I was unaware of what had happened to Jessica Brown; I lit a cigarette on the balcony when Sarah Moore urged me.
"I'm done showering, who's next?"
Sarah Moore was wearing pajamas, her hair still a bit damp.
Sarah Moore wandered around the living room and noticed Jessica was in her room. She asked her from outside if she wanted to shower, but Jessica rasped that she wasn't feeling well and would do it later. Sarah had no choice but to let it go and turned to me, smiling, "Little David, you're lucky today to be second. Go ahead, and leave some hot water for Jess."
I nodded, grabbed a change of pants from my room, and headed towards the bathroom.
At that moment, Sarah received a call.
To her surprise, the call was from Aunt Maria of the Lovers' Barbecue.
Last time she and David had dinner there, she left a number so they could prepare the dishes in advance next time.
But why at this hour was Aunt Maria calling her?
"Hello? Aunt Maria..."
...
A minute later.
"Bang!"
