Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Sinister presence

I spun around, but there was no one there. The whisper seemed to come from all around me, echoing off the walls. Mr. Brown's eyes were wide with fear, and he grabbed my arm, pulling me towards the door.

"Let's get out of here, now," he whispered urgently.

We rushed out of the office, into the bright sunlight. The fresh air seemed to wash away some of the fear that had gripped me. But as we walked away from the building, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched.

Mr. Brown seemed to sense it too. He kept looking over his shoulder, his eyes scanning the crowds. "We need to get you to a safe place," he said, his voice low and serious.

He led me to a small café on the outskirts of town. It was quiet and deserted, except for a single waitress who seemed to be watching us with an intensity that made my skin crawl.

As we sat down, Mr. Brown leaned in close. "Listen, I don't have much time. I've told you things that could put us both in danger. You need to be careful."

I nodded, my heart racing with fear. "What kind of danger?" I asked.

Mr. Brown glanced around the café, his eyes lingering on the waitress. "The kind that can follow you anywhere. You've uncovered too much, and they won't let you stop now."

Suddenly, the waitress appeared at our table, her eyes black as coal. "Can I get you something to drink?" she asked, her voice dripping with malice.

Mr. Brown's eyes locked onto hers, and he mouthed a single word. "Run."
