Chapter 90: Meow Meow Meow
As for Arbok and Larvitar, they had far less internal drama than Gyarados.
Arbok just felt a pang of envy seeing Vulpix cradled in Kenji's arms.
Larvitar was the most amicable. It waved its two short hands, greeting Vulpix.
"Yo-mo..."
Vulpix nestled lazily in Kenji's embrace, calling out a greeting to its new teammates.
Suddenly, a blue light flashed in Vulpix's blue eye. The Everstone hanging around Larvitar's neck suddenly floated up, flying straight toward Vulpix.
"Yoi!!—"
Larvitar's eyes widened. It looked on in disbelief as its necklace floated toward Vulpix.
Vulpix controlled its psychic power, placing the Everstone around its own neck.
"So pretty. I like it."
Vulpix's voice rang in Kenji's ear. Kenji's mouth twitched. He hadn't expected Vulpix to be so bossy, snatching Larvitar's necklace the moment they met.
"Yoi..." Larvitar stared with big eyes, its face anxious and helpless, like a child whose favorite toy had been suddenly grabbed.
"CHAA!!—" Arbok hissed from the side, its eyes gleaming with cold light, its voice full of threat.
As Larvitar's boss, if its underling's necklace was snatched, it naturally had to step up.
Seeing his little guys getting ready to fight, Kenji quickly intervened.
First, he carefully removed the Everstone from Vulpix's neck. He put on a stern face. "This is Larvitar's. You cannot steal it."
Then, he softened his voice. "If you like it, I'll buy you one tomorrow, alright?"
"Yo-mo..."
Vulpix let out a quiet call, allowing Kenji to take the Everstone off its neck without protest. It didn't seem too upset.
It seemed he really needed to find a way to curb the spoiled, bossy temper Vulpix had developed in the Breeding House.
Kenji put Vulpix down and crouched to hang the Everstone back around Larvitar's neck.
"Don't be sad," Kenji said, stroking Larvitar's head. Then he pointed a finger at Vulpix.
"Vulpix, you are not allowed to steal things from others. Say sorry to Larvitar."
"Yo-mo..."
Vulpix looked at Larvitar with its mismatched eyes and let out a reluctant, quiet sound.
"Yoi-yoi..." Larvitar held the Everstone with its two small hands. It wasn't a grudge-holder and chirped happily at Vulpix.
Arbok wasn't so forgiving. It stared at Vulpix, its eyes full of hostility.
Vulpix didn't back down. It gave Arbok a challenging look and then leaped back into Kenji's arms.
Although there had been a small squabble between Vulpix and Arbok, Kenji was there to keep the peace.
And with Vulpix now around, Kenji essentially had a little translator.
After dinner, Kenji sent his Pokémon off to train and sat down on the sofa to browse his phone.
Vulpix, meanwhile, turned on the TV and watched a drama. As it watched, it kept transforming into the likeness of the characters, mimicking them.
Men and women, young and old.
Kenji smiled weakly. He found the sight strangely unsettling. It seemed Vulpix truly loved the Illusion ability.
Since they were in his private villa and there were no outsiders, Kenji let it be.
The prize money from the tournament had already been transferred. The event had nearly 250 participants in total. This meant about five-sixths of the freshmen had participated.
250 people at 500,000 Pokédollars each... that was over 120 million Pokédollars.
He had the money, but Kenji honestly couldn't think of many things he needed to spend it on.
The High-grade Pokéblocks were being paid for by the school.
Technical Machines? If Kenji asked, the school would provide them for free. Not that Kenji needed them anyway.
After thinking about it.
Kenji made a decisive move. He looked up the bank account number for Leo's father, Ben, and wired 20 million Pokédollars.
The fact that he didn't need the money didn't mean others didn't.
Leo wasn't like him. His Pokémon didn't get free Pokéblocks.
With this 20 million, coupled with the Scolipede egg Kenji had selected for him, Leo's journey as a trainer would surely be much smoother.
The reason he didn't send the money directly to Leo was simple: Kenji knew how stubborn Leo was. He would have to spend a lot of effort convincing him to accept it.
Having thrown over 20 million Pokédollars away, Kenji looked at the cold, nine-digit balance on his card. He decided against wiring money to Marcus.
Offering money to a Gym Leader felt a bit crass.
A Gym Leader was, simply put, not hurting for cash.
He would save the remaining 100 million Pokédollars to buy Treasures for his own Pokémon.
Thinking this, Kenji went online and ordered an Everstone necklace.
Supply follows demand. Since Everstones were mostly purchased for the Pokémon of rich young ladies, the aesthetic was prioritized. There were countless styles and designs of Everstone jewelry.
Kenji thought for a moment, then handed his phone to Vulpix, who was currently transformed into a little girl.
He recognized the little girl—a fairly well-known child star.
"Here, take a look and pick one out yourself."
Vulpix took the phone, swiped through a few options, and pointed out several necklaces before it was satisfied.
Kenji had money now, so he wasn't bothered by the price. If it liked them, he would buy them.
