Chapter 3 - 30 Damn Years Before I was Born... (3)

October 9, 2025 that was the date that everything in the world would forever change. It was the fateful day that everything about the modern world would be swept. Introducing the Gates, Hunters, The Tower, Mana, and the Creatures from beyond the world...

But it was a long ways away. At least for now. It was the 2nd of October 2025 and I had less than a week to prepare for the new era. But thinking about just as I left the hospital, I realized I had an issue. It was the fact that I was broke.

While it was true that I had 10,000 Credits, it wasn't something that I could use right now. Even though I can use it on the Day of Transitions, it would only be then compared to now. Meaning an issue of immediate capital.

Out of curiosity, I began to check my phone. Searching up, "How to get rich quick" and as expected all that appeared on my search was various crypto-scams and various ventures that would never work. I shook my head.

But at least I was making some motion by considering what I could not do. I checked my phone once more and looked for a particular app. Notepad. It would have to be something crucial for taking note of what I needed to do as well as keep track of points of interests.

List:

1. Find an effective means to make money and connections before the Day of Transitions so that I can root myself in power and invest heavily into acquiring specific ventures, and opportunities that no one else can envelop.

2. Acquire some sort of line of intelligence to acquire answers to various question marks that I wasn't aware about, even despite my regression.

While it was true that I was from the future and would as a result know a good amount about what's to occur, what I know isn't absolute. Nor was I the type of person who was a sleuth that sought to know everything about the world.

What I know is limited and more likely than not, it's inevitable that I will forget or misremember some various points of information through time so it would be best to document those points now.

Secondly, there are some points of information that one can't acquire to begin with even if they are a Regressor. This is the type of things like one's personal life and means that could be used to coerce one into compliance or companionship.

For example, the poverty of a future S-Rank hunter can be used by me in order to acquire favorable terms for their loyalty and acquisition if used properly. As an example, Lee Jihan the SS-Rank Frost Monarch of Korea was a major name that I had placed on my list of candidates but tragically his sister died on the Day of Transitions. A pain that he allowed to sink into his heart as he was made always skeptical and untrusting of others.

3. Acquire soft conventional hard-power. Lawyers, Politicians, Bureaucrats, Think-Tanks, CEOs.

During the early years of the transition from the Modern Era into the Hunter Age, there were various issues that the up and rising clans of their era had to contend with. Primarily that issue was the pre-existing elite of Modern society. The rich, the bureaucracy and other decision-makers were all cautious in supporting the adaptation to the new world as it would meant uncertainty for their already existing empires.

At first these institutions were outright hostile to the guilds and the new order, calling upon the people to trust conventional hard forces in the military and public order but these attempts would fail. it would result in a re-orientation in their views and agendas as rather than to oppose the stream, they sought to redirect it.

The logic was that if the Age of Hunters will change the world, then it would be best for my corporation to acquire a special status with the Hunter Guilds as some sort of vital role that they could not play. Logistics, Public Relations, Initial Funding, Political Support...

While I don't have any personal desire or ambition to fully immerse myself into the world of politics or business as it would be a grave and unnecessary hassle to control such an empire, there has to at least be a strong foundation for my power base.

4. Acquire some true and trusted allies. Some Hunters and auxiliary personnel.

This will be the core of any operations that I will be doing after all, without this core base I cannot project any power at all. But even though she comes to mind, it's wrong to involve the past of my mother in even though she would be my greatest supporter if I explained everything out to her.

And our relationship would be so much more complicated...

It took some time but after finishing up the rest of my notes, I had a basic plan of what I needed to do and everything began here. I stared up at an abandoned warehouse with a creaking door. Taking a sigh before walking in.

"I hope that I got the right place. After all, all the warehouses here all look the damn same..."

I muttered annoyed before walking into the dark and abandoned warehouse. Reaching out for my phone, I activated my flashlight feature in order to light the way. A crowbar had been to the side and I reached out for it too.

It was a dark, cramped and disgusting place. The type of place that a criminal would live in so it was best to prepare myself. But even if such a criminal does not exist in this place, it's alright so long as I am not fearful.

I continued to walk down the dark and abandoned hallway. Slowly but surely. Doing my best in order to try and not step in puddles of cascading rain drops that could have outed my position. A soft breath was heard and I paused.

Covering my mouth. I began to breath deliberately, almost confused. But the sound of my breath was different. Deeper where as the other breath was lighter. I continued to walk ahead before finding a glass window. On the other side of it had been a sleeping Russian girl with pure white hair.

The Future SSS-Rank Assassin of Russia's White Bear Guild, Anastasia Leminov...

I stared at her sleeping quietly on the other side of the window. A tinge of anxiety growing within me as I continued to watch over her. I knew that I was here to recruit her. But was it really right to wake up an adorable girl like this up?

I shook my head. It was childish for me to have thoughts like this when the future of the world is at stake.

I knocked against the glass slowly and gently. Her eyes nudging for a moment before fully snapping awake. She stared at me confused before I reached out to my pocket. Pulling out a cracker she stared me with drool descending down from her lips.

I chuckled slightly as she began to drool even more and reached for another "special weapon" this time from my other pocket on the left side. A bottle of orange juice. She stared at it before leaving the room eating the cracker right from my hand.

It wasn't anything that I had expected, prompting me to ask her, "Is this really alright for you to do?" I asked her confused in very poorly spoken Russian and she replied back.

"It's good. The food. But don't speak like that if you aren't familiar with speaking. Also I speak Korean. So don't force it."

I coughed out in pain for a moment as she continued to eat the crackers from my hand.

"That would have made things so much easier."

I sighed as she continued to eat my crackers and she began to open up her orange juice.

"So what brought you here?"

She asked.

"Well, it's nothing much. Well that's what I wanted to say just because it would sound cool but, I came here for you."

She stared up to face me. A confused look in her deep blue eyes. Her eyes shining with a fundamental skepticism and distrust.

"And why me?" She commented before muttering something in Russian, "Idiotka..."

"Also I have more than just the crackers. But I came here because you were someone that I wanted to see and don't you want to become a Hero."

She stared at me blankly before extending her hand out to me.

"You are accepting me already?"

"My mouth is way too dry now, so stop giving me the crackers. Idiot."

"Oh."

I gave her the very next item out of my pocket which had been a basic sushi platter of rice and raw fish. As well as some chopsticks too. She reached out to it and began to eat it. A skeptical look across her face as she didn't seem all that interested in the food.

"It's surprisingly good."

She commented with her eyes opening widely.

"If it's that good, how about letting me take a bite of it?"

I commented before putting my face closer to her food and she pushed me away from it. An annoyed look across her face.

"You bought the food on your own to me, so shouldn't you at least some food to yourself?"

She reasoned and it wasn't something that I could exactly deny as she was right to say such a thing.

"Well continue eating your food and when we are done, we can have a chat..."

She nodded before continuing to eat away at the sushi with a somewhat satisfied look in her eyes. But even though it was very little to go off by, she was someone loyal to a cause even if she did not show it off outright.
