Nathaniel stood silently inside the Guild merely staring at the quest board silently, contemplating both what to do and the costs of his new sword
'Which quest can get me enough credit to get promoted quickly..'
He stared into the questboard looking for anything suitable for D-Ranks yet still harder than average quests for D-Ranks
'Oh this is..? It's been left untouched for what seems to be.. quite a long time'
Nathaniel picked up an old almost withering piece of paper..
"Investigate the Ingerton Cave"
It said wirh red markings in the side.
'Red markings mean the amount of adventurers who failed.. then why is this still at D-rank?'
He thought to himself looking at the 8 Red markings in the side of the paper, Shaking the thought out of his mind he slowly walked to the receptionist gently putting the piece of paper on the table
' ' ... ' '
She stayed silent for a moment her face immeadietly darkening with.. fear? worry? but why?
' ' Are you sure.. Adventurer this quest will be unlike any.. it has been this Guild's tradition to let it be.. Please, don't take it. ' '
She said her tone filled with worry and fear for the Adventurer yet Nathaniel merely smiled beneath his mask
The thrill of uncovering the mysteries of something unsolvable.. perhaps this adrrnaline he was feeling was a warning yet he did not falter.
' ' I will break it. ' '
Nathaniel said he's tone full of confidence and yet.. He was not arrogant. He still listened to what the Receptionist said to understand the fight he was getting himself into.
After a hefty and long lecture with a final wave Nathaniel left heading towards the northern forest of Ingerton
Soon hours passed as time relentlessly continued it's eternal march, the sun began to fall down beneath the horizon as Nathaniel found himself the enterance of a dark and ominous cave
' ' This is it huh.. I can already smell something is off.. ' '
He paused for a moment looking at the void-black space which was inviting him.. With a sigh he opened his palm
The heat began to rapidly build up around him as a small ball of fire manifested atop his hand
' ' Lead the way. ' '
He muttered to himself before venturing into the cave the fireball acting as his torch and compass into the abyss
With a soft sigh he stepped into the dark his flame only letting him see a few meters into the dark and soon, he was envelopped by the darkness
Drop.. Drop..
The soft sound of water dropping could be heard, echoing from the distance and soon, foot steps.
They were too small to be a big threat yet it seemed that it was a group of goblins..
'If I use a fireball as a light source... They'll probably see me..'
Slowly the area dimmed as his light flickered out and soon, His mask manifested once again
A few steps closer he'd find himself behind a rock peeking at a few goblins.. they were.. Grayish in colour?
'Gray goblins.. I suppose not everything in the books are right'
He sighed and began to calculate his next course of action yet.. just as he sighed the goblins turned toward him, yet they did not move immeadietly as they "saw him"
'Those eyes... Hm? are they blind?'
Nathaniel pondered as he stared at the pure white pupils staring into him.
It was.. uncanny, perhaps.
'My heart beats.. Hmph. It's uncanny but that's it. Perhaps rookies would have panicked and made too much noise.. And were swallowed by the cave.. I ain't no rookie though.'
Nathaniel slowly opened his hand making sure to make the least amount of sound possible,
Slowly flamea gathered silently making 3 burning spheres around him
'Liberum, Ignem.'
The flamea shot out consuming the Goblins, but.. unfortunately the Goblin's death also brought noise due to the explosion
'Oh right... I'm an idior aren't I? well. The quest said investigate the old cave sonjust gather information... These goblin's aren't in any Monstrumclopedia.. Wait.. if no records of them exist that means they might be a new species...'
Nathaniel smirked before standing up knowing what he should and must do.
'Originally I believed it to be a dungeon, Something I mist clear but now It's clear to me it's a breeding grounds of a new sub species. It's too dangerous to go inside alone so I'll clear this wave get the evidence and get my reward.'
Nathaniel sighed as he slowly took his blade, the white untainted steel no longer shining in the dim, hearing the shuffling the Goblin's immeadietly lunged at him
'Hmph. As expected from predators who hunt via echo-location.'
With a swift swing downwards one of the beasts would be slayed, any normal monster would be frightened but due to their lack of sight they continued..
Relentlessly, they attacked again and again tiring out Nathaniel, each swing each kill his stamina began to worsen as the Goblin's merely grew in number with each dead body falling
'Think... They should be hyper-sensitibe to any sound right? If I can't scare them away by killing em...'
Nathaniel opened his free hand heat beginning to gather, quickly, faster and faster until a gigantic sphere burning crimson red was formed.
'Allow me to name this technique...'
' ' Supernova. ' '
Nathaniel muttered to himself as the ball exploded,
A deafening roar echoed throughout the cave systems as each Goblin began to cover their ears and slowly collapsed,
Unconscious or dead it didn't matter what was important was that now Nathaniel was free
With a sigh of relief He took a Goblin's head off it's body carrying it as he left the cave
' ' Job well-done. I suppose my creative genius did save me once again ' '
Nathaniel said to himself a hint of arrogance and pride in his voice as he walked back towards Ingerton
