Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 : The Horror of Bio-Wave Scanning — The Fatui Block the Road

Kairo shook his head, pushing stray thoughts aside, and focused on the skewer in front of him.

After finishing his meal and drink, he stepped out of the Good Hunter, ready to continue exploring with the Bio-Wave Scanner in hand.

Night had quietly fallen over Mondstadt.

The city's streets glowed under warm, golden lights.

Above, stars glittered beside a curved silver moon, while the crisp night air carried the mingled aromas of food from the bustling market stalls.

Shops on both sides of the street had already lit their lanterns.

Amber light spilled onto cobblestones, giving the city an inviting, vibrant warmth.

The market thrummed with life — vendors shouting, customers haggling, laughter echoing through the air.

Stalls overflowed with colorful goods, drawing in steady streams of passersby.

Some picked through fresh fruit and vegetables; others browsed handmade trinkets.

Children's laughter rang from alleyways as they played under the streetlights.

The city pulsed with vitality, especially now that the crisis of the Stormterror had passed.

Kairo took a deep breath, savoring the evening breeze — then his gaze fell once more on the device in his hand.

This time, he didn't intend to just test it casually.

He wanted to use the Bio-Wave Scanner to truly probe the hidden depths of Mondstadt's resources.

"With a tool like this," he murmured, eyes gleaming with anticipation, "how could I not make use of it?"

The scanner wasn't merely a gadget anymore —

it had become a key to unlocking the unseen wealth of Teyvat.

Not only ore veins or simple plants.

Even rare materials infused with elemental energy — things hidden from ordinary sight — could now be revealed.

And this was only Mondstadt.

If he ever made it to Liyue, its true worth would multiply.

Smiling faintly, Kairo narrowed his eyes and pressed the activation button.

The screen flared to life, delicate wave patterns flowing across it as it began scanning the surroundings.

He switched it into urban-environment mode, tuning its sensitivity to pick up not just large-scale energy but even minute biological traces.

The light on the scanner brightened steadily as Kairo walked along the street corners and market edges.

When he passed a fruit stall, the device beeped softly — ordinary biological readings from fresh produce.

Nothing unexpected.

He moved on, stepping into a narrow side alley where the sounds of the market faded behind him.

Ancient stone walls rose on both sides, their brickwork worn smooth by time.

Wooden windows, darkened by age, gave the place a quiet, nostalgic air.

Overgrown plants clung to the walls, rustling softly as a light breeze swept through.

It was peaceful here — like a pocket of calm hidden within the busy city.

Then, the Bio-Wave Scanner emitted a sharper hum.

The readings on the screen changed — no longer the ordinary biological signature of fruit or grass.

The frequency and amplitude spiked in a distinct pattern.

"...Dandelions?"

Kairo's gaze followed the signal — across the grass, dozens of dandelions swayed gently in the wind.

But one stood out.

Amid the white puffs was a single dandelion glowing faintly with pale-blue light.

Its soft luminescence shimmered subtly in the dim alleyway — something one would easily miss without the scanner's guidance.

It was tucked among the others, nearly invisible unless one looked closely.

Kairo crouched and brushed his fingers over the glowing flower.

A gentle breath of Anemo energy drifted across his fingertips — cool, refreshing, like a soft wind gliding over open fields.

At that moment, he realized this was no ordinary plant.

It was a special Mondstadt local specialty, infused with a purer Anemo Element essence than most.

"Figures…" he muttered. "Also a Mondstadt specialty — but one that needs Anemo Element to harvest."

Unfortunately, he didn't have a Vision, much less an Anemo one.

He didn't even have a Wind Catcher — something that could store wind seeds and release them for collection.

"If I had one of those, I could just scoop the energy right up…"

Kairo sighed, rubbing at his temples.

He remembered that these glowing dandelions fetched a decent price — but without the means to gather them, he could only move on.

Pocketing the scanner again, he resumed his quiet exploration through Mondstadt's streets.

The night deepened.

Crowds thinned, yet the city's warmth lingered.

Everywhere he passed, Kairo paused briefly, sweeping the scanner across alleys, doorfronts, and gardens.

To his surprise, Mondstadt wasn't just a city of commerce — it was a land teeming with overlooked resources.

Even inside shops, or behind the windows of residential homes, the scanner pulsed with faint signals.

He couldn't help a wry smile.

Good thing this thing's in my hands. If the Fatui ever got their hands on it, they'd probably turn into master thieves overnight.

Shaking his head, he powered down the scanner and lifted the small pouch he'd been filling.

Inside were mostly Windwheel Asters, herbs laced with elemental traces, and bits of mineral ore — all valuable materials.

Not a bad haul for a single night.

He'd earned enough to make any adventurer jealous.

Tonight, he could rest easy.

Tomorrow, he'd drop by the Adventurers' Guild and cash in.

He glanced up at the moon — it was already deep into the night.

Just as he turned toward his rented lodgings, several figures appeared ahead, their silhouettes cutting through the lamplight.

Kairo slowed his pace, brow tightening.

The dim yellow glow of the street lamps fell upon them — five figures advancing in measured steps, the tension in the air mounting with every one.

Their attire made Kairo's eyes narrow instantly.

Those uniforms — black and crimson, sharp-lined, adorned with sigils and insignias he knew too well.

Fatui Skirmishers.

Three men, clad in dark armor traced with red markings — steady, disciplined, and oppressive in presence.

Two women, dressed in sleek, tight-fitting battle attire that gleamed faintly under the moonlight — elegant yet unmistakably dangerous.

The five formed a silent line across the street, blocking Kairo's path.

He exhaled slowly, his expression turning wry.

"So… they came looking for me after all, huh?"
