Chapter 14 - CHAPTER 14: NICE TRY

The fifth richest family in the country, cousins to the Cabrera family of Port, placed Helena McCauley in direct relation to Wycliffe Cabrera.

Helen beamed as she received a call from the man of her heart. She quickly went upstairs to talk.

"Hey, honey…" Edward's voice came through.

"Hey…" Helen smiled. "You won that contract, and my cousin can't stop calling me and telling me about such a prestigious, winning family. Wycliffe is thrilled!"

"Are you not?" Edward asked her.

"I am. I'm sorry I couldn't be there to watch you win. Wycliffe was whining about how long we've stayed without visiting, so Dad thought it was a good idea to drop by Port," she explained.

"You were in Port? You didn't tell me that." Edward said.

"I know, I didn't plan for that, I promise." Helen coaxed. "Dad just ordered a helicopter and boom, I was in Port and at the Cabrera castle. You know how dad is."

"That's okay," Edward nodded. "Dad coming meant a lot."

"I heard you're planning a party too. You should send me a golden invitation I'll be there!" Helen said with a smile. "And maybe, a few of celebrities rom Artic films?"

"I will, for sure!" Edward replied happily. "Time for me to pack and leave the office. Talk when I'm home."

"talk later. I was just putting in a call to Wycliffe because he told me he would be visiting you guys soon." She said calmly. "See you!"

The call ended. Mr. McCauley walked over to the balcony. The breeze brushed past them as they stood silently, watching the vehicles below.

"He's such a great guy. You should spend more time with him," her father suggested.

"Dad, I've been busy lately, but I explained everything to him. He understands. You know I have my responsibilities too!" Helen replied. She was an actress at Artic Films and a popular figure in magazines and fashion shows. She first befriended Bianca when Bianca was learning to navigate their world. Bianca was mostly a fashion model; Helen excelled in both modeling and acting.

"But you're free, right? Maybe drop by," her father encouraged.

"Told him I will attend his weekend party. They are about signing a contract with the Ranveer and it's just going to be so great for us!" Helen smiled sweetly

"I know, baby," her father nodded. "About Wycliffe, he said he'll drop by to check on Bianca. It seems she's been avoiding him."

"Dad, the entertainment and fashion world keeps everyone busy. She isn't avoiding him... she's just busy. She recently signed with THE LADY magazine, and I wouldn't blame her for being swamped," Helen explained seriously. "Dad, Bianca is busy, trust me. And now that she signed a contract, I'm sure she will have to stick around for a while longer. That means, if Wycliffe is planning to take her to Port, it won't be that easy for him."

Her father nodded. "You're doing well, Helen. If you talk to Wycliffe, he'll be less restless. That poor boy, his father is going to therapy because of him!"

"Uncle Cabrera is in therapy because of Wycliffe? What did he do?" Helen asked.

"He wants an heir and would have preferred someone from Port. But Wycliffe is so focused on Bianca," her father said.

"Can you blame him? Matters of the heart are complicated. I'll speak to Uncle Cabrera when I travel to Port, which will be soon. the upcoming movie has scenes that need to be shot there," Helen said with a laugh. "He shouldn't worry. What's the hurry? Wycliffe isn't even thirty yet!"

"Port does have the best environment for that," her father agreed. "And, there is no rule that say people only have kids at thirty."

"I meant, he still has time. I don't think Uncle Cabrera should be burning up on that." Helen said before turning back.

"Let's go for evening tea. Maria has been watching us anxiously! Mama will have a heart attack if we don't respond. sometimes we don't even see her!" Helen said, dragging her father along. Mr. McCauley laughed as they headed down.

Meanwhile, Elara had just ordered takeaway and was about to leave when she bumped into someone. She frowned.

"Umm… ah, what's the hurry?" Daniel stopped before her with a smirk.

"Huh!" Elara scoffed, glaring at him.

"You've been ignoring all my emails… and girl, you've leveled up... a solid 10 over 10 now!" he said with a sly grin. "Let's talk!"

Elara knew better than to cause a scene in a crowded restaurant. She followed him and sat opposite.

"You should order something," Daniel suggested sweetly.

Elara looked at the waiter. "Coffee. Hot."

"You haven't changed a bit. You used to order coffee this way when we went out," he said, turning to the waiter. "Give her what she likes, black."

"You remembered that?" Elara said with a wicked smile. "Wait… my sister isn't being a good girlfriend, is she?"

"Stop that. You were thrilling, you know!" Daniel said sincerely.

"I am," Elara nodded, taking the coffee from the waiter. "So, tell me, why are you so desperate to find me?"

"Let's talk about us first," he said, sipping his coffee. "We used to be perfect together. Imagine a wedding card with both our names! That would've been great."

Elara burst out laughing. "Ooh, come on. Surely you didn't call me here to imagine a wedding! Let me guess, you're still bitter the Monroe family won that prestigious contract?"

"Anyone would be!" he admitted.

"So, let's talk about that, then," she said, sipping her coffee.

"Well… you could be my inside eye at Orion," he offered.

"Nice try…" Elara scoffed.

"I'll pay you double what he pays," Daniel insisted, placing his cup down. "This offer doesn't come twice, Elara."

"I wouldn't want it to come even once," she snapped. "Your offer is tempting, but I'd rather hand your information over to Edward Monroe than give Edward's to you. So… fuck off!" She grabbed her takeaway bag and stormed out.
