A walking disaster!

Other Pokémon could spend their entire lives in this place without ever seeing that Pokémon that emerged from the volcano, and yet he had seen it!

But even more terrifying was the Pokémon that had slipped through a spatial rift.

And he saw it again!

After having lived in the Pokémon world for so long, Cain had never witnessed anything so frightening.

At his side, Slowking wore an expression of deep concern.

He could perceive the coordinates with his psychic power, but he couldn't use the move Teleport.

Space had become completely rigid ever since that dark gray being had entered.

The only slight comfort Cain had was that those two terrifying Pokémon didn't seem to be paying attention to him.

Perhaps the Pokémon beside him, Kommo-o, had caught their attention. It was completely motionless, as if even the slightest movement would draw the attention of those two Pokémon clashing in the sky.

Cain could clearly feel two overwhelmingly powerful presences floating around him.

If he moved even a little, they would attack without hesitation.

Cain and his Pokémon were like ants, while Kommo-o was like a big cat—not a lethal threat, but eye-catching enough to be a nuisance.

"SKREEEE!"

The giant red bird soaring through the skies cried out again, proclaiming its sovereignty.

"GRAAARR!"

With a mighty roar, the mist that enveloped the gray and black mass dispersed, revealing the Pokémon hidden within.

And the moment Cain saw it clearly, he didn't hesitate a second to command Slowking to retreat.

It was Giratina, the dragon of the underworld!

And in its Origin Form!

Six ghostly, ribbon-like wings floated behind it, tipped with red ends.

Near the end of its tail were four golden spike-shaped protrusions.

And on its neck, three golden rings floated as if they were claws or grasping tools unique to that form.

Giratina's roar had a chilling, metallic resonance.

Cain also froze in place. He didn't know why, but he felt Giratina had focused part of its attention on him.

Was it because of the Unown on his wrist?

And why was Giratina chasing the Unown in the alternate space?

Why had the Unown fled to this plane?

Many questions swirled in Cain's mind, but there was no time to think about them.

Because the Pokémon confronting Giratina in the sky... wasn't a normal Pokémon either.

It was Ho-Oh!

So in the end, the legendary one Greninja had referred to was Ho-Oh.

Ho-Oh was the Pokémon that inhabited this space!

And how had Team Rocket managed to detect Mew's presence here?

"Giratina! You should stay in your Distortion World! What are you doing here?" Ho-Oh's sharp voice rang out in the sky.

Both Pokémon were using telepathy to communicate, which allowed Cain to understand their words.

Neither Pokémon bothered to hide their psychic presence.

Not only that: both Giratina and Ho-Oh had turned part of their attention toward him.

As a foreigner, Ho-Oh had surely noticed him right away.

"GRAAAAH!"

"I'm just... taking a walk," replied Giratina calmly.

When Cain heard those words, he nearly fell backward.

Brother... if this is just a walk, then your playground is massive. You even managed to make Ho-Oh nervous!

That casual way of speaking, as if everything were trivial, left Ho-Oh momentarily stunned.

And then, furious.

But it couldn't act impulsively.

This was its space, and if they fought here, at least half the area would be destroyed. It didn't know how many innocent Pokémon would perish in the catastrophe.

Besides, Ho-Oh wasn't certain it could defeat Giratina.

The only one powerful enough to subdue it was Arceus.

But in Arceus's eyes, the Pokémon world was all that mattered. This remote corner of space meant nothing to it.

Ho-Oh could only hold back its anger.

"Are you done with your walk? Can you leave now?" it asked with a bitter tone.

Even Cain could feel the resentment hidden in its voice.

"Not yet," said Giratina with the same indifference.

Pffft!

Cain exhaled sharply, unable to keep holding his breath.

Under normal circumstances, someone like him wouldn't attract the attention of such superior beings.

But that accidental interruption made both legendaries look at him at the same time.

"Human... In your body... there is something with my essence," Giratina's voice resonated directly in Cain's mind.

"Human, what is your relationship with Lugia?" followed Ho-Oh, not giving him a moment to breathe.

In theory, a human shouldn't warrant such attention.

But Cain... did have something special in his body. A light in the darkness, impossible to ignore.

Cain was frozen.

Why are they dragging me into this? I was just passing by!

He gave a bitter smile.

"I don't know what essence you're referring to, but yes... I've had an encounter with Lugia."

He couldn't claim anything with certainty. He didn't know what kind of relationship existed between Lugia and Ho-Oh.

If it turned out they didn't get along, saying too much could get him in trouble.

But what Giratina had said confused him even more.

When had he obtained something related to Giratina?

If he had known, he would've run away immediately.

Unlike legendaries like Ho-Oh or Lugia, considered majestic and benevolent, Giratina was completely unpredictable and chaotic—capable of causing disasters without warning.

And the only one who could contain it was Arceus.

Even though the Distortion World was in ruins, it was of the same dimensional level as Arceus's Pokémon world.

"Oh... so here you were," said Giratina, unconcerned with what Cain had said.

A red flash glowed in its eyes.

From Cain's shadow, a figure was slowly pulled out.

Gengar!

"Little one... you have my essence. Where did you get it?" asked Giratina in a deep voice.

"Kekekeke!"

Gengar had a nervous expression.

Ever since Giratina appeared, he had felt something—but hadn't confirmed it until now.

"Gengar!" cried Cain, trying to sort out his thoughts quickly.

His mind raced through all the information about Gengar.

Finally, he remembered the black crystal the two elders had thrown at him on Mt. Pyre.

At first, he thought it was related to the ghostly energy of the Gastly cave on Trial Island.

But if that were the case, Giratina would've focused on Mismagius, not Gengar.

So only one option remained: the black crystal from Mt. Pyre!

"SKREEEE!"

With a cry, Ho-Oh released Gengar from Giratina's control.

Free at last, Gengar immediately returned to Cain's side.

And as he looked at Giratina, his eyes reflected fear and respect.

Both were Ghost-type, but Gengar could feel the overwhelming, terrifying energy radiating from Giratina.
