village on an island off the coast of Hoenn. The villagers there worshiped the gods of land and sea: Groudon and Kyogre."

"In the village's shrine, two energy crystals were kept."

"That's how Maxie and Archie, after hearing the elders' legends about Groudon and Kyogre, began to worship those Pokémon with fanatical devotion."

"Maxie believed that since humans and many Pokémon lived on land, the power of Groudon should be used to dry the seas, thus increasing habitable space."

"Archie, on the other hand, thought that most living creatures existed in the oceans. His desire was to turn all land back into sea, so that everything could return to nature."

"And that's where the difference between their ideals began," Erick explained, recounting part of their past.

"And what's the connection between them and those two energy crystals?" asked Cain.

Erick continued, "According to the elders, the energy within those crystals came directly from Groudon and Kyogre themselves. When the two gods—now in slumber—awoke, they would seek those gems."

"With the crystals, both would become even more powerful."

"One night, Maxie and Archie stole them. When they touched them, they witnessed firsthand the magnificence of the two deities. It was precisely thanks to those crystals that Team Aqua and Team Magma were born."

"You could say the origin of both teams lies there."

"Maxie always proclaimed himself the chosen one, destined to awaken the god of the land."

Upon hearing the explanation, Cain finally understood the true value of the crystals.

"Do you know why Team Magma and Team Aqua previously sent people to investigate Meteor Falls?"

"It was because they received instructions through those crystals. It wasn't coincidence, nor any prior agreement between Maxie and Archie—both had simply sensed that mysterious signal transmitted by the crystals."

"That was, in fact, the main reason I decided to steal the crystal Maxie carried," Erick concluded.

Could Groudon and Kyogre still maintain some kind of link with those crystals?

Cain was a bit astonished.

Had they been asleep too long, waiting for Maxie and Archie to find the Red Orb and the Blue Orb to awaken them?

Or was it merely a personal delusion of both leaders?

Or perhaps... someone else was manipulating them in secret?

Now that Maxie had lost one of the crystals, what fate awaited Team Magma?

Cain wondered with interest.

"That's all I know. I didn't get the chance to tell the old man. If you return, do me a favor and pass it along," said Erick, preparing to leave.

"You really won't go back?" asked Cain.

Without looking back, Erick waved his hand.

But just before departing, he stopped and suddenly asked, "Cain... you're not just a commoner, nor just a League member, are you?"

That question caught Cain off guard.

Though Erick couldn't see his face, he clearly sensed his reaction.

That alone was enough to confirm what he suspected.

"Thanks for the dream! If what I see out there turns out exactly like what I saw within it, I'll come back to follow you."

"No matter if you're with the League, Team Rocket, or any other organization... I want to see how far you can go," he said with determination.

He mounted his Pidgeot and disappeared into the night.

When Erick was finally out of sight, Cain smiled.

"Did he figure it out upon waking? Or perhaps... long before that?"

"Either way... he's definitely an interesting candidate..."
