Chapter 1 - Let The Boy Shine Like A Sword

Abel replied: "God, who brought us into the world, will avenge me. He will require my blood at thine hand if thou should slay me. God is the Judge, who will visit their wicked deeds upon the wicked and their evil deeds upon the evil."

On an island, Exorcists exist; some have a gift—a mark on the back of their right hand. There are many stories of these marks; one is that god chooses you the moment you are born to bear such immense power. But the actual story is a bit different.

There once were two brothers, Abel and Kane, sons of Adam and Eve, two of the first humans, both gifted by god with a mark and a symbol in their hands. One was the power to control blood by touching other humans; the other was the power to control water.

Kane was evil, and he always felt less than Abel because his parents always praised Abel for his good deeds and how he used his powers; he could purify water and remove the water from the mud, and the water would still be drinkable.

On the other hand, Kane would kill animals for no reason and rob people by making them hand in their valuables; with blood manipulation, he could make people do whatever he wanted to; he was feared by his sisters and other humans, except for one person, Abel. This enraged Kane. He wanted Able to be afraid, he wanted to feel in control. Hence, he decided to do something; while Abel was not looking, Kane struck Abel on the back of the head with a rock and then tossed Abel's body into the ocean. Abel survived. He was washed ashore on an island without many things, but this felt right. He thought he was destined to make this island his home.

He decided to take someone else to this island; he had two twin sisters, one similar to Kane and the other resembling Abel himself. Azura was Kain's twin, but they were the only ones with no mark on the back of their hands.

He asked her to become his wife and create a place where everyone could smile without fear of death; she agreed, leaving the life she knew and traveling to this lonely island.

Some people say that their souls ascended to heaven and left their bodies to turn into rocks; others say that Kane killed Abel and took back Azura.

It's still being determined whether any of these stories are correct, but on the island, they made an unnamed chapel and library where two statues of a man and a woman are sitting down, looking at where the sunset should be.

In this library, some books are older than any elder on the island, and they even recall that those books are older than they are.

There's another story in this day and age a boy from this same island, a direct descendant of Abel and Kane, a direct descendant of the fathers of humanity; they call him Noah. He is an intelligent boy, too bright to the point where people confuse this with cockiness. This kid has always been told that he looks like Abel with the exact slim figure, blue eyes, and black hair.

This kid was born from a mother's bloodline of Abel, who lives on the island, and a father's bloodline of Kain, whose parents came to the island by accident. Their boat sank, and the only two survivors were a man and his wife. The island's people did not know there was someone other than them in the world. They did not trust these people but tried not to make that much fuss about it.

A year later, a baby was born, a son of "the people from the outside", or that is how people name them, and 20 years later this other baby, was born, a mix of Abel and Cain. Noah Port was born with two marks on the back of his hand. 血水, a translation from one of the books in the library, said that it meant "blood water," but they had to look for each symbol. By the color of his eyes, the elder thought he was the reincarnation of Abel, but they said that Abel had the mark 水, which means water; there was no second symbol.

They dismissed the possibility of Noah being the reincarnation of Able.

The child started to see things a few months after being born and could never stop crying until someday he was taken to the chapel. He was baptized by the only exorcist that existed on that island.

The exorcist looked at the boy in the eyes and smiled, then he looked at the parents and said, "Your child is a very special boy; he sees beyond the light of God, he sees what real monsters are, your son has never sinned, but he has been blessed or cursed, to see what is bad, he sees curses that are invincible to a normal person's eyes." the pupil of his eyes were red instead of black.

This was called the eye of the dead captain, where you can see what a normal human can't see, which is the realm of the dead.

The man gave the boy a bible for exorcists containing demonology, a cross made of gold, and exorcist tools, heavenly weapons created to hunt down curses.

"Let me train him. I might not have the mark of God, but I will teach him to survive," the man said and finished the baptism. His grandparents were there, and later, they talked to the boy's father.

When they were at home, the grandparents pulled their son aside. "We know what it is, son." The boy's grandparents said, "But where we come from, the women are the ones with that mark; no male has inherited such a mark. They call them knights. They say that they are able to see hell itself. If your son becomes an exorcist, he will surely die a painful death. We just want what is best for the boy, but it is up to you and your wife, and obviously it will be his decision," the grandparents said.

The man looked at his son in his wife's hands, holding the bible with love and tenderness.

"I believe that my son will need this training one day; when he turns 8, I will ask my boy a question: do you enjoy being an exorcist? If he doesn't like it, he can quit at any time. He is free now and will always be free," the man said, cherishing his son's face.

Years and years passed, and it was the boy's 8th birthday, and with this birthday, Noah's first time in real danger. At first, he saw an exorcism, and then he saw his teacher kill curses roaming the island. There were natural ways to defend against curses, like plants, and if you rub them on your skin, the smell they leave repels the energy that creates curses.

