Blanche's POV
I gathered my courage and stepped out of Carry's room.
Walking by Zain's door, I noticed it stood slightly ajar.
Without thinking, I glanced inside. Zain stood with his back toward me, already dressed, while Joanna faced him, adjusting his tie. He'd even lowered his head to make it easier for her to reach.
I quickly looked away after that brief glimpse.
Making my way downstairs, a hollow feeling settled in my chest. I could handle a tie just as well, but Zain had never asked me to. He usually kept his distance from everyone, yet with Joanna, all his barriers seemed to disappear.
When I reached the bottom of the stairs, Heidi spotted me looking distracted. "Mrs. Jacob?"
I met her eyes, managing a smile. "Heidi, I'm heading to work."
Heidi spoke up quickly. "Won't you eat breakfast first, Mrs. Jacob?"
"No time for that," I answered. I'd already wasted too much time waiting around for Carry.
