But Cain, without losing his composure, pulled a Key Stone from his pocket.
"Gengar, Mega Evolve!"
The Key Stone reacted with the Mega Stone that Gengar carried inside its body, and in an instant, energy burst out, enveloping it completely.
The energy of Mega Evolution came quickly and dissipated just as fast.
Before everyone appeared Mega Gengar.
The smile on its face was even more sinister, with its fists resting on the ground and its eyes locked on Volcanion, showing unusual seriousness.
Gengar was Cain's main Pokémon to face Volcanion.
At level 68, after mega evolving, its simulated strength reached level 72, equivalent to an Initial Elite Four–level Pokémon, greatly narrowing the gap against Volcanion.
Added to the support of Slowking alongside Cain, who, with the fusion of their powers, could unleash greater force in a short time.
With Mega Gengar at the front and Slowking as support, Cain had confidence in being able to fight Volcanion head-on.
"Kekeke!" Gengar laughed, sinking silently underground.
"Tyranitar, make the sand rise!" Cain ordered.
Volcanion's Water/Fire typing was doubly weak against Ground- and Rock-type moves.
"TYRAANNN!"
Tyranitar roared to the sky, and the ground's sand rose, forming a Sandstorm.
Gengar emerged from the shadows, and its eyes gleamed red. It copied Tyranitar's ability: Sand Stream.
Double Sandstorm!
The sand blizzard became even denser.
If someone wasn't adapted, they wouldn't even be able to keep their vision within it.
Florges, wrapped in a yellow glow, transformed its type to Rock.
Although it specialized in Fairy and Grass types, that didn't mean it couldn't adapt to others. Especially after having trained for a long time in the Sandstorm team, it had learned to withstand Ground- and Rock-type environments.
Tyranitar and Aggron advanced together into the storm.
The rest of the Pokémon remained by Cain's side, not yet intervening in the battle.
Slowking's psychic power, after pressing down on Volcanion for a moment, extended to envelop Tyranitar and Aggron, easing their movements.
Volcanion, seeing how the sand drastically reduced its vision, realized it was difficult to use long-range attacks.
Suddenly, it heard the heavy rumble of footsteps: Tyranitar and Aggron, those two colossi, appeared before it.
It immediately fixed them as targets, and its cannons began charging compressed steam.
But before it could release the attack, a shadow slid beside it. A multicolored shining sphere appeared and was thrown at it.
Confuse Ray!
It wasn't really to confuse it, only to interrupt the move Steam Eruption.
Volcanion's concentration was disturbed.

A cloud of steam escaped from its body, a sign that the move hadn't been completed and energy was leaking uncontrollably.
Volcanion detected Gengar, and in an instant its body was engulfed in fire.
Flare Blitz!
Mega Gengar, seeing Volcanion charge, didn't dodge. Two dark balls appeared in its hands, and it hurled them straight ahead.
"TYRAANNN!"
Tyranitar roared and placed its hands on the ground.
The special symbol on its chest shone: Precipice Blades!
BOOOM!
Before Volcanion could reach them, it was intercepted by the technique.
CLANG!
Aggron struck the ground hard, unleashing a wave of the move Earthquake that surged toward Volcanion.
Although Tyranitar's and Aggron's attacks didn't deal great damage, they were tremendously annoying.
BOOM!
BOOM!
As they struck, Gengar's two dark balls also hit squarely.
BZZZZT!
A green shield wrapped around Gengar.
Protect!
It had successfully blocked the counterattack.
Now at close range, Gengar waved its hands, and strange waves surged in its eyes.
Hypnosis!
Caught off guard and focused on it, Volcanion fell under the effect.
Its eyelids grew heavy. It didn't fall completely asleep, but its mind grew fuzzy.
It shook its head, trying to attack again, but at that moment Tyranitar and Aggron had already reached it.

With Slowking's help, Aggron hurled itself like a living projectile, crashing with all its weight.

The collision was brutal, and immediately sharp rock shards crashed against Volcanion.

Volcanion was furious. But with the lingering effects of Gengar's Hypnosis, it couldn't unleash its full power.
The pain forced it to react, but at that moment two psychic waves pierced through the sandstorm and struck it.

Its mind was dazed again.
Then, from the sky descended a ray of moonlight, bathing its body.
"Damn you!!!" Volcanion roared.
It was humiliating!
Too humiliating!
It was many against one!
Each attack, individually, wasn't devastating, but together they were unbearable.
And the worst part: it was only receiving blows, something that went against its explosive nature.
DOOM!
DOOM!
DOOM!
A rumbling surged from its body. The rings on its back began flashing between blue and red, and white smoke escaped through all the cracks of its body.
Seeing that state, Cain's face darkened.
"Just as I thought... is it going to explode so soon?" he reflected.
"Retreat!" he ordered loudly to his Pokémon.
