Chapter 2 - 12 October - Crystal Dessert

From Selis Everlight

To Kazimir

Hi my eternal shadow,

I hope you are doing well. Today, I traveled through a crystal desert in search of you. The desert was made of colorful, sharp crystal shards and stretched on endlessly.

It was way too fucking hot, but I kept moving forward. I promised I would find you after all. The heat wasn't even the worst part, though. The worst were the gigantic worm/scorpion-like creatures hiding beneath the sand. One would have been fine, but being ambushed by hundreds of them from below was quite annoying. Don't worry, tho, I'm fine. I can't say the same for them. Their meat tasted quite good actually, so that was nice. Too bad I couldn't share it with you; I'm sure you would have liked it.

I continued searching the desert until I found a gigantic crystal pyramid reaching all the way up into the clouds. The pyramid was breathtaking, with water flowing from its stones and flowers growing from its cracks. It stood in stark contrast to the barren desert surrounding it. Its crystal walls played beautiful games with the light.

Knowing how much you enjoy hiding in dark, shadowy places, I decided to search the pyramid for you. At the entrance, I encountered some gigantic crystal guardians. They were relatively easy to deal with—just burn and melt them. Once inside, however, I realized the interior wasn't dark at all. Since the pyramid was made entirely of crystal, it allowed light to pass through easily, leaving almost no darkness or shadows. So, I dipped.

It was quite beautiful inside, though—filled with life. It was like a jungle contained within crystal walls, with colorful, refracted light pouring in from the roof. It reminded me of stained glass in old cathedrals. Truly beautiful. The creatures inside were fascinating as well; they seemed fused with the crystal in a symbiotic relationship. The animals would move toward the light, charging the crystals, and the crystals in turn gave energy back to the animals. There were many of them: colorful birds with crystal-filled wings, snakes with crystals embedded in their heads, and many more. I won't bore you with all the details. I would have liked to observe them longer, but I missed you, so I left and continued my search.

I miss you. I hope I find you soon.

Your Eternal Light,

Selis Everlight
