Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Within the grounds of Tracen Academy, there are dormitories located at both the eastern and western ends where the students live.

On the eastern side—meaning the east end of the campus—stands the Miho Dorm.

On the western end lies the Ritto Dorm.

This is probably because their names come from their real-life inspirations: the Miho Training Center and the Ritto Training Center, which are geographically divided east and west in Japan.

If I remember correctly, the Miho Training Center is in Ibaraki Prefecture, and the Ritto Training Center is in Shiga Prefecture.

That east-west division must've been reflected here intentionally… but honestly, am I the only one who thinks it would be really inconvenient to live like that?

Well, in both the anime and the game, I don't think they ever explained the exact locations of the dorms, so whether this setup is what Cygames actually intended—I have no way to confirm anymore.

Right now, I'm hurrying toward the Miho Dorm on the east side.

Back when I hadn't regained my memories, I accepted the dorm assignment written in the entrance guide without any second thoughts.

But after remembering my past life, it started to raise some serious questions.

Because in the original story, Nice Nature lived in the Ritto Dorm.

And in the original-original—her real-life racehorse days—Nice Nature was stabled at the Ritto Training Center too.

She has absolutely no connection to either Miho Dorm or the Miho Training Center.

The fact that things are already diverging from what I know fills me with anxiety, but after boldly declaring all that to Ten Point earlier, I can't exactly back down now.

More than that, I don't want to let myself back down.

Meeting Ten Point confirmed for me that this world isn't the app version.

Even if it's the anime version or something close to it, it doesn't matter anymore.

All I can do now is chase my dream head-on.

By the time I finally spotted the entrance to Miho Dorm, the sky had already gone completely dark.

"Guess I'm gonna get scolded for this, huh…"

I gave a sheepish little laugh and stepped inside—only to find one girl standing there waiting.

"You're late. I've been waiting for you, Nice Nature."

"Ah—! I'm so sorry! Something came up and I ended up being late!"

"There's still time before curfew, but honestly, it's not good to be late on your first day, you know?

Well, I already heard the situation from Ten Point, so it's fine. Don't worry, okay?"

The girl speaking wore a light green apron over her uniform, and had bay-colored hair.

If I had to describe her, she looked exactly like Fujikiseki, but with a bit more refinement.

She smiled softly and patted my head.

That slightly "cool and dashing" vibe of hers combined with the gentle gesture suited her perfectly.

The apron added this unexpectedly domestic, comforting warmth to her aura—it was… charming, honestly.

"Oh right, I haven't introduced myself yet.

My name's Monte prince.

I'm the dorm leader here at Miho Dorm, so if you ever need anything, come talk to me anytime."

Cough!

Since Ten Point was around, I had a hunch that the dorm leader probably wouldn't be Hishi Amazon like in the original…

But I didn't expect Monte Prince of all horses to be the dorm leader!

"Monte prince, The sun prince."

After the TTG trio retired, he was one of the horses who supported the central racing scene until Mr. C.B. and Symboli Rudolf arrived.

Out of 24 races, he had 7 wins, including 5 major stakes victories and 2 G1 titles.

Though not as famous as the superstar horses like Mr. C.B. or Rudolf, he was still an exceptional racer who won both the Tenno Sho (Spring) and the Takarazuka Kinen.

His nickname, "The Sun Prince," came from the fact that he was terrible on muddy tracks due to the shape of his hooves—he could only truly shine under the clear sun.

Before his G1 wins, he was also called "The Uncrowned King."

Just hearing that sounds like the name of a rival in a shonen manga.

Seriously though—Tracen Academy is insane.

Everywhere I turn, I run into legendary racehorses.

Even someone who barely knows horse racing could look up their names and immediately find records of their greatness.

It's enough to give me a mild heart attack.

"P-pleased to meet you, Monte Prince-san."

"You're a little stiff, but that's fine for today.

Come on, I'll take you to your room.

I already told your roommate you'd be late, but I'm sure she's worried."

As she called me to follow, heading toward the stairs, I hurried after her, wondering what kind of roommate I'd have.

Who could it be? I was honestly excited.

Though… if my roommate's another famous racehorse, I kind of hope she's not too famous, if you know what I mean.

"Oh, by the way, Ten Point said she really liked you.

She told me she wants to have tea with you again sometime!

That's rare, you know? She almost never praises anyone!"

"I–I didn't know that…"

"Really? When I asked her what you two talked about, she just said, 'I merely spoke of dreams,' and wouldn't say anything else.

But that's fine—forcing someone to talk about their dreams isn't really my style anyway."

Monte Prince chuckled as she spoke.

I just nodded along, secretly happy that Ten Point thought so well of me.

Maybe I should stop by the student council tomorrow.

I bet she'd like it if I brought some sweets from the school store too.

"By the way, Monte Prince-san—what kind of person is my roommate? Is she in the same grade as me?"

"No, she's actually one year above you—a second-year in middle division.

Her roommate left school right before the new term started, so we had to make some adjustments.

Normally, we pair students of the same grade together, but this time, because of the numbers, we had to put you with a senior. Sorry about that."

So my roommate's a senior, huh?

Apparently her old roommate quit before the new term began.

Wait… does that mean my new roommate is difficult to deal with or something?

What if she's the hot-tempered type like the Stay Gold family?

I mean seriously—how do you live with someone like Orfevre or Gold ship without losing your mind?

Still, after everything I'd been through today—Ten Point, Monte Prince, and now being in Miho Dorm instead of Ritto—I'd developed a bit of resistance to surprises.

I'm mentally older anyway, so I should be fine.

In fact, forget what I said about wanting a "low-profile" roommate—bring it on.

"Alright, here we are. This is your room, Nice Nature.

Did you memorize the way here?

It's a simple layout, but the dorm's huge, so don't get lost, okay?"

The room Monte Prince led me to was on the fourth floor, a corner room.

The dorm itself was as big as a public high school building—no wonder it was easy to get lost.

The Central Tracen Academy really spared no expense, huh?

"It's Monte Prince. I've brought your new roommate."

"Coming!"

After a light knock, Monte Prince called out, and a voice answered from inside.

That voice—

I knew that voice.

I'd heard it so many times during Nice Nature's training in the game.

With the click of the lock, the door opened.

There stood a girl with beautiful bay hair, black-tipped bangs, and a distinct white blaze down her face.

She looked a little younger than the version I remembered, but there was no mistaking her.

"Let me introduce you.

This is our new student, your new roommate—Nice Nature.

Nice Nature, this is your senior and new roommate—Symboli Rudolf.

Please get along."

Inhale… exhale… okay.

MY ROOMATE IS SYMBOLI RUDOLF , THE EMPEROR HERSELF!?WHY!? HOW!?
