Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Learning from Whis

The normally silent and solemn Realm of the God of Destruction was soon filled with the lively clang-clang-clatter of kitchenware colliding.

Watching the scene unfold, Whis suddenly felt a pang of guilt.

If Lord Beerus were to wake up and find out that he'd brought a child back here—and even allowed the serene realm to fill with smoke and cooking smells—he'd definitely get scolded!

Whis glanced back toward the distant temple of the God of Destruction.

Beerus was still deep in slumber.

He breathed a small sigh of relief.

Heh heh heh…

That meant he'd be able to enjoy a delicious meal—all by himself!

Meanwhile, Gran had already finished cleaning and preparing the massive fish. He began crafting an entire full-fish banquet while quietly sensing the flow of his own energy.

Wait a second!

According to his memories, he was only supposed to have a power level of 800—a standard upper-class Saiyan.

But why… did that "mere 800" feel so strong right now?

Holding the kitchen tools, Gran frowned slightly. Excluding the time he'd spent unconscious, it had only been about half a day since he transmigrated into this world.

He didn't yet fully grasp how power levels worked here.

But… deep down, he really felt that if he went all out, he could blow up an entire planet!

Should I try it?

He turned his head slightly. By the lake, Whis was reclining lazily on a beach chair, half-asleep.

Alright, let's do this!

Gran faced the distant mountain range and, following the method stored in his memory, began to focus his energy.

Hummmm…

It was as if something was pumping through his veins—he could feel the power circulating all over his body.

Ooh… tingly… kinda feels good—wait, wrong channel!

His hands began to swell with energy, and suddenly, a bright orb of light appeared in his palm.

"This… this is a Kamehameha?!"

Gran's eyes lit up with excitement. As a child, he'd always dreamed of being able to form an energy blast just like in the anime!

Now, that dream had come true!

"Go!"

Still clutching a spatula in his left hand, Gran swung his right arm forward and launched the energy ball toward the mountains.

In an instant

BOOOOM!!!

A deafening explosion shook the horizon!

When the dust finally cleared, the mountain range remained perfectly intact.

He blinked.

Well, that's fair. This is the Realm of the God of Destruction, after all…

Still

"Why do I feel like my power level isn't just 800?"

As Gran stared blankly at the mountains, Whis' eyes flickered open from his spot by the lake.

He had seen everything Gran just did—but chose not to interfere.

By his estimation, the boy's power had increased two hundredfold.

The reason? His dimensional ascension.

Of course, there was another factor as well: his Saiyan physiology.

Every time a Saiyan brushes with death, their potential surges dramatically.

Whis had only realized this after healing Gran's injuries earlier.

To think the Saiyan race possessed such an incredible talent… no wonder Beerus had once ordered Frieza to destroy them—it was a pity, really.

Still, Whis had no intention of meddling.

As an Angel, he did not intervene in the affairs of the universe.

He glanced at Gran again—the boy's puzzled little face was almost comical.

So, he doesn't even realize what he's become… best to keep watching for now.

With that, Whis calmly closed his eyes once more.

"Strange… can 800 power level really be this strong?"

Gran peeked over his shoulder again. Whis didn't seem to have noticed—or cared—that he'd just launched an energy blast.

"Whew… that's a relief."

Exhaling softly, he turned back to the food and continued his cooking.

He fried, stir-fried, deep-fried, grilled—unleashing every culinary technique he knew.

He was only six years old, but his skill and confidence in the kitchen shone through every motion.

As time passed, a mouthwatering aroma began to drift across the Realm of Destruction.

"What… is that smell?!"

Whis suddenly sat up straight from his lounge chair, nose twitching uncontrollably.

"So fragrant!!!"

He swallowed hard, his composure shattering. In all his long existence, he had never smelled anything so intoxicating!

If it smelled this good, then once he actually tasted it… wouldn't it be divine?

