Chapter 181 - Chapter 180: The Snake Comes Out of the Cave

Bai Town.

Inside the military camp, Lingling and Mo Fan were conducting their investigation under their military identities. However, they still hadn't found any breakthrough in the case.

By noon, both were hungry, so they decided to grab something to eat.

As they passed a military tent, a young man suddenly stepped out.

"Ergou, you really don't have the plague—it won't infect me! Why don't you believe me?" the young man said helplessly.

From his tone, it was clear that his companion had driven him out for his own good.

Lingling and Mo Fan exchanged glances, then walked toward the young man who was carrying food.

The young man didn't notice them at first, but when he did, he straightened up nervously. "Hello, officers!"

Mo Fan nodded. Lingling asked calmly, "What did you just say?"

The young man hesitated, unsure whether he should speak.

"Go on," Mo Fan said, his tone slow but firm.

"I said, that's not the plague—it's just rat bites," the young man finally replied.

"You're sure?" Mo Fan asked.

"I'm sure. I had the same symptoms before," he said confidently.

"What's your name?"

"Wang Xiaoyun."

"Then how did you treat those symptoms?" Mo Fan pressed.

"I just applied some Eagle Red Grass back then, and it got better," Wang Xiaoyun answered.

"Eagle Red Grass?" Lingling repeated. She and Mo Fan exchanged a look. The young man didn't seem to be lying.

"Do you know where it grows?" Lingling asked.

"I do. You can find Eagle Red Grass in Xiling," Wang Xiaoyun said.

"But Xiling is full of White Demon Eagles now. It's extremely dangerous!"

"As long as we know where to find it, we'll manage," Lingling said decisively. She immediately sent a message to Song Jie.

At that moment, Song Jie had just arrived in Bai Town and received her message.

He exhaled in relief. "Good thing I don't have to make a move myself."

Soon after, the four of them met up and began discussing how to obtain the Eagle Red Grass.

"Wang Xiaoyun, since you know the location, you'll go with Song Jie to pick it," Lingling said.

"No problem!" Wang Xiaoyun nodded firmly. They trusted him, and he wanted to prove he was telling the truth—especially since people were still suffering. He couldn't just stand by.

Just then, Song Jie received a message from Tang Yue.

He opened it.

Tang Yue: Song Jie, they're begging me to summon the big guy. I don't know what to do right now...

Song Jie frowned slightly. He knew Tang Yue must be feeling conflicted.

[Tang Yue: They said they wouldn't hurt the big guy, so I wanted to ask for your opinion...]

[Song Jie: So obedient. I'll reward you when I get back.]

Tang Yue sat in a lounge, her cheeks flushing slightly when she read his reply.

[Tang Yue: I don't have much time, be serious.]

[Song Jie: We've got things handled here. I'll have Lingling and Mo Fan come over later.]

[Tang Yue: Okay!]

When she saw his response, Tang Yue finally breathed a sigh of relief. Song Jie always gave her a sense of calm reassurance.

Song Jie pocketed his phone and turned to Lingling. "Any other clues?"

Lingling nodded. Since everyone present was trustworthy, she spoke openly. "My sister suspects that someone's manipulating all this from behind the scenes."

"Who?" Mo Fan and Wang Xiaoyun both looked shocked.

"We're not certain yet," Lingling said. They still didn't have enough evidence to identify the culprit.

"Lingling, I think we can take a risk and test something," Song Jie suggested.

"Huh?" Lingling looked startled, but after hearing his plan, she frowned deeply.

"No! That's too dangerous!" she immediately objected.

"With Chief Judge Tang, Councilman Zhu Meng, and others present, do you really think anyone could lay a hand on me?" Song Jie said calmly.

Lingling hesitated. When he put it that way, it did make sense.

Song Jie smiled. "Besides, I've got a trump card of my own. Don't worry about me."

After some thought, Lingling finally nodded in agreement.

"Good. Pass this message along. Once it's out, some people will definitely surface," Song Jie said.

Lingling nodded, handed communication devices to both Mo Fan and Wang Xiaoyun, then took Mo Fan to meet Tang Yue.

"Wang Xiaoyun, later I'll need your Gray Eagle to help with a little performance," Song Jie said with a grin.

Although confused, Wang Xiaoyun still nodded obediently.

In the Conference Room

After Tang Yue returned, Zhu Meng, Councilman Luo Mian, and the others turned to her immediately.

"Tang Yue, this concerns the people of Lin'an and those suffering from illness. I hope you understand the gravity of this situation," Zhu Meng said sincerely.

Tang Yue was about to respond when Leng Qing, standing beside her, spoke up.

"I have evidence to prove that the snake wasn't responsible."

The room fell silent.

"Are you certain?" Zhu Meng pressed, frowning.

Leng Qing nodded slightly. "You'll hear the truth when they arrive."

As if on cue, Lingling and Mo Fan entered the room and relayed everything that had happened.

When they finished, Councilman Luo Mian's brows furrowed, his expression darkening.

"Song Jie and Wang Xiaoyun have already gone to Xiling. It won't be long before they bring back the Eagle Red Grass," Lingling said, reassuring everyone.

Just then, someone burst through the door, addressing Luo Mian directly.

"Councilman Luo Mian! There's an urgent situation that requires your immediate attention!"

Everyone turned to look at Luo Mian.

He stood up. "Xiling is full of White Demon Eagles. How will they get through? You all discuss this. I have something to attend to."

With that, he turned and left the conference room.

No one thought much of it—except Lingling, whose eyes flashed with understanding.

Outside, Luo Mian's expression turned grim. The man who had entered moments earlier was someone he had planted to help him make an excuse to leave.

His plan had been perfect… yet somehow, that cunning young girl had seen through him.

If anyone was going to handle this situation, it would be him personally. He wasn't about to let others claim the credit.

Meanwhile, Song Jie and Wang Xiaoyun had already reached Xiling.

They successfully gathered the Eagle Red Grass—but their movements immediately drew the attention of the White Demon Eagles.

"Go!!" Song Jie shouted, pulling Wang Xiaoyun onto the back of the Gray Eagle.

The Summoned Beast spread its wings and soared into the sky, but dozens of White Demon Eagles were already diving toward them in pursuit.

Seeing the predators close in, Song Jie completed his Star Track and unleashed a powerful spell.

"Radiance!"

A burst of blinding light exploded outward.

Boom!

Several White Demon Eagles were instantly torn apart, turning into a mist of blood that sprayed across the sky.

Wang Xiaoyun gaped in shock. He had never imagined Song Jie was this powerful.

Blood spattered across them and the Gray Eagle as they fought through the sky.

But the noise had drawn even more White Demon Eagles, their shrieks echoing as they dived from above—hundreds of them descending like a storm of wings and talons!
