Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

The ocean looked quiet tonight. With the moonlight alluring the surface of it, slight waves making pattern on it like of sand's. The blue colour shinning so elegantly. But the underwater wasn't quite.

It was bustling with people, of another species. The mermaids. The underwater city named as "Heart of the Sea". It was the biggest city built in the underwater kingdom, unknown and kept secretive to humankind. Decorated with exotic plants and lustrous metals like gold. And the pearls rose the scenery's beauty.

Mermaids swam through the city around, just like people on land. The city never slept, just like any other city of humans.

One of them...was a pretty teenage girl, named Ivory. She was the youngest daughter of the mayor or king of this domain. The girl wasn't just a natural beauty, she was a lively and mischievous . Always cheerfull, joyful, loved and somehow...kept safe and secure.

Ivory was shopping accessories and jewels with her friends. They laughed and swam around suggesting for each other. Their pretty tails and fins bore pretty patterns of different colours. Each one unique and captivating.

They then headed to their respective homes. Ivory sneaked in the castle of her family. She quitely and nervously swarmed through the window of her room that was open...as it was underwater, yeah.

But... ofcourse, she and her antics were well known by her dear father. The king was a handsome hunk, with few white hairs indicating the wisdom he attained through years. He was sitting on Ivory's bed, waiting patiently with stern eyes as she entered.

Ivory gasped in surprise and then looked down, knowing she got caught.

"F-father, wh-why are you here so late?"

The mermaid almost whispered and her father stood up. Reaching to her with little force of tail.

"Ivory, may I know why you were out so late?"

Her father asked in a stern yet parenting voice. She pouted unknowingly, a habit she got due to being pampered a lot for being the youngest.

"I am sorry, father. My friends asked if I wanted to join them for a market round. And I said yes..."

Ivory muttered and her father raised his brows.

"But Ivory, it's too late for such things. Everything has got an hour of its own in a day."

The king said caressing Ivory's head as he too, couldn't become too strict to her.

"Sorry, father. Won't happen again"

Ivory said and hugged him. And ofcourse, her father melted giving a sweet peck to her head, he smiled.

"Alright, then sleep fast. And don't let your mother know. Or else, I would be thrown out"

Father said chuckling and Ivory giggled too. For few moments, they remained like that. Feeling the joy of the moment dissipate to its last.

Then her father glided out of her room. Leaving Ivory smiling. She then layed on her bed that was also an art in its own. Ivory loves to decorate and craft. Sometimes paints too.

The bed was covered exquisite flowers and fishes surrounded the rooms almost all the time. The extravagant view of her room was what made Ivory love and be inspired to be creative.

She got on her stomach reaching out to a novel, she reads everyday before bed. It was a book that was pure fantasy. A fantasy...a forbidden fantasy. A relation between a mermaid and human. This was a really wrong idea. So wrong that...she still hides it in her pillowcase. But the more forbidding it is...the more tempting it gets.

She had read about the humanland and it's world system through the books. But with a caution of how they are really endangering mermaids too.

She knew how most of the humans would see the mermaids as some trophy or some showpiece for them. They won't treat her kind like they should.

But sometimes...her mind drifted to what if...

The questions which were absolutely chaotic and also sometimes made everyone question world itself.

What if, there is someone who would treat her like a friend? Like a real friend? What if, there would be someone who won't be scared or scare her?

With such thoughts swirling in her head, she placed the book on her chest. Hugging it with her slender arms, she shut her eyes. Imagining the what ifs. Drifting to sleep in the now hushed and silent room.
