Blanche's POV
When I got back to the hospital with the cereal I'd picked up, Carry was watching videos on Heidi's phone, grinning like crazy.
Heidi spotted me first. "Miss Carry, Mrs. Jacob's back."
Carry quickly shut off the screen and sat up straight. "Mom."
My pajamas were completely drenched, but I held the cereal close, worried it might get cold or spill everywhere.
I passed it to Heidi. "Could you help feed her?"
Heidi's eyes went soft when she saw how soaked I was. Her voice cracked a little. "Mrs. Jacob, you should get into some dry clothes."
I nodded without saying anything else.
Carry noticed my wet clothes and wanted to ask if I was alright, but then she remembered how I hadn't even bothered to pick her up from school earlier.
I had spare clothes in the car, so I headed back outside.
Once I reached the car though, exhaustion hit me like a wall. I couldn't even bring myself to move.
I sank back into the seat and shut my eyes.
