Chapter 170: Slaking Takes the Stage!! One Punch!!
The strongest contestant from Imperial Academy and the strongest from Metropolis Academy were actually appearing in the same group of matches.

Just as Kenji was walking toward the entrance tunnel, the door to the Imperial Academy lounge suddenly opened. An ordinary-looking young man walked out.
Around the young man's neck hung a pendant, and suspended from that pendant was a Key Stone.
Zephyr.
Kenji paused for a moment; he hadn't expected such a coincidence.
As if sharing a telepathic connection, Zephyr turned his head slightly and locked eyes with Kenji.
Then, Zephyr smiled faintly and nodded at Kenji—a simple greeting—before walking toward his own entrance.
Kenji withdrew his gaze and followed behind, heading toward his designated entrance.
Both of them walked out of their respective tunnels and arrived at their battlefields.
The battlefield Kenji drew was the Metal Field. The ground was made of hard iron.
On a battlefield like this, moves like Dig were practically unusable—unless a Pokémon wanted to smash its head open. Furthermore, moves like Earthquake would have their power significantly dampened.
However, this terrain didn't affect Kenji much.
On the other side, Konrad from Blackwater Academy walked to the trainer's box opposite Kenji.
Konrad looked down, his gaze sweeping over the steel battlefield, and a smirk curled at the corner of his mouth.
"The match... begins!!"
"Come out!! Slaking!!"
"Come out! Magmortar!!"
"POP!!—"
Two beams of red light flew into the arena.
In front of Kenji, a Pokémon lying on its side, scratching its butt, stared at its opponent with dead-fish eyes.
On the other side stood a corpulent Pokémon, its body covered in fur that looked like raging flames, with massive cannons for arms.
Magmortar, the final evolution of Magby, and the counterpart to Electivire.
Its base stat total was exactly the same as Electivire's, at 540.

Type: Fire
Ability: Flame Body (Contact with the Pokémon may burn the attacker)
Potential: A-
Although Blackwater Academy couldn't compare to Imperial or Metropolis, it was still considered a top-tier academy.
This Level 45 Magmortar was likely Konrad's ace Pokémon.
Slaking?
Opposite him, Konrad froze, a look of surprise on his face. He hadn't expected Kenji to send out a Slaking.
"What? The Pokémon contestant Kenji sent out is actually a Slaking!"
In the commentary booth above, Forrest exclaimed in surprise as the camera switched to Kenji's Slaking.

Kenji watched Magmortar silently, his gaze fixed on the Flamethrower hurtling toward his Pokémon.
Just as the Flamethrower was about to hit, Slaking's body suddenly vanished into thin air.

The pillars of fire slammed into the ground, missing their target completely and hitting the steel floor. In just a second or two, the metal ground was heated to a glowing red.
The temperature of the ground rose rapidly.
"What!!—"
Konrad's eyes widened in shock. He stared blankly at the spot where Slaking had vanished, completely bewildered. Subconsciously, he scanned the battlefield, searching for Slaking.
At the same time, Magmortar on the field also began looking around, but Slaking was nowhere to be seen.
"Slaking, Mega Punch!!!—"
"Magmortar! Watch your back!!!"
Kenji and Konrad's voices rang out simultaneously.
The moment Konrad's voice shouted out, a chill ran down Magmortar's spine, and a sense of crisis instantly engulfed its entire body.
It instinctively turned its head, catching a glimpse of its rear out of the corner of its eye.
Through the raging flames on its shoulders, it saw a Slaking standing expressionlessly behind it. Its knees were slightly bent, its body turned sideways, and one arm was raised high. The fist was wrapped in white light as Normal-type energy surged around it.
"BOOM!!!!—"
Slaking swung its fist down with tremendous force, smashing squarely into Magmortar's body.
Magmortar was tough; it didn't make a sound after taking Slaking's punch. Instead, its body flew straight forward, tearing through the air and creating a sonic boom.
In one second, Magmortar's body flew from in front of Konrad all the way to in front of Kenji.
It had flown across the entire battlefield.
On the ground, Magmortar's eyes were swirling spirals. It had clearly lost consciousness.
"Return, Slaking."
Kenji spoke softly. At the same time, the fifteen-second teleportation window expired, and Slaking's body reappeared at its original starting position (before it was recalled).
The arena fell into dead silence.
Konrad looked dumbfounded, momentarily forgetting to even recall his unconscious Magmortar.
