Lily stretched and stood up from the bed. "I should get going," she said, grabbing her purse from the chair.
Clara frowned. "Why? It's late. You can stay here."
Lily shook her head quickly. "Can't. I've got some things to handle tomorrow."
"What things?" Clara asked, curious.
"Work stuff," Lily said too fast. "I'll explain later. Just… text me, okay?"
Clara wanted to press, but something in Lily's tone made her stop. "Alright," she said quietly. "Be careful."
"I will." Lily smiled, gave her a quick hug, and left.
Lily had been acting strange like she was hiding something but she knew she'd have to wait till Lily told her.
"Great more mysteries to uncover." Clara snorted
When the door closed, silence filled the house again. The kind of silence that made every small sound feel louder.
Clara sighed, changed into a loose cotton shirt and soft shorts, then decided to see what Nathaniel was up to. The hallways were dim, only a few lights on, the mansion calm and still.
