Chapter 234 - Chapter 234 The Traitor in the Dark

After the battle, Ezreal and the others walked over, looking at the two large, mummy-like figures on the ground.

Ezreal raised an eyebrow, first complimenting Droy, "That's a really good new plant. It makes up for your previous weakness in attack power."

Droy chuckled, "Right? Right?"

Ezreal squatted down, pulling one of the assassins' heads towards him with a thorn. "We just got off the ship and checked into the hotel, and already assassins are coming tonight to test the caravan's defenses."

Jet stroked his chin, "The timing is too precise."

Levy pushed up her glasses and said with certainty, "There's an inside man in the caravan."

Ezreal lightly tapped the assassin's forehead with his finger, a faint green miniature magic circle appearing at his fingertip.

His gaze was focused. A moment later, he withdrew his finger and shook his head.

"No useful information," Ezreal stood up, his tone calm. "These two guys are just small-fry sent by the Phantom Lord Guild to probe. Their mission was simply to ascertain the caravan's defensive strength. The orders they received were very simple: retreat immediately after completing the mission, no need to report details."

Jet frowned, "So, the people behind them never intended for them to return alive?"

Ezreal nodded, "Exactly, they're just cannon fodder."

Just then, there was a rush of footsteps from upstairs.

Charlotte, the caravan leader, hurried down the stairs with several guards, a clear look of tension and unease on her face.

Although the skirmish didn't last long, it inevitably created some noise that woke up the caravan members resting upstairs.

Charlotte's gaze quickly swept across the hall, finally settling on the two assassins tied up with thorns on the floor.

"What's going on?" Charlotte's pupils constricted slightly, clearly realizing the seriousness of the situation.

Ezreal turned around and calmly explained, "Two Dark Guild assassins just infiltrated the hotel, attempting to attack us. But we've already dealt with them."

Charlotte's brows furrowed, her gaze lingering on the two assassins for a moment before she turned to Ezreal, "How could the Dark Guild find us so quickly? We just got off the ship and checked into the hotel."

"This efficiency is a bit too high..."

As Charlotte spoke, a clear killing intent began to emerge in her eyes. The aura of this seemingly gentle middle-aged man slowly grew sharper.

Ezreal smiled faintly, a hint of coldness in his tone, "Mr. Charlotte, you must have guessed it too, right? There's an inside man in your caravan."

Charlotte's face darkened. He took a deep breath, then slowly nodded, "Indeed, there's only one explanation."

He pondered for a moment, then said in a low voice, "I will slowly investigate during the upcoming journey to find this inside man."

Ezreal shook his head, his tone indifferent, "No need for such trouble. I have a way to find the inside man directly."

Charlotte was stunned, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes, "You mean?"

Ezreal didn't answer directly. Instead, he turned to Levy and Jet, "Go wake up everyone in the caravan and have them gather in the hall. Remember, everyone must come, except Lucy."

Levy and Jet nodded and quickly went upstairs to notify the caravan members.

Charlotte looked at Ezreal, with a hint of uncertainty in her eyes, "What do you plan to do?"

Ezreal smiled faintly, with a touch of mystery in his tone, "You'll know in a moment."

Not long after, the caravan members arrived in the hall one after another.

Most of them were sleepy-eyed, with looks of confusion and unease on their faces.

Evidently, the earlier sounds of battle and the sudden summons made them feel uneasy.

Ezreal stood in the center of the hall, his gaze sweeping over everyone, then he slowly began, "Everyone, two Dark Guild assassins just infiltrated the hotel, attempting to attack us. But we've already dealt with them."

As soon as he finished speaking, a low murmur of discussion immediately arose in the hall.

The caravan members exchanged glances, clearly shocked by the news.

Ezreal continued, "However, that's not the most serious problem. The most serious problem is that there's an inside man in the caravan."

These words were like a bomb, instantly detonating in the hall.

The caravan members' faces turned pale, and many began to nervously look around, trying to find clues on the faces of those nearby.

Ezreal didn't give them much time to think. He raised his hand and lightly snapped his fingers. Instantly, a black-smoking wolf-headed ghost shot out from his shadow, opening its maw and swallowing the two assassins on the ground.

The ghost's eyes glowed with a crimson light, like a demon from hell. After scanning everyone in the hall, it slowly sank back into Ezreal's shadow. That malicious gaze sent shivers down their spines.

This scene made everyone in the hall gasp.

Someone instinctively took a few steps back, bumping into a chair behind them, making a "clatter"; someone covered their mouth, afraid to let out a scream; and someone else simply collapsed to the ground, their face ashen.

Ezreal's voice rang out again: "I possess a magic that can search others' memories. If I wish, I can easily find out who the inside man is."

As soon as his words fell, a low curse suddenly came from the crowd.

A long-haired young man suddenly drew a short knife from his waist and quickly took a caravan member next to him hostage.

His face was twisted with ferocity, his voice trembling but with a hint of ruthlessness: "Don't come any closer! Or I'll kill him!"

The atmosphere in the hall instantly froze, and everyone's gaze was fixed on the long-haired young man.

The hostage, a young man, had a pale face and fine beads of sweat on his forehead, but he didn't struggle. He just bit his lip tightly, a hint of determination flashing in his eyes.

Charlotte's face became extremely grim.

She took a deep breath, then turned to Ezreal, her tone firm: "Please kill them both directly."

As soon as her words fell, the young man being held hostage's face suddenly turned white, but his eyes became resolute, and his voice trembled with a hint of determination: "Mr. Charlotte, my family... please take care of them."

Charlotte nodded, her tone heavy: "Your family will receive generous compensation, and your entire family will be cared for by Heartfilia. All expenses for your two children until they are twenty will be covered by the guild."

Ezreal glanced at Charlotte, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes. Such decisiveness was indeed worthy of the position of caravan leader.

He lightly patted Charlotte's shoulder, his tone indifferent: "No need for such trouble."
