"Can I roll an unintentional intimidation?", Bucky asks Melvin with an idea in mind.
"What exactly do you want to do?", Melvin asks, wanting to understand what Bucky wants to do before deciding whether he will allow it to happen or not.
"I want to apologize to this lady, but my face and size by themselves would be terrifying to her", Bucky says, explaining what he wanted to happen.
"Alright, roll an intimidation with disadvantage because it's not your intention to scare the lady", Melvin says, asking Bucky to make a roll to see whether or not he would manage to do what he wanted.
Rolling 2d20 and taking the lower number, Bucky curses as he checks his sheet and sees that adding everything up, he got a seven on the roll, which means he most likely failed, "Hmm... shit, four plus three, seven."
"She's very angry about the destruction you caused; she's most likely the owner of the establishment, or works there, so it's not going to be your intimidating size or face that will make her back down. And besides those factors, it's also quite evident that she sees you as an inferior being", Melvin says, narrating Bucky's failure.
"Guys, this woman is racist, isn't she?", Mandy asks suddenly, wanting to know if she was the only one who noticed it.
"Yes, and I bet now she's going to have even more fuel to hate people who are different from her", Jimmy replies, giving his opinion on the situation.
Interpreting Tristan, Bucky apologizes to the NPC that Melvin was personifying, "Ahhh, I'm sorry, miss! It was an accident, I swear!"
"Hmph, figures it had to be from an inferior and impure race like yours! Was it that tiny brain of yours that had the idea of entering a store that your grotesque body doesn't even fit in?", Melvin says, interpreting the café owner as the racist that she is.
Suddenly, Beatrice, interpreting Agnes, steps in, wanting to solve the problem, "Excuse me, we apologize for the inconvenience! We will pay for the repairs if that's what worries you! But can you let my companion pass now? We're on our way to a meeting!"
Completely ignoring what Beatrice said, Melvin comments in a mocking tone, making this character increasingly hateful, "Ohh, look what we have here, an old forest whore, you know, my family had a pup of your species as a pet when I was a child!"
"GM, my normally indifferent expression turns cold, and I look at her without saying anything", Beatrice says, informing what her character does in response to that statement.
Using the fact that Beatrice had remained silent, Melvin first narrates how the environment around them is reacting to the situation before then provoking her character with questions that are at least hateful, "You two notice that all the customers around are staring at the scene, somewhat stunned and horrified by the way this lady is handling the whole situation: Ohh, did the cat eat your tongue? Are you busy with a dick in your mouth so you won't answer me? Come on, speak, you old slut, didn't you say you were going to compensate me for the damage this worm caused to the establishment?"
Frowning, Bucky says while gesturing indignantly at Melvin, making Tristan defend Agnes, "Wow, ma'am! I was the one who broke the establishment. You don't need to speak to my friend like that."
"What's going on here?", Melvin asks suddenly, with an intensity different from the NPC he had been portraying a second ago, "Before this woman could answer you, Tristan! A male voice cuts her off! And as you look to the side, you both see a man in a suit whom you recognize as the supervisor you had come to meet."
"GM, do we know his name?", Beatrice asks Melvin, wanting to know if they had that information.
Melvin then turns to Beatrice and answers her question, "No, but you guys know that everyone from the Ordo Vitae, especially the agents, uses the codename 'Mr. Nobody'"
Explaining what his character does, Bucky says while raising his hands in surrender, "I look at the damage I caused before turning my attention back to the supervisor and saying: Mr. Nobody! I swear it was an accident."
"He looks at the two of you briefly and says: You were the last to arrive! And you're late", Melvin says, interpreting Mr. Nobody.
"We apologize for the delay, sir!", Beatrice says in an apologetic tone. Agnes was proper, so she really was feeling bad about being late.
"Letting out a sigh, Mr. Nobody says: It's fine, go to the outside area, the rest of the group is waiting there!", Melvin says in a serious tone before narrating "He then turns to the woman, takes a large wad of cash from the pocket of his blazer, and says while handing it to her: And you, here! For the damage, and I apologize for them.
The woman looks at the money, raises her gaze to Mr. Nobody, and, letting out a scoff of scorn, she snatches the wad of cash from his hand while mocking: So you're the owner of these two pieces of filth, huh? You should put a leash on them and train them better.
Upon hearing this, Mr. Nobody says in a calm tone before turning and beginning to walk back toward the outside area of the café: You clearly aren't from here! Magnolia abolished slavery over a hundred years ago. I strongly recommend that you stop externalizing your prejudices; it could end up killing you one day.
Seeing that Mr. Nobody intended to remain in her café, the woman says with a frown: Hey, who said you all can stay in my establishment? Get out of here before I call the city guard.
Then, stopping halfway, Mr. Nobody turns slightly and says before resuming his walk: Don't worry, we won't stay for long! But feel free to call the city guard; the Sheriff is a dwarf, and I'm sure he'll be quite interested in hearing about your prejudices.
The woman then falls silent with a displeased scowl on her face. Well, Mr. Nobody walks past you and heads toward the outside area of the café. What do you guys want to do?"
