-------
The battle between Ho-Oh and Giratina was becoming fiercer by the second.
The alternate plane outside the main space had already descended into complete chaos.
Cain exchanged a greeting with Suicune. He didn't really know what to say, and to ease the awkwardness, both opted to remain silent.
He only hoped they could repair all the spatial holes soon.
They had to prevent the erratic energies of the alternate plane from invading this space and destroying it completely.
But when only the last fragments were left to restore, no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't fix them.
The shockwaves caused by the fight between Ho-Oh and Giratina kept striking the spatial barrier without pause, keeping it in a constant cycle of destruction and regeneration.
Moreover, when Giratina had previously broken the space, he had injected a special type of energy into the barrier, drastically reducing its capacity for recovery.
When it came to dominance over spatial energy, Giratina far surpassed Ho-Oh.
Cain stopped, knowing that as long as the fight continued, there was no way to repair anything.
Raikou, Entei, and Suicune were blocking the entrance to the plane, preventing the spatial turbulence from infiltrating.
Cain floated behind them, seated in his sand chair, as his legs still hadn't fully recovered.
He watched the battle between Ho-Oh and Giratina.
He had never witnessed a battle at that level. If it had taken place within the space where he was, it would have been reduced to shreds by now.
No wonder that in the Pokémon world, top-tier legendary Pokémon rarely fought one another.
Even with the stability of the Pokémon world, it couldn't withstand such a conflict.
And Arceus would intervene to prevent it from happening.
Little by little, as they realized that neither could truly harm the other, Ho-Oh began to slow down, and Giratina, finding it no longer fun, also stopped his attacks.
Just as he had said before, Giratina had really only come out for a walk, and upon seeing some Unown in the alternate plane, he started chasing them for fun. After all, with Giratina's power, if he had truly wanted to catch them, the Unown wouldn't have been able to escape.
That's when Cain opened a dimensional rift, and the Unown, drawn by his call, came to his side.
Giratina, curious, also slipped through the rift.
And as soon as he entered, he sensed that Cain had traces of his own energy in his body.
Before he could investigate further, Ho-Oh appeared.
And being both top-tier legendary Pokémon, Giratina, the dragon of the underworld, wasn't going to act like he had to answer to anyone.
Even if he was the intruder, he still behaved with complete arrogance.
If he could go wherever he wanted in the Pokémon world, why not in Ho-Oh's domain?
Then, Giratina quickly located the source of the energy trace in Cain: it was a Pokémon hidden in his shadow.
Gengar.
But before he could examine it more closely, he was interrupted again by Ho-Oh.
That was intolerable!
They had to fight, no matter what!
And if Ho-Oh had the audacity to threaten him... then all the more reason to fight.
Only in the end, it wasn't fun anymore. Ho-Oh had an absurd regeneration ability. Even if Giratina injured him, he healed within seconds.
Boring...
"Giratina, leave now! I can act like nothing ever happened!" Ho-Oh looked at him coldly.
Giratina twisted his mouth without replying.
He looked toward the spatial rift, as if he could see through the barrier, past the three legendary Pokémon, and beyond... to Cain, or rather, the Gengar hidden in his shadow.
"I want to go in," Giratina said calmly.
His tone was so relaxed that Ho-Oh couldn't even contain his rage.
This lunatic!
Every time he saw him, he had that carefree air, like nothing mattered to him. They had just fought fiercely, and he acted like nothing had happened!
"No!" Ho-Oh rejected the idea without hesitation.
If he let him in again, his carefully preserved home could be ruined.
"I want to go in," Giratina repeated.
Just as the golden flames began to surround Ho-Oh again, Giratina spoke once more: "If you don't let me in, I'll go to the Pokémon world and roast your three pets to eat them."
As he spoke, he turned his gaze toward the three legendary Pokémon standing beside the rift.
In that instant, all three felt as if a primitive and brutal beast were devouring them with its stare. Their whole bodies bristled.
Ho-Oh looked at him, mouth agape.
How could such a lunatic exist?
"..."
They stared at each other. Ho-Oh's eyes reflected rage, but Giratina remained utterly calm.
Ten seconds passed like that. Finally, Ho-Oh gave in.
That lunatic was perfectly capable of carrying out his threats. Arceus couldn't do much to him; at most, he'd send him back to the Distortion World.
But that bastard had already made it his home! He came and went as he pleased.
And after every seal, he always ended up returning.
"You can't cause any harm," Ho-Oh finally agreed, reluctantly.
He knew why Giratina wanted to go in. But since Ho-Oh had saved Gengar, he had already taken a side.
Giratina remained silent for three seconds and finally nodded slowly.
Cain, standing next to the rift, watched from a distance the conversation between Ho-Oh and Giratina. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but he felt how the three legendary Pokémon next to him suddenly tensed up.
As if they were terrified.
"What the heck?! Is he coming this way?" Cain exclaimed instinctively.
He immediately backed up with Slowking and regrouped all his Pokémon.
Giratina and Ho-Oh entered the space.
But this time, Giratina completely concealed his presence, causing no damage.
As soon as he entered, he fixed his gaze on Cain... and on the Gengar by his side.
With a black glint in his eyes, he froze them both completely.
Cain couldn't use his psychic powers at all.
He floated slowly until he was in front of Ho-Oh and Giratina.
Compared to the two of them, his figure looked tiny.
Gengar accompanied him. The rest of the Pokémon, completely paralyzed, couldn't move.
"Don't worry," Ho-Oh's voice echoed in the minds of Cain and Gengar.
Hearing that, Cain was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
He was afraid that Ho-Oh had completely given in, sacrificing him just to protect his space.
Giratina scanned them closely.
"This little one has traces of my energy... and seems to have absorbed a part of it. Where did he get it?" he asked in a calm tone.
Inside, Cain was already cursing Phoebe's grandparents over and over again.
They had really gotten him into a mess!
They could have at least told him something!
A little warning, at least!
Now they'd caught him off guard, and his heart wouldn't stop pounding from the fright!
"I found it on Mt. Pyre," Cain answered obediently.
"Mt. Pyre... Was it that old man...? Tsk, he planned that well. But it doesn't matter..." Giratina murmured, as if recalling something.
Then, from his body, a mass of dark gray energy suddenly emerged, quickly merging with Gengar.
Not even Ho-Oh had time to react.
