But even so, the Mega Evolution proceeded normally.
Cain observed it clearly: the stone that the middle-aged man had placed on Alakazam's head was not a Mega Stone.
It wasn't even a Key Stone.
And yet it could still carry out the Mega Evolution?
That reminded Cain of the Mega Wave that Alva in the future would manage to develop.
It was also capable of provoking Mega Evolution without depending on a Mega Stone or the bond between trainer and Pokémon.
But upon careful comparison, he realized this was not that wave nor a Mega Stone, but a completely different method.
"ALAAKK!"
Alakazam roared again with strength, absorbing all the energy of the Mega Evolution into its body.
At the same time, the symbol of Mega Evolution appeared fleetingly in front of him, only to vanish in the blink of an eye.
In that instant, Alakazam's appearance completely changed.
The part of his body that resembled armor transformed into a purple robe.

There was a joking saying: the psychic strength of Alakazam's evolutionary line was tied to the number of spoons they could control.
Abra was the weakest, Kadabra could handle one, Alakazam controlled two... and now this Mega Alakazam dominated five.
The number doubled at once.
Though it was a joke, it carried some truth.
The stone with strange carvings that the man had pressed onto Alakazam's head had disintegrated into dust, scattering in the air.
It was as if that Mega Evolution energy had been stored inside the stone, and now had been completely absorbed by Alakazam.

Did that group have the ability to make Pokémon mega evolve?
Had Mega Evolution already been discovered in such an early era?
Suddenly, Cain felt a much deeper interest and curiosity toward that enigmatic Sacred Church.
However, after scanning Mega Alakazam's data with his system, Cain noticed something strange.
Although his form had changed and his power too, the increase was not as great as it should have been.
It seemed to reach only half the effects of a normal Mega Evolution.
It was a "false" Mega Evolution.
"Looks like this Mega Evolution is a defective product," Cain thought.
"Hahahaha! Do you see? Do you see? This is... the supreme divine power of our Sacred Church!" the man shouted, laughing with exaggerated arrogance.
As if, simply because Alakazam had completed Mega Evolution, victory was already assured.
"In fact, I'm starting to feel curious about that so-called Sacred Church you keep talking about," Cain said coldly.

With the order, Alakazam closed his eyes and upon opening them again, his psychic power surged with even greater force.
Several blades condensed from pure psychic energy materialized, shooting at great speed toward Tyranitar.
Tyranitar grew serious. He could feel the real threat in those blades.

The first was blocked with his arms.
Even so, Tyranitar instinctively stepped back a pace.
He looked in surprise at his own arm.
The power increase after Mega Evolution was truly dangerous.
And that was only the first blade.
What followed was a barrage.

Consecutive strikes slammed into Tyranitar's arms, forcing him to retreat again and again.
Normally, Alakazam could generate three or four blades at most, but now his psychic energy seemed endless, launching them in a frenzied volley against Tyranitar.
The giant raised both arms to shield himself, enduring the impacts.
At last!
After firing ten blades, Alakazam had to pause briefly to recover strength, giving Tyranitar a breather.
His arms were numb.
The quantity of psychic power had not changed, but the quality had increased.
"TYRRAANN!"
The colossus roared with fury.
Were they underestimating him?
Cain also sensed Tyranitar's anger. Being pushed back by a "false" opponent was not his style.
Then, Cain drew a Key Stone from his pocket.
"In that case... I'll show you what it means to witness the true descent of the celestial god!"
"Tyranitar, mega evolve!"
With the force of his spirit, Cain connected the Key Stone with Tyranitar's Mega Stone.
At once, the dense energy of Mega Evolution erupted from the colossus's body.
The man in black opened his eyes wide, shocked at what he saw.
"Is that... the arrival of divine power?" he murmured incredulously.
Cain ignored him.
The energy around Tyranitar was far more intense than what had previously surrounded Alakazam.
The gigantic beast, over three meters tall, was completely enveloped.
The symbol of Mega Evolution appeared in total purity before him.
All the energy fused into his body.
In an alternate space, his imposing figure emerged.
His body was covered by an even sturdier green armor, with longer, sharper spikes.
"TYYRRANNN!"
The roar resounded, deep and savage.
Mega Tyranitar unleashed a triumphant howl toward the sky!
The celestial god had descended!
