Chapter 23 - First date

Chris and Taylor walked side by side toward the movie theater, their fingers intertwined, both of them smiling like teenagers.

"So… what are we watching?" Taylor asked, glancing up at him.

Chris shrugged playfully. "You pick. I'm fine with anything as long as I'm with you."

Taylor rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smile. "Cheesy, but… I like it."

Once inside the theater, Chris bought the tickets while Taylor grabbed some popcorn and drinks. He returned with two large cups of soda and a bag of popcorn, handing them to her with a teasing grin.

"Here, don't let me carry everything. I'm strong, but I'm not a superhero," he joked.

Taylor laughed. "Oh please, you've been carrying my backpack all week. I think you're well on your way to superhero status."

Chris mock-bowed. "Thank you, thank you. I'll accept my medal now."

They found their seats, sliding in beside each other. Taylor rested her head slightly on his shoulder, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. Chris glanced down at her, surprised by the instinct to wrap his arm gently around her. He did, cautiously, not wanting to overstep, but it felt natural, right.

The lights dimmed, and the previews began. Taylor's hand brushed against his occasionally, and Chris couldn't stop smiling, feeling that quiet happiness he hadn't realized he was missing.

Halfway through the movie, Taylor laughed at a scene a little too loudly, drawing Chris's attention. "What?" she whispered, still giggling.

"You're adorable," he said softly, almost forgetting the movie.

Taylor's cheeks flushed. "Stop it," she whispered, hiding her face in the popcorn bag.

Chris laughed quietly, then leaned a little closer. "Nope. Can't stop. It's part of my new job — making you blush."

Taylor peeked at him from behind the popcorn and shook her head, but her smile betrayed her. The movie continued, but neither of them could fully concentrate. Between the laughter, the soft touches, and their occasional glances, the theater felt like their own little world.

By the time the movie ended, Chris walked Taylor to her car. "So… thoughts?" he asked, holding her hand.

Taylor smiled, warmth spreading in her chest. "It was perfect. Thank you for today, Chris."

Chris grinned, brushing a damp strand of hair from her face. "No, thank you. For letting me finally call you mine."

Taylor laughed softly, shaking her head. "You're ridiculous."

"I know," he said, squeezing her hand gently. "But I think you like it."

Taylor's heart skipped. "Maybe a little," she admitted, leaning her head slightly toward his shoulder as they stood in the soft evening light.

And as they said goodnight, walking away hand in hand, both of them knew this was only the beginning — the start of countless moments, small and big, that would make their story unforgettable.