"I'll follow him", Beatrice says, not wanting to be left behind.
"Me too", Bucky says, following suit.
Continuing the narration, Melvin turns to the rest of the group and asks everyone except Jimmy to finally introduce their characters, "Alright, you two then follow Mr. Nobody to the outside area, with Tristan having to walk crouched and hunched over so he doesn't break anything, which ends up being a bit slow, but you reach the place without any problems.
And as the open air embraces you once again, a scene somewhat out of place with the surrounding environment catches both of your attention: a group of five individuals sitting at one of the tables. And now I'm going to ask Algie, Pete, Mandy, Christy, and Angie to describe their characters."
"Great, now I'm the last one!", Jimmy comments suddenly with an amused huff.
Hearing that, Pete comments, speculating good-humoredly, "Or maybe you're the attraction of the night."
Deciding to tease his friend, Jimmy says, pretending he didn't understand what Pete meant, "Dude, what are you talking about? It's daytime, it must be around 09:00 AM."
"Ha ha, very funny", Pete says, rolling his eyes.
As soon as the conversations stop, Algie begins to describe his character and his traits, "Well, my character's name is Robert Benson, and he's a duck, a humanoid duck to be more specific. He has white feathers, a yellow beak, and is chewing on a piece of straw like the good country bumpkin that he is.
He's a swordsman and has already killed a demon with the help of Pete's character, a feat he brags about whenever he has the opportunity.
He's wearing metal chainmail armor with plate pauldrons, and he's got some yellow cloth over everything as well.
Beside him, there is a Templar sword leaning against the table where everyone is sitting, and on top of it, there is a metal helmet custom-made to fit his head."
Seeing that no one was taking the initiative to go next, Pete steps forward and begins to describe his character, "I'm next then! My character's name is Bob, and he's a Goblin! Coming straight from the great Goblin nation, the den of the most advanced minds and technologies in the world, he's a marksman, basically a heavily tuned archer because he uses firearms.
He's green and short. He's wearing a black uniform with a leather chest piece over it, and on his head, there is one of those World War II soldier helmets with a pair of aviator goggles resting on his forehead.
And finally, beside him, there's a large and completely modified rifle leaning against the table where everyone is sitting."
As soon as Pete finishes his description, Mandy looks at everyone before asking to make sure, "Right, so I just say what my character is like, right?"
"That's right", Melvin replies with a nod.
Mandy then begins to describe her character, though not with as many details as her friends did, "Okay, my character's name is Alice, she's human, she's a rogue, a professional thief, and she got involved in the middle of all this because she broke into a mansion in the middle of the night intending to carry out a robbery, but everything went wrong and she ended up running into the family of the house performing a demonic ritual."
"And what does Alice look like?", Melvin asks when he realizes that Mandy forgot to describe her character's appearance.
"I guess she looks like me, just older", Mandy replies, deciding it would be easier to make her character look like her than to rack her brain inventing an entirely new appearance.
"We're following the order Melvin said, right?", Christy asks, wanting to know if she was supposed to speak next.
"I think so!", Mandy replies, shrugging.
With the confirmation she wanted, Christy begins to describe her character in an excited manner, "So I'm next, cool! My character's name is Camila. She's a redhead and basically has my appearance, but older, just like Mandy's character.
She's a forest mage… druid, that's the name! And in the past, she was a witch who was part of one of those demonic cults that Melvin is talking about all the time, but she switched sides and left that life behind when she realized the shit her cult was trying to do."
Finally reaching her turn, Angie begins to describe her character, only to be interrupted by Melvin, "And last, there's me! My character's name is Milena, and she's a medical mage. Melvin had told me that the group didn't have a 'pure support' yet, whatever that means, so I decided to take that role…"
"She's a cleric", Melvin says, just to make it clear.
"Right, I have to talk about her backstory, right? Well, Milena had just been assigned to work at a small church in a remote little town as the only doctor there. But she ended up coming across a demonic horror happening right beneath a place that was supposed to be holy and sacred at first.
The priests of the little church, which was also the only orphanage in town, were sacrificing little children in demonic rituals", Angie then continues her description, telling a bit of her character's backstory.
"And what does she look like?", Melvin asks, reminding her to describe her character's appearance.
"She looks like me, just older too", Angie replies, following the same pattern as her friends. She simply didn't have enough creativity to imagine an appearance for her character that wasn't her own.
With that last statement, you must be wondering: so where did the backstories of Mandy's, Christy's, and Angie's characters come from? The answer is actually simple: Melvin created them, including Pete's, which blends with the story Algie invented.
With the introductions properly finished, Melvin continues his narration, "Alright, everyone's properly introduced! Now, Agnes and Tristan, the two of you see this group of five distinct individuals sitting at that table. Mr. Nobody is walking toward them. What do you do?"
"We follow him to the table", Beatrice says after briefly looking at Bucky, seeking confirmation from him.
"That's right", Bucky agrees. There wasn't much else to do besides that.
