Chapter 99 - Chapter 098: We Were All Deceived

"I didn't expect it to end in such a dramatic way."

Seeing that the matter had come to an end, Tenzo quietly retreated with Itsuki, sighing softly.

Tasks that aren't determined by a ninja's own will are always the most troublesome.

Fate is entirely controlled by others, leaving one with power but no way to use it.

"No matter what, Team 7 gained valuable mission experience this time. That will benefit them greatly in the future."

Itsuki smiled, then added, "Teacher Tenzo, I'll keep an eye on Zabuza and Gato to make sure they don't cause more trouble. I'll leave the rest here to you."

Tenzo nodded. It made sense—right now was when everyone was most relaxed.

If they weren't vigilant and got ambushed again, it could be even more dangerous than before.

Although the chance was small, they still had to remain on guard.

"Go," Tenzo said with a smile. "Compared to Naruto and the others, I'm more curious about your future, Itsuki."

He felt that Itsuki always noticed the gaps he himself overlooked.

But in truth, Itsuki just wanted to tie up loose ends.

[Haruno Sakura: Ahhh! Our mission failed, but at least Sasuke is okay. I was so scared.]

[Tenten: I never thought a simple C-rank mission would turn into this.]

[Hyuga Hinata: If our team had taken this mission, I feel like we might have been in real danger…]

[Yamanaka Ino: Kakashi-sensei is amazing! He actually defeated Zabuza. Too bad Itsuki didn't get the chance to show off this time.]

[Haruno Sakura: Doesn't anyone care about me? Sasuke-kun almost died!]

[Yamanaka Ino: Didn't you just take down two random thugs? You were basically a bystander the whole time. What do you want credit for? And Sasuke—he didn't die, did he?]

[Haruno Sakura: …]

[Tsunade: That yellow-haired brat doesn't act anything like that person's kid. Just like Zabuza asked—I'm confused too. How the hell did he graduate from the Academy? Did the old man give him a backdoor pass?]

[Anko Mitarashi: From what I know, Naruto actually failed the graduation exam. I don't know what happened afterward, but the Third Hokage personally approved him to pass.]

[Tsunade: So he really did get in through the backdoor?]

[Anko Mitarashi: Can't say for sure.]

[Haruno Sakura: Wait…"that person's kid"? Are you talking about Naruto's parents?]

[Tsunade: Quit asking questions, brat. Instead of gossiping, work on your combat skills.]

[Haruno Sakura: …]

[Anko Mitarashi: @Tsunade Tsunade-sama, the Third Hokage sent someone to find us.]

[Tsunade: Why are you panicking? Just follow what I told you. He won't do anything to you.]

[Anko Mitarashi: But I betrayed Kurenai and Yugao! They're really pissed at me now. Tsunade-sama, you need to comfort my poor wounded heart! ToT]

[Tsunade: I'll give you a beauty and skincare recipe later.]

[Anko Mitarashi: I love you, Tsunade-sama!]

[Yamanaka Ino: Eh?! I want it too!]

[Tenten: Me too!]

[Haruno Sakura: Don't leave me out!]

[Karin: ((⊙o⊙))]

[Hyuga Hinata: I-I'd like it as well…]

[Tsunade: Tch. Go away, you little kids. Why are you even joining in? Wait until your hair grows back before asking.]

[Anko Mitarashi: Pfft—!]

Konoha – Hokage's Office

Anko Mitarashi, Kurenai Yuhi, and Yugao Uzuki stood side by side, heads lowered obediently.

They were all young, beautiful kunoichi in their prime, each with a different charm. Normally, the Third Hokage might have let his thoughts wander.

But right now, he had a splitting headache.

"Explain. What exactly happened?" The Third Hokage rubbed his forehead.

It had taken him a lot of effort to confirm which senior Konoha ninjas Danzo had mentioned.

Kurenai and Yugao quickly stepped back, pushing Anko forward.

Anko twitched her lips but spoke honestly: "This has nothing to do with us, Lord Third. We were forced!"

Kurenai and Yugao nodded repeatedly, claiming they had no prior knowledge.

"Tsunade, huh? Tell me everything, or else it'll be hard for me to decide how to handle this." The Hokage already had his own suspicions.

No one could handle this matter cleanly—in the end, he'd probably just have to smooth things over.

"Lord Third!" Anko's eyes reddened as she complained, "You don't know how terrifying Tsunade-sama's fist is. One punch could probably level a mountain! How could I disobey her?

"She told me to bring Danzo-sama to her. Compared to getting punched, of course I obeyed! Anyone would've done the same in my shoes!"

The Hokage turned his gaze to Kurenai and Yugao.

"We were tricked! We didn't know anything beforehand!" they answered together.

Yugao quickly pointed at Kurenai. "She asked me to help catch someone, but didn't tell me who."

Kurenai pointed right back at Anko. "Anko told me a spy who stole village documents would be passing through, and asked us to cast a barrier to trap him. I had no idea it would be Danzo-sama!"

The three kunoichi threw blame back and forth. They were even better at shirking responsibility than the so-called "Konoha F4."

The Hokage rubbed his forehead again and sighed. "So, Anko—you're the only one who saw Tsunade directly? When did she return? Where is she now?"

"I swear I'm innocent!" Anko protested. "I was patrolling outside the village when Tsunade-sama suddenly appeared in disguise and threatened me. Then she took Shizune with her, and I've been confused ever since."

"Do you know why she attacked Danzo?" the Hokage pressed. That at least sounded like something Tsunade would do.

"It… might be because of Itsuki?" Anko rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "Before threatening me, Tsunade-sama asked about Itsuki. She seemed to already know he could use Wood Release."

Kurenai had personally seen Itsuki use Wood Release before, and as an ANBU under the Hokage, Yugao had also heard rumors.

So neither woman looked surprised.

"Is that really it…?" The Third Hokage let out another sigh.

"One last question. Did Tsunade attack Danzo alone? Did you see it yourselves? Could it have been an impersonator? Describe everything clearly."

The kunoichi didn't know why he asked, but they explained anyway.

They said Tsunade acted completely on her own.

As soon as she appeared, she grabbed Danzo and beat the hell out of him.

She chased him so relentlessly that he had no escape.

Only when Root operatives managed to break the barrier did they rescue Danzo.

Otherwise, he might have died at Tsunade's hands.

At least, that's how it looked to them.

In truth, Danzo simply hadn't wanted to reveal his secret jutsu. If his life was truly at risk, he wouldn't have hesitated.

"Forget it. You're dismissed. Go apologize to Danzo later. This wasn't your fault, so I won't pursue it—but don't let it happen again." The Hokage waved them away, exhausted.

Given his reputation as a benevolent leader, he couldn't bring himself to punish them.

Tsunade couldn't be found for now, so he'd have to placate Danzo instead.

Maybe even give him some benefits to calm him down.

But… Tsunade had hemophobia, didn't she? Had she somehow overcome it?