You can make tea with the leaves, giving you the same effect.

Combine other herbs, and you will have a weapon to kill low-level curses. Since this was an island, there was no necessity for the boy's ability until one day, while the teacher was hunting three low-level curses, the boy got separated from the teacher in the small forest that was close to the village. The boy was walking through the forest. He was hearing voices.

The voice of his mother was heard, "My son… why is he this way? He is not similar to other kids. He is weird. He scares me knowing he someday can become a monster. He is just too weird to love." The kid heard this. This was not his mom the person who says that she is sorry when the boy comes back with cuts and bruises, the person who holds him the tightest when he comes back scaled, shaking of the things he sees.

Then the boy heard his dad: "I hope he dies one day, so I won't have to take care of him; I hate him so much, I can't even stand to look at him. It makes me sick to my stomach," the voice said, it was the voice of his father for sure. Still, his father always, when Noah was back from training, his father brought him his favorite fruit, a dago fruit, and sat next to him to eat as he laughed with his son; he asked him about his day and patted his head, always smiling. Is this what they actually feel? Noah looked around, a child with many questions, asking himself if his parents loved him.

Then he heard a third voice, his grandfather's voice, "A child marked by the devil. That child will never live for long. He will have a painful death! You all need to kill him before he becomes an unstoppable monster!" Noah's eyes started watering. His family did not love him; it was all a lie. Even his father thought he was a nuisance. Why was he fighting so much, and why was he training? Why was he giving up his childhood for a family that never loved him? The happy memories of his family smiling and laughing were disappearing in a dark fog where only a bright smile stood almost hidden by the fog.

"That is right, why are you trying so hard to impress them?" a new voice, raspier and more… evil said, "Why so much effort? You don't need a family; you are strong, way stronger than any human on this island, you can kill everyone because that is what you were made for. You were made to be a monster." A smile in the dark appeared, then eyes that looked like lizards opened dark yellow, and white from ear to ear smile.

"Join me, be me, I'll be you, I'll show you what you can do. Just let go of your life," the thing said as the thing came out into the moon's light. The thing was black, as if burnt to a crisp, with rotting flesh falling as he walked like a weird dog, like if he didn't know how to act like one. The only visible thing was a smile of fangs with no lips to cover it, but what was bizarre was that the eyes were where the mouth was supposed to be.

"What do you think? You are hurt, you are sad, and you feel lonely. I can remove those emotions. You can be happy… alone," the thing said, looking at Noah. It looked like the smile grew more extensive, and the thing kept speaking.

Noah fell and landed on his back; he grabbed his head and started crying. The thing got closer to Noah, and he said, "Haha, yeah! Yeah, like that! Fall into despair and satiate my hunger with your suffering! YOU INSIGNIFICANT RAT! AHAHAHAHA!"

Noah remembered something important that made Noah recover his sanity: "Baby, whenever you feel sad, remember that no matter where you are or where you decide to go, we will be happy that you made that decision, and if one day we leave this planet, our souls will be around the man you will decide to become. Because you are free, and you always will be, and that is what makes you special," his father said, patting his head while his mother was sticking his wounds.

Then his mom smiled and held the hand she was patching. "Your father is right. It doesn't matter if you hate us for not giving you a normal childhood. We will always… love you," Noah remembered those words. He started to see everything clear now no fog to cloud his memories. Why was he doubting that his family hated him? They are the ones that smile at him, the ones who hug him, the ones who show their love.

Noah got up and wiped his tears. "What am I doing? Where is that smart-ass that many people have called me? Where are the memories of my parents smiling at me?… No… is you!" Noah said, pointing at the curse, "This is your tick to possess a human body; you use what is not real against us!"

"Uoh, Hoho. But something is true… You are a monster; you were created to be a weapon; I'M RIGHT, YOU LITTLE SHIT!" it said, pointing back at Noah.

Jaune started running towards the curse; he ready his tiny fist to punch it. The thing smiled. "I don't even know what my ability is, but I will kill you no matter what, because no one makes me hate my parents!" Noah said as he was running.

When the punch made contact with one of the legs of the curse, nothing happened, and the curse started laughing. "Well, isn't that unfortunate? I tell you what, kid, you are brave." The curse lifted his other leg and started swinging it as he said, "But you can't kill me!"

As the leg made contact with Noah's left arm, a wall of red water appeared; in an instant, it became extremely hard red ice. And as the curse touches it, it starts burning its skin. What people call frostbite. The beast screeched in pain. Stepping backward, Noah felt lightheaded, but he looked at his hand, and a bubble of red water started to come out from what can be assumed to be Noah's pores; he felt cold, too cold. He was looking for warmth and air; the moment he exhaled, steam came out white as snow, and his eyes shined like the moon itself in the night sky.

