Her jaw felt stiff watching her fiancé now passionately kissing another woman. Her eyes grew more teary, her vision also blurred because she did not expect the man who had always loved her, now secretly betrayed her. Actually, why did her fiancé do this forbidden thing suddenly? Was it true that her fiancé had only been acting in front of her all this time to cover up all his big mistakes? Now what should she do? Should she go to that bastard and beat him up? If she looked at the situation now, her fiancé and the man she had just slept with were both bastards.
Her blood pressure felt like it was going to explode. Her patience was running out, and she was going to choke on air if she didn't vent her anger. She quickly walked over to her bastard fiancé and slapped him across the face with all her strength, making him turn red.
The man touched his slapped cheek and glared at his fiancée from head to toe. "Edith… how did you get here?"
Edith laughed lightly as she stared at the slut in the minidress. "Since when have you been doing this?"
"Edith, actually–"
"There's no need to explain. I saw it with my own eyes. You betrayed me just as we were about to be married. You're such a jerk, Cliff."
Cliff had initially intended to put on a pleading face, but now his expression turned cold. He wasn't going to be nice to his fiancée, who was annoying in his eyes. Now he grabbed the stranger's hand again and kissed her passionately on the lips. His cold gaze was fixed on his fiancée, as if he were cruelly stabbing her in the heart.
Edith was sick of seeing all this. Now it has been proven that her fiance betrayed her and is not afraid to do it openly. She was more relieved to witness it in person than until now she knew nothing and always acted like a fool in front of her snotty fiancee. Her tears wanted to flow, but she tried to hold them back from the current situation as if she was the one trying to persuade her fiancée back to her.
"It seems like we don't need to continue our relationship anymore." Edith took off her engagement ring and threw it on the floor, letting it roll and hit the wall. "I'm going to tell my parents that I'm the one who decided to call off the engagement because you cheated on me."
Cliff laughed sarcastically, shaking his head. "Edith, I suggest you think this through carefully. If our engagement is called off, will your family be safe?"
"I don't care. I care more about my life being happy and free from the game you've been playing. You're the most despicable man I've ever met." Tears welled up in her eyes. Eventually, she couldn't hold back her tears, as her chest tightened the longer she held them in. "I'll never see you again. Thank you for comforting me for a year. I really like how you've always been so cheerful with me."
Cliff kept his lips tightly pursed as he put his arm around the stranger's shoulder. "Edith, just so you know. I've been so tired of entertaining you. You always seem so weak. Every time I hear your complaints, I get so sick of it."
Her tears grew even louder as she heard her ex-fiancé's sarcastic remarks. "Then why have you been so determined to maintain our relationship? Has listening to all my complaints been entertaining for you?"
"Yes, I always thought of it as just entertainment. Actually, I've been forced to respond to it so you wouldn't be sad." Cliff approached his ex-fiancée and lifted his chin. "I don't care how you try to seduce me. What's certain is that I'm sick of a woman who's unattractive to me."
"Okay. I get it now. You don't need to explain it to me any further." Edith stepped on her ring, which was lying on the floor, with her heels. "Have fun with your new girlfriend."
Edith was fed up with the many bad things she faced every day. First, she'd slept with a man she'd only known for a week. Then, now, her fiancé was cheating on her with another woman. Why did all the bad things always happen to her? Especially since she had no one in her life to support her, except her best friend. Her stepfamily was always demanding of her, too. Every time she made a major mistake, she was treated less than human.
For now, Edith had nowhere to go. If she went home now, would her stepparents abuse her again? That was the reason she booked a hotel room, as she'd been so reluctant to go home lately.
She walked feebly along the sidewalk in the blazing sun. Unconcerned that everyone would laugh at her disheveled appearance, she had resigned herself to her now meaningless life.
tin...tin...
Hearing the sudden sound of a car horn, her gaze immediately snapped to Callum, the one causing the commotion. She looked away for a moment, wiping her wet eyes.
"Get on!" Callum demanded loudly.
Edith had actually been reluctant to speak to Callum since that hot night. However, if she thought about it more carefully, the only man she could rely on to save her now was Callum. She gets into the black sedan next to the handsome young man.
Edith and Callum didn't speak to each other the entire way to the luxurious residence. Callum invited Edith to visit his mansion for the first time without any nervousness. Meanwhile, Edith was very nervous as she first entered the mansion, gazing around the living room, which was no less spacious than her own.
"Why did you bring me here?" Edith laughed lightly, folding her arms. "Are you trying to harass me again?"
Callum put on a pleading face. His strong arms wrapped around her slender body tightly. "Edith, do you trust me?"
"What are you really thinking right now?" She tried to break free from this tight embrace that made her want to cry even more. "Let go of me, Callum!"
"Actually, I've known it all along. I knew your ex-fiancé had been cheating on you all this time."
