---

The following day, a Thursday, began with somewhat shocking news. Around the second class of the day, an announcement played over the school's loudspeakers: Mr. Burton had been attacked during a walk in the park the previous night.

The teacher was, at the moment, hospitalized and would remain away from his duties for quite some time.

The police, meanwhile, were investigating; the suspicion was that Mr. Burton's debts, stemming from loans taken from loan sharks, were what led to the incident.

And despite no one seeming to give a damn about it, the female students, in general, seemed to be more radiant than usual. Now, what caused this in them remains a mystery.

=Scene Break=

Later that same day, at 10:35 AM, during the break, Jimmy buys something to eat from the cafeteria vending machine and sits down with his friends at an empty table.

With him were Pete, Christy, and her best friend Angie, and joining the group for the first time was Mandy. No one knows where the hell Gary had gone; the idiot had vanished.

It had been about a week since Christy started sitting with them during the break, and along with her came her best friend Angie. She is a girl of average beauty, not part of any of the school cliques, wears glasses, and has black hair, always tied into braids.

While everyone ate, logically things they had bought, after all, no one there was stupid enough to eat what the school served, Jimmy noticed that Mandy, who was talking with Christy and Angie, wasn't eating anything.

"Aren't you going to eat?", interrupting the girls' conversation, Jimmy asks her as he finishes his second sandwich and moves on to the third.

Turning her attention to Jimmy, Mandy replies, "I'm not hungry, I ate earlier."

"During class?", raising an eyebrow, Jimmy asks suspiciously.

"Yeah…", Mandy nods, only to be betrayed by her stomach growling loudly.

Looking at her in silence, Jimmy takes a big bite of his sandwich before getting up from the table and walking over to the vending machine, leaving Mandy and the others confused.

Then, after buying several sandwiches, he returns to the table and places them in front of Mandy while saying, "Here!"

"I'm part of the cheerleaders, Jimmy! If I eat all that, I'll gain weight", Mandy argues, frowning at the food in front of her.

Because of canon, Jimmy knew very well what was going on with Mandy, so he insisted on the subject. "Gaining weight, my ass. How many times a day do you eat and in what amounts?"

"I eat normally, three times a day! It's just that today I don't feel like it", Mandy argues, uncomfortable with the subject.

Furrowing his brow, Jimmy says, "There's no such thing; if you don't want to eat even though you're hungry, then you're sick in some way."

Having paid attention to the conversation since Jimmy got up to buy more food, Christy suddenly speaks up, tattling on Mandy. "She forces herself to throw up what she eats."

"Christy! How do you know that?", turning her shocked gaze to Christy, Mandy asks, upset.

"Angie and I saw you do that a few times in the gym and dormitory bathrooms! We wanted to talk to you about it, but you always seemed kind of unapproachable, so we hesitated", Christy explains with an apologetic look. It might even be something Mandy doesn't like to talk about, but the reality is that this isn't healthy for her body and should be addressed.

"Bulimia, then", taking his cue to bring up the subject, Jimmy says, drawing the attention of everyone at the table.

"What?", Mandy asks, confused. What is that?

"You probably have bulimia", Jimmy says again. Pete, across from him, raises his eyebrows in surprise upon hearing this; he knew what bulimia was.

"What is that?", Mandy asks, still not knowing what this bulimia thing was.

"It's an eating and psychological disorder that makes people kind of paranoid about weight and body shape, so to lose weight, they do stupid things like taking medication recklessly, forcing themselves to vomit, and fasting", Jimmy explains, making Mandy lower her head as she realizes she probably did have bulimia.

"I don't have that", Mandy murmurs, refusing to admit that she suffered from bulimia.

"I just want what's best for you, Mandy! Tell me, why do you force yourself to throw up?", speaking in a calm voice, Jimmy asks, wanting to help her stop this disorder.

"I… can we talk about this somewhere else?", hesitating, Mandy asks, not feeling comfortable talking about it in the middle of the cafeteria where anyone could hear.

"Alright, but I'm going to hold you to that conversation! And don't even try to avoid me, now eat what I bought for you", Jimmy says, being understanding.

Kind of wrapping up the conversation, Jimmy briefly looks to the side and notices some nerds approaching their table.

The group approaching was composed of Algie, Melvin, Beatrice, and Bucky, a boy of short stature compared to the current Jimmy, who wears oval-lensed glasses, has big teeth, a skinny build, and combs his light brown hair in a middle-parted style.

As soon as they get close, Algie greets Jimmy awkwardly, trying to use slang. "Y... yo, my man Jimmy!"

"Sup, Jim!", Bucky greets him, doing a bit better than Algie, only failing at the familiarity part; where did 'Jim' come from? Jimmy was already a nickname.

"Hi… what is she doing here?", Beatrice greets the group in a friendly manner, only to ask with a furrowed brow upon noticing Mandy eating a sandwich while sitting beside Jimmy.

"Hey, guys! Jimmy, Algie said you agreed to play G&G with us, do you mind if we create your character now?", Melvin greets everyone before turning to Jimmy, asking about the campaign he had agreed to join.

"All good, sit down! And Mandy's here because she's my friend", gesturing for them to sit at the table, Jimmy turns to Beatrice and says, making her shoot him an indignant look.

"But…", Beatrice begins to speak, wanting to convince him that Mandy wasn't a good person, but ends up being interrupted.

Interrupting her, Mandy apologizes for everything she had put her through before doing the same with the other Nerds. "Look, I don't see the point in apologizing because it won't change anything that's already been done, and I know you'll keep hating me anyway! But even so, I'm sorry for bullying you; in fact, I'm extending that apology to all the Nerds."