"Who are you?! What are you?!" Finally, the smiling curse stopped smiling, and now he had horror in its eyes.

"Ha, look at you," Noah said, hugging himself and searching for warmth, but he still pointed toward the curse and smiled. "IS THE LITTLE RAT SCARED?!" Noah said with a smile as he heard his teacher's steps getting closer.

A cross made of gold pierced through the curse's heart, killing it instantly.

Noah finally passed out. The danger was gone, and he could finally rest; as he fell to the ground, his teacher caught him and noticed he was freezing. He took out his jacket made of dear skin; as he wrapped Noah in the jacket, he noticed the tower of red ice that was at least 9 feet in the middle of the area, but he didn't look too much and started running with Noah on his back.

He ran as fast as he could, and as he was running, he was thinking about the red ice. 'Was that blood, was that Noah's blood? Is that why Noah is so cold?… No, his blood… is cold; his body is running cold blood through his system.' the exorcist got to Noah's house and desperately knocked on the door.

A few minutes later, Noah's mother opened the door as fast as she could and smiled. "Noah, how was training." She said before her smile faded, and her eyes were horrified. "Dear lord, Jaune! Jaune, please, come quick."

"We need to start a fire fast; we need blankets," Noah's teacher said.

The father ran down the stairs and overheard their conversation. He went straight for wood, rocks and some blankets and started a fire in the chimney and put the stones close to the fire, and when they were hot, he put them like a bed and some blankets and then wrapped Noah in them. He was breathing heavily, but he was getting better.

Obviously, Noah's teacher was yelled at by Noah's mom, but she calmed down a few minutes later. Noah opened his eyes by that point, "Dad." Noah said his mom and dad ran as fast as they could toward Noah, and his mom hugged him. "Dad, mom, do you hate me?" Noah said, looking at the fire. He didn't want to look at them.

His Dad sat close to the fire next to him and smiled. "From what I heard, you showed that curse who is boss, that is great. I'm so proud of you."

"That is not what I ask."

His mom stopped hugging him, sat next to his dad, and held his dad's arm. I heard you learned a little about your ability, and I'm so proud of you." She said with a smile as she looked at Noah's dad.

"That is not what I ask!"

"Anyone has doubts about themselves; you are 8, the time when you start noticing your doubts, but when you grow older, the only thing you will remember is that your parents were always proud of you," Noah's father said.

"All the things curses say are doubts that you have, but you would rather bury them until you are reminded of them. That is how a curse controls a human's body," Noah's teacher said sipping some hot tea.

Noah's mom slapped him on the back of his head. "That tea is for my son, you old fool," she said, and she looked at Noah again.

"But always remember, we are so proud of you, baby, and we will always be. Do you know what that means, Noah?" Noah's mother asked.

"Yeah, yeah, I know what that means, ma," Noah said as he buried himself in the blankets.

A few weeks pass, and Noah went to his grandparents' house as usual. Sometimes, he visited his grandparents after being in the library for so long. He sometimes stays with them; he loves his grandparents but never met his other grandparents from his mother's part of the family. Sometimes, his mother talks about them, and that they died protecting her, and they left her alone when she was still too young; they were exorcists before my teacher. He learned from them, so in a way, he still feels that they are a part of his life.

One day, when Noah visited his grandparents, they told him about a different world; it was a horrible world where there were battles from left to right, conflicts that sparkled from minor inconveniences. The last thing that Noah's grandparents heard before getting into the boat that brought them here was that there were rumors of a 2nd world war where they were going to start using the powers that the symbols provided them. "But there is also beauty in this place, views of magnificent animals, there are this places called dungeons, they are all field with monsters. And if you are lucky, you can find a beautiful woman that is good to you… I was truly a lucky man."

"Anyway, there are good and bad things; in this place, many divisions and groups are funded by the government. It was formed to exterminate curses; there are 6 in total. The Lionhearts, The Lostshadows, The Solarflears, The Firewalkers, The Soulsekers, and The Hellhounds, the last one is feared amongst all the other exorcists' divisions. To be the most effective and powerful division, to get into these divisions. First, you have to complete this test that gives you a spot to be chosen by a division.

For months and months, Noah did not use his ability often because it hurt him; he learned that he could walk on water… well, more like he could freeze the water beneath him. This did not hurt him; he could also cover himself in this red water and discovered that he could swim faster than any human by entering the river or the ocean.

But using it for combat makes him freeze, and he faints after using it for seconds. But he also discovers that he creates this water that tasted like blood, but he is not using his body water or his own blood, he just makes it somehow.

Since he could not use his combat ability, he started using holy tools to kill curses. He trained harder than anyone, studied more than necessary, and became skilled at killing low-lever curses. It was indeed a happy life.

Or was it...
