Chapter 13: Some well deserved rest.

I unconsciously turned to glance at the hill in the distance that looked like a dot at this point.

' Is she still watching me?' I thought to myself, feeling creeped out. ' Why would she still be watching me?'

[She's probably trying to make sure you got far enough from the forest without being hurt.]

[Ok, she's not looking now.]

[Let's go!] Light said and the next thing I noticed, I was back in my bedroom, this time the shift wasn't as disorienting as before, much to my satisfaction.

[Congratulations on completing the mission]

[Reward: + 20 Points]

[Total Points: 22]

" Haaa... That took a lot of work..."

I didn't hesitate to slump down on my bed.

" Who knew returning a cat would be that troublesome."

[I did...]

" I didn't ask for your opinion.... Could you just buzz off and let me get some shut eye."

[But it's 6 in the morning?]

" Who cares..." I groaned, clinging to my bedsheets. " I'm unemployed now, remember?" I said, then I closed my eyes. Waiting for the sweet comforts of sleep to claim me. " First sleep, after that, I'll deal with everything else."

I soon fell asleep, my room turning silent. Light on the other hand, continued to hover over me. I didn't know how long had passed but he suddenly glanced around the room, blinking at all the different objects he saw.

But his gaze returned to me when I began to stir from my slumber, body sinking into the grooves of my bed.

I wished I could've slept for a bit more but my body simply refused to do so. I didn't know if it had anything to do with light or my heightened stats but whatever it was, I wasn't happy about it in the least.

As I blinked my eyes open, I felt completely refreshed, as if I hadn't just been dragged through that nightmarish forest earlier.

I yawned and stretched my arms high, cracking one by one.

It was a small ritual I usually practiced whenever I woke up, one that always grounded me after a rough day.

Hovering just beside my pillow was Light, my pint-sized angel companion, his orange-sized frame glowing faintly.

Those sharp eyes of his were already fixed on me with that impatient look he wore when he thought I was wasting time.

"How long was I out?" I asked, my voice scratchy, still half-lost in the haze of sleep.

[Four hours]

Light said, his voice carrying a pinch of annoyance, like I'd personally insulted him by daring to rest.

I didn't know what he was expecting from me, but just because I became an honorary angel didn't mean I would work my ass off because of it. A girl needed her beauty sleep, especially me, since i usually got a bit on edge whenever I didn't get enough rest.

He crossed his little arms, still standing Infront of me, refusing to fly off.

' Fine... Have it your way...' I sighed inwardly.

I groaned, dragging myself to sit upright, my feet hitting the cold floor with a shiver that jolted me fully awake.

"Four hours? Feels like I barely closed my eyes." My stomach let out a loud grumble, and I couldn't help but smirk at the way Light's eyebrows shot up, his round face caught somewhere between surprise and judgment.

Seeing that look, I couldn't help but wonder whether he always acted like my human needs were some kind of personal failing, and I found it equally annoying and endearing.

He zipped closer, his little self, hovering right at eye level.

[So, are you finally going to complete the other missions]

His tone was bright, almost too eager, like a kid begging to open presents early.

Well this part of him made me recall the fact that he was an angel, although I didn't know whether all angels acted that way.

His halo tilted slightly, and I could tell he was trying to nudge me into action with that relentless optimism of his.

I froze mid-stretch, my arms still half-raised, and gave him a long look. The memory of my last mission... Looking for Lennie, that beast of a cat, Thanks to her, I was forced to venture into that horrific forest, fighting monsters and almost dying on severe occasions.

It had been exhausting, chaotic, and not exactly the hero moment I'd imagined when I first got roped into this mission completing job.

"Can't I just… skip them?" I asked, my voice softer, almost pleading. "I'm still not over the first one... shouldn't an angel take care of themselves while also taking care of others."

[But you're not an Angel, you're just an honorary angel...]

" Basically the same thing."

[....]

He floated closer, his glow dimming just a touch, his round face softening as he tried to meet my gaze.

[You've still got a few hours left] he said, his voice gentler but still laced with that stubborn hope of his.

[Just try one more]

[Think about Mrs. Granger, how happy she was when you brought Lennie back. That moment must've meant something to you, didn't it?]

I let out a long, dramatic sigh, leaning back against the wall as I thought it over. He wasn't wrong. Mrs. Granger's face although not dumbstruck, was filled with gratitude when I came back on Lennie's back.

That memory tugged at something in me, a strange warmth I wasn't used to feeling.

' Maybe that mission wasn't all bad.' I thought to myself.

"Fine," I muttered, pushing off the wall and running a hand through my messy hair. "One more, after that I'm sleeping in for the night."

" And don't expect me to go over the top this time either... I have points now so you can't say anything if I decide to terminate it mid way."

Light's halo flared bright, and he nodded with a smile, it seemed as if he only got this happy whenever helping someone was involved.