So the kid wasn't lying after all—he really did have "the most delicious food in the universe"!

"This is bad… the longer I smell it, the hungrier I get!"

Whis had tried to maintain his usual calm, elegant image—the kind of serenity that wouldn't waver even if Mount Tai collapsed in front of him.

But right now…

He couldn't hold back anymore.

With a flash of seven-colored light, Whis vanished from the beach chair and appeared beside Gran in an instant.

In front of them stood a simple cooking station, completely covered with dishes

Steamed fish.

Braised fish.

Sweet-and-sour fish.

Spicy boiled fish…

Even dishes made from fish bones, fish skin, and fish organs.

Every single plate was a perfect harmony of color, aroma, and flavor.

Gulp!

Whis couldn't stop himself from swallowing. His elegant self-control was collapsing fast.

"There's just one dish left—almost done!" Gran said, carefully slicing the remaining ingredients.

The last dish was a fish sashimi, thinly cut and meticulously arranged.

Its method wasn't all that different from the traditional Japanese version, but as part of his full-fish banquet, he included it anyway.

And the moment he set the sashimi plate down

Whis moved.

The instant the first bite entered his mouth, an explosion of flavor hit his taste buds. His entire body trembled in bliss.

"The knife work… impeccable. The timing… perfect. The flavor… divine!"

"Damn it, why is it that even with the same ingredients, your food tastes a hundred times better?!"

"Oh my… the person who invented these cooking techniques must've been a genius…"

"Now what do I do? After eating this, how am I supposed to go back to the slop I used to eat?"

Whis was completely lost in the world of culinary ecstasy, savoring every dish one by one

except for the sashimi.

He'd eaten enough of that before. In fact, just the sight of it now made him lose interest entirely.

Gran watched him, smiling in satisfaction.

Alright, this should do it. If I've captured his stomach, I've got a shot at learning Ultra Instinct!

Seeing Whis enjoy himself so much, Gran couldn't resist joining in.

He was a Saiyan after all—and after starving for three days, he felt like he could eat an entire cow.

Soon, the two of them were devouring the banquet together, the sounds of clinking dishes echoing across the lake.

Two hours later, Whis finally leaned back, satisfied.

He pulled out a napkin and delicately wiped the oil from his lips, regaining his usual elegance.

Gran, meanwhile, was only about sixty percent full.

For a Saiyan, that fish was barely enough—two more of that size might've done it.

"Mr. Whis," Gran asked, tilting his head, eyes wide and innocent, "does my cooking deserve the title of 'the most delicious food in the universe'?"

Whis lowered his gaze, speechless for a moment.

He had never eaten anything so exquisite in his entire existence.

It truly did deserve the title.

But seeing the smug little grin on the boy's face, he felt oddly reluctant to admit it.

In the end, Whis sighed and nodded. "It does."

"Huh?"

Gran blinked in surprise. He hadn't expected Whis to actually agree.

Catching the boy's expression, Whis smirked faintly. "What? Did you think I'd be too proud to admit it?"

Gran scratched his head with an awkward laugh, wisely choosing not to tease further. After all, he did want Whis to train him later.

Whis' tone softened. "You've truly created dishes unlike anything I've ever tasted. Their fragrance and flavor are extraordinary. I'd say saving your life was worth it after all."

"Once again, thank you for rescuing me, Mr. Whis."

Gran bowed deeply. He owed this man his life—no number of thanks would ever be enough.

Whis waved a hand dismissively. "That's enough."

The two of them fell into a peaceful silence, basking in the calm after their feast. The Realm of Destruction was tranquil once more.

After a while, Gran spoke softly. "Mr. Whis…"

He figured it was time.

He didn't belong to this world, and if he didn't ask now, he might soon be sent away.

Seeing the boy hesitate, Whis tilted his head slightly, already guessing his thoughts.

Gran bowed respectfully. "Mr. Whis, may I ask you to guide me in training?"
