Chapter 7 - Battle in Greenville Forest

For the coming days Ian kept up his routine of hunting as he went along. The third day he ran into an iron rank beast like the Iron-Skin Bear. This time it was a Queen Bee, a huge bee with a massive purple stinger.

'This could be dangerous. That stinger is clearly poisonous. If I get hit it won't end well'

Luckily he was quite far from the bug. He only saw it thanks to using his [Hawk Eyes] skill to keep a look out.

'I'll end it before it sees me.'

Ian raised his bow and tried out his new skills. Activating both [Weakness Detection] and [Arrow Charge]. Ian's vision changed, his [Hawk Eyes] focusing only on the Queen Bee.

Its body had a red target mark in its midsection. This was the manifestation of [Weakness Detection]. Ian nocked his arrow and felt his mana moving through his arm into it.

The arrow began to emit a green hue. The mana kept building up until Ian's arm could barely withstand the pressure.

Locking onto his target Ian fired the mana charged arrow.

FWIP

It flew faster than a regular eye could see. In a split second it had reached its target. The Queen Bee had no time to dodge but it did move a bit before the arrow could reach it.

What should've hit its weakspot directly ended up just piercing its body. The arrow did a lot of damage but not enough to kill it in one shot.

The bee's eyes went red with rage as it flew toward the source of the arrow. It's wings buzzed as it sped toward Ian.

The bee was faster than expected and it was already closing in on his location. Ian didn't panic and started maneuvering around to buy time for another shot. His mana was a bit low because of the first attack but he could muster out one more.

The bee kept chasing him focused solely on killing whatever hurt it. From a tree not too far away a black blur began flying towards it unnoticed. Taking advantage of its frenzy, the hawk that had been following Ian, attacked be bee from behind.

The bee's wings were ripped apart by the hawk's talons causing to fall out of the sky. Its high speed only made the impact worse as it slammed directly into a tree.

Looking back Ian took advantage of its immobility and fired two more arrows. The faint green streaks hit their targets. The bee's weaknesses were directly impaled by the two arrows finally finishing it off.

'No level up this time. Well it was weaker than the bear plus I had help.'

Ian thought as his eyes locked on the black hawk. He approached carefully, watching as the hawk pecked at the bee's corpse. It dug it's beak into its core and pulled out a purple gem from it. This was its magic core, iron rank beasts and above had them. They can be used for many things. Making items, enchanting, and even making potions and salves.

The core of the Iron-Skin Bear had been used to buff the defense capabilities of his cloak. Ian moved toward the hawk intending to take that valuable and sell it somewhere or something.

Before he could do that though the bird ate the gem.

"No! What are you doing you dumb bird? That's mine!"

Ian screamed as the bird stole his loot. The burd looked back at him with a look that said. 'What are you saying? This is mine!'

"No no no buddy. I killed it, the loot is mine"

Ian retorted, seeing the bird's actitue. Hearing this the bird just kept the same look on its face.

"Haa.. Why am I even bothering to argue with a bird. Whatever you can have it."

Ian realized the absurdity pf his situation and moved on. He walked toward the Queen Bee.

'There has to be something useful in this body. It's an iron rank beast after all.'

He tried his best to process the body. His lacking experience with bugs definitely damaged some of the byproduct but the important stuff was fine.

Ian looked at the purple organ he found. The Queen Bee's poison sack.

'Now this could come in handy'

He carefully made a hole in it with an arrow and poured its contents into a bottle. The sack had honestly more poison than he had hoped, completely filling the bottle.

The hawk stayed right next to Ian the whole time he worked. It seemed to be inspecting his actions, making sure he wasn't stealing its prey. It continued to peck at the bee, enjoying its meal.

Ian wasn't going to eat it so he left it to its business and just harvested the bee's stinger and the poison. He reached his hand toward the hawk, hoping that now he could tame it.

The bird suddenly stopped moving. It looked directly into Ian's eyes as his hand came closer to its head. They locked eyes as they made contact and then a window appeared in Ian's vision.

Congratulations Ian! You have tamed a Black Feather Hawk (lvl.9).

What will you name it?

'A name? Didn't really think about this'

Ian smiled when he saw the pop up and thought about it for a minute.

'What should I call it?...'

Eventually he landed on Arrow. Not the best name but Ian never had a good naming sense in the first place. Besides simple is best.

"Alright your name is Arrow now. Do you like it?"

Ian asked the bird after naming it. Arrow replied with a skwak.

"I guess that means you do? Anyway let's get moving Arrow. We have places to be."

As Ian got up Arrow flew up to his shoulder, using it as a stand.

"Oh this is sick!"

Ian excitedly ran through the forest with Arrow in tow. Throughout the jurney they hunted and killed many animals. Arrow flew above him and dived down to kill its prey after Ian hits them with an arrow. They were perfectly coordinated and fell into a rhythm.

Eventually they made it out of the Greenville Forest and in the distance they could see huge walls. Ian had finally made it to Canopy City.
