Ren woke up late that morning. He had always been an early riser. He walked towards his curtains and spread them wide apart. He had called his assistant Saki, to inform her that he wouldn't report to work that day. He was still rehearsing his reply to the email. He had sent his response in his head.
Ren rarely had days off, he had no friends and no close relationship with his cousins or distant relations.
His bedroom was a mess and it would take at least two hours to get it clean and sparkling. He usually called a cleaning agency but today was one of the days he wanted to clean. Ren always believed that cleaning was a kind of therapy. This day was his therapy day.
He got up and started putting things in order. The thought of food came to his mind. His tummy was grumbling. He picked his phone and placed an order from a Michin restaurant. He loved their services, they always brought the right order and it was always warm. He had ordered a cereal smoothie, a tiramisu cake, chicken jollof rice with vegetable salad.
Ren never imagined that he would live alone. Ren never had friends. His first friend was Yuu.
He remembered how Yuu would bake for him. He could pass as a five star chef. Ren initially wondered how Yuu could cook very well at such a young age . Yuu told him that his parents wanted him to learn basic survival skills. He was also highly influenced by his mom. His mother loved cooking and since she had no daughter, she taught her recipes to Yuu.
Do you know my mom plays dress up with me? She dresses me like a princess. Yuu once told Ren . Yuu broke the rich man's child's protocol. He wasn't snubbish or rude. He could survive anywhere , even in horrible living conditions. This was evident during the time they spent in Hanuel Quarter , Ren's former residence.
" Mr Takahashi called in, he has drafted out the contract." Saki said as Ren answered the phone.
" Okay" he said in a swift voice. " He sent Mr Yuu over, he is here waiting." Saki said. Yuu was sitting in the waiting area . He was wearing an ash sweater on a black pair of pants. He was not dressed formally. He had been called on short notice and he rushed to the Foundation. The contract only needed his signature but he decided to deliver the contract himself. Maybe he wanted to take another look at his Ren.
" I told him you are here," she said as she walked towards Yuu. " He asked us to get the contract , he has an off day today." " The contract would be signed and a copy would be delivered to your office." Saki said. He wanted to see Ren for no particular reason. " Can I have his house address?" Yuu asked.
Saki thought for a while and without asking questions she wrote down his residential address on a paper and handed it to him. Yuu picked up the file and headed to the lobby.
Mirendale Heights was a place he knew , so it wasn't difficult to locate Ren's apartment. It was a forty minute drive from his firm.
The house had a Ren vibe. The secluded spot and high rise apartment was so Ren-like. He approached the door hastily and paused for some time before ringing the doorbell.
Ren was about to pick up Saki's call when he heard the doorbell ring. He dismissed her call thinking it was the delivery service. Ren still took precautions. He checked the door before opening it. He felt excited and confused too.
He opened the door to a fine Yuu waiting. He glanced at him briefly before letting him in.
" How did you find my house?" He asked.
" You can make yourself comfortable," he added.
He was cleaning his kitchen cabinet. Yuu looked around . His interior decoration was what he had imagined. Yuu decided to go into the kitchen. He rested his body on the kitchen counter.
Ren looked at him properly for the first time since they met. He noticed that he wasn't dressed formally and he had a different hairdo. He styled his hair into a messy mid level man ponytail. He was wearing two rings on his left fingers, one on his thumb, the other on his index. He looked breathtaking.
" Why are you looking at me?" Yuu asked, jolting Ren out of his thoughts. Ren thought for some time. Yuu was still possessive, he had come into his house unannounced and now was questioning him . Such audacity.
" Saki told me you are on some kind of leave, I brought the contract , it needs your signature. I left in your living room" Yuu said as Ren did not give him an answer to his prior question. " I didn't know you were interested in rings," Ren blurted out. " A new found love after these years" Yuu replied as he moved close to the coffee maker to get himself a cup. He reached out to get a mug,Ren also reached out his hand for a mug seeing that Yuu wanted to get coffee.
Their hands touched, and no one moved away. Yuu turned and faced Ren. Their faces inches away. It's like they forget to breathe . Ren moved his hand to Yuu's lips and gave them a gentle touch.
Their lips began to move towards each other. Yuu closed his eyes anticipating a kiss and just then, the doorbell rang. A sudden realization hit Ren and he instantly pulled away.
" I am sorry, this shouldn't have happened" Ren managed to say as he headed to the door. The delivery service brought his order.
" The contract is on the couch, you can send it to the foundation when you are done with it." Yuu said as he headed to the door. " Nice decor by the way" he added as he opened the door.
Ren wanted to say something but decided not to as he watched Yuu leave.
Yuu sat in his car dumbfounded. What had just happened? He liked whatever was wrong with Ren and wished he had gotten that kiss.
