Chapter 18 - The Vet

After witnessing the small show of the boy performing himself playing a violin beautifully at the crowd, Felix and Seren went to the vet to pick up Théo. There's nothing special this time, only a small 10-minute walk.

"Alright, here it is." Seren stopped as they got near the vet; it was in the quieter area of the city—not as crowded as their area. "This is the designated vet…."

"Ohh… 'kay." Felix said.

It wasn't a big building, like, it was only a 1-story building and the front impression is quite a narrow building—flanked by buildings next to it. It was painted in white, and a few parts are gray. At the middle-top lies a big banner: PRAKTIZIERENDER TIERARZT. Which means: practicing veterinarian.

So this is the place where that cat has been staying for days….

As they went inside, they were greeted by the reception on the left and others with their pets on the right.

"Good morning. How can I help you?" The receptionist said politely in German. She wears formal wear.

"We're here to pick up a cat…. He was a black and white one." Felix replies in German.

"Okay…. Then, may I ask for your name, sir?"

"I'm Felix Montclair."

"Okay, please wait here, sir." The receptionist then walks straight to the veterinarian's room ahead.

"Hey, Seren."

"Yes?

"Is Théo's treatment has been covered by Mr. Friedrich, too?" Felix asked.

Seren nods.

Ohh… good. I couldn't believe he did all of this, only for me to join the-

After waiting for only a few moments, the receptionist came back to them and said, "The veterinarian wants you both to come in."

"Oh, shouldn't we queue?" Felix questioned.

"No, the veterinarian said that he wanted to meet now." The receptionist explained.

"Okay…."

"For now, your belongings will have to be left here. May I take your belongings, sir?" The receptionist offered her hand.

Felix hands the paperbags to her as she continues to save it on the counter.

"Okay, follow me." The receptionist said.

Right then, they follow her direction. As they walked in front of the people that had queued, they also gave them an awkward smile. When they're in the veterinarian's room, the receptionist left and excused herself.

In the room, there was no one but Felix and Seren themself. The room has a stainless steel examination table in the center, medical equipment on stands with wheels, built-in cabinets, a sink area with various supplies, and soft lighting from recessed ceiling lights. The overall space looks sterile, organized, and designed for clinical procedures.

After gazing around the room, finally, a man came out of nowhere and said, "Ahh, Felix and Seren, isn't it?" in English.

The man wore blue medical clothing, and a stethoscope hung against his nape. He was a mature man and quite a tall figure.

"Y-yes we are…." Felix said cluelessly in English.

The man handshaked Felix and Seren and quietly said, "My name is Daniel Krüger. I've been waiting for you 2."

Felix and Seren went silent, and then the veterinarian giggled. "My bad. Youngsters, actually, Friedrich has said a bunch about you."

"Huh, really?" Seren said in English, her eyes showed a hint of confusion.

"Yeah, he's my friend. And…" The veterinarian lowers his tone. "You both came from the outside, aren't you?"

Felix furrowed his brows. "Yea-"

"Yes, we are-"

"Shhh…" Seren's out loud voice gets shut by Felix.

The place becomes quiet for a while until the veterinarian lets out a laugh. "…Honey…!" He calls for… someone loudly.

"Yes, honey." A woman in the same blue surgical clothing came out of nowhere while holding a rectangular pet carrier. "Here is your pet." The woman gave the pet carrier to Seren and smiled.

"Thanks." Seren glanced through metal wire at the front, inside the pet carrier Théo was sleeping; curling his body. "Théo…."

The man gestures toward her and says, "Let me introduce her. She is my wife, Clara Krüger."

"Hi…!" The woman waved.

Felix and Seren both smiled.

"So, Mr. Krüger, you said that Mr. Friedrich is your friend…." Seren said.

The man's eyes widened. "Yeah, we are friends from high school. He had been leaving his pet to us for a medical treatment. Hahaha, that man, he's so nice, isn't he? Letting you use his first name."

Oh, I completely forgot about it and continuously called his first name. Damn it, we haven't socialized for years, I kinda lost my manners. Sorry Mr-

As Felix got drowned to his own thoughts, Seren said, "Yes he is! When I first met him, I was clumsy, and he let me use his first name."

Felix sighed in relief inside.

"Say, Mr. Krüger, is it fine to abandon the queueing patients?" Felix said in worry.

"Yeah, let's get straight to the point, your pet… pardon, what's his name?"

"It's Théo!" Seren said.

"Yeah, Théo's minor injuries have completely recovered. Well, at first, he was anxious when I took care of him…. But he adapted fast." The man explained.

"Good…."

The man slightly nods. "Well, I wish we could have a longer talk."

"Yeah, I think we have to go by now…." Felix said.

"Okay. Bye, have a nice day." The man said goodbye, and his wife smiled.

"Byeee!" Seren goodbyes as she walks away with the pet carrier, giving a wave with her other hand.

However, the man suddenly tapped on Felix's shoulder and said, "I hope your wound is fine. And also…, don't say to anybody where you both came from."

As the man said, Felix shows a faint smile. "It's fine. I've kept that in mind."

The man put on a genuine smile and so on his wife; whose standing beside him.

Seren, who's about to go out, noticed their conversation and couldn't help but to stand still, tilting her head in curiosity.
