Chapter 273: Arrival at Urumqi
Also, if possible, Kenji was very much looking forward to letting his own Pokémon battle this Giant Dragonite one day.
"How long has this Giant Dragonite existed?" Kenji asked curiously.
Namgung Xi shook her head. "I don't know. Since our ancestors first discovered Dragon Island, the Giant Dragonite has been there.
It guards the vicinity of Dragon Island day and night. It's incredibly fast and has extremely keen senses. Any Pokémon that dares to intrude on Dragon Island without a Dragonite guide will be detected and attacked by it."
It had existed since Dragon Island was discovered.
That meant the Giant Dragonite had lived for at least several thousand years.
And that was just since humans found the island.
Perhaps it had been guarding the island since the moment Dragon Island was formed.
Or even bolder—perhaps the Giant Dragonite had existed since the dawn of the Dragonite species itself.
An unchanging lifespan, an immeasurable size.
The existence of the Giant Dragonite was something modern science simply couldn't comprehend.
Why did it exist? Why did it guard Dragon Island eternally?
Humans didn't know, and likely never would.
Perhaps only the ageless First-Class Gods, or the one known as the omniscient and omnipotent creator, knew the answer.
"Are you sure it's okay to tell me about the Giant Dragonite?" Kenji asked.
Namgung Xi shrugged. "It's not really a secret. Just something ordinary people don't know. For high-ranking officials or top-tier trainers in various countries, the existence of the Giant Dragonite is common knowledge."
If Kenji really wanted to know, he could have just asked Director He.
True. Although Namgung Xi seemed carefree, she wasn't stupid.
She wouldn't casually spill her family's secrets to a guy she met a few days ago unless it was safe to do so.
For the next few days, Namgung Xi's presence added some fun to Kenji's somewhat monotonous journey.
Like trainer, like Pokémon—Dragonite (Lulu) also had a carefree personality and quickly became friends with Kenji's team.
Since they were traveling together, Kenji also got a look at Namgung Xi's other Pokémon besides Dragonite.
She had four other Pokémon: Druddigon, Lilligant, Altaria, and Teddiursa.
[Druddigon]
Gender: Male
Level: 96 (Champion)
Type: Dragon
Ability: Sheer Force
Potential: S-
[Lilligant]
Gender: Female
Level: 28
Type: Grass
Ability: Own Tempo
Potential: C
[Altaria]
Gender: Female
Level: 59 (Gym Leader)
Type: Dragon / Flying
Ability: Cloud Nine
Potential: S-
[Teddiursa]
Gender: Female
Level: 14
Type: Normal
Ability: Quick Feet
Potential: D
When Namgung Xi released her team, Kenji was dumbfounded.
He had never imagined a trainer's team could have such a massive disparity in potential.
On one hand, she had S-Rank Pseudo-Legendaries like Dragonite and S- Potential dragons like Altaria and Druddigon.
On the other hand, she had a D-Rank Teddiursa, seemingly picked up from the roadside.
Essentially, Druddigon belonged to her grandfather; at Level 96, it acted as her bodyguard. As Namgung Xi said, unless she faced a situation like the Vespiquen swarm, Druddigon wouldn't lift a finger.
So, the Pokémon that truly belonged to Namgung Xi were the other four.
Among them, only Dragonite and Altaria had real combat ability.
Lilligant and Teddiursa were basically cute mascots.
"Xiaobai (Altaria) and Lulu (Dragonite) grew up with me since I was little. Xiaoqun (Lilligant) and Toudou (Teddiursa - Potato) are ones I caught myself after coming to the mainland."
Namgung Xi introduced her Pokémon one by one.
She treated them equally. Lilligant and Teddiursa ate High-Grade Pokéblocks.
Dragonite, Druddigon, and Altaria ate a special type of Pokéblock.
According to Namgung Xi, these were Dragon Island specialties.
They contained a unique berry native to Dragon Island. Long-term consumption could even slightly increase the potential of Dragon-type Pokémon.
As the only Dragon-type currently on Kenji's team, Arbok got to taste two of them. It was instantly hooked, its vertical pupils widening in delight, and its usually cold gaze softening with pleasure.
Namgung Xi was surprised but generous. Seeing Arbok liked them, she happily shared more.
Although she didn't say it, these Dragon Island specialty blocks were top-tier goods even among Special-Grade Pokéblocks. They were priceless treasures that money couldn't buy in the outside world.
Kenji almost wanted to extend the trip just to mooch a few more meals for Arbok.
Of course, Kenji wasn't a freeloader. He took out some of his own Special-Grade Pokéblocks and exchanged them with Namgung Xi.
They traveled like this for another five days. Finally, on the afternoon of the fifth day, Kenji and Namgung Xi arrived at the location of the Western Region Gym.
Urumqi. The capital of the Western Regions.
