Chapter 8 - The Promise and the Experiment

"Burp~ So full~"

Mikoto Uchiha and Kushina Uzumaki both rubbed their rounded stomachs and let out a simultaneous burp.

Their appetites weren't small, but Yuzuru's was bigger. One meal's worth of portions was enough to stuff the both of them.

"Here, have some water."

Yuzuru poured each of them a cup of plain water, then turned and headed for the yard.

Kushina and Mikoto traded a look and got up to follow.

Watching Yuzuru turn the soil, Kushina asked, curious, "Yuzuru, what are you doing?"

"With a yard this big, it feels like a waste not to grow something," he answered without looking up.

"I'm going to plant vegetables."

At that, both girls' faces lit with interest.

"Vegetables?"

"That actually sounds fun."

In the shinobi world, ninja didn't do production work.

Farming was for villagers outside the walls.

Mikoto was better off, occasionally getting to see farmland when patrolling with clan members outside the village.

Kushina was different; she was always restricted from leaving the village and knew almost nothing about such things.

"Yuzuru, I want to plant some too. Do I just bury the seeds in the ground?"

"Of course not."

"Then can you teach me? Yuzuru, I want to learn how to grow vegetables with you!"

"Uh… sure."

Mikoto took charge of buying seeds; Kushina and Yuzuru kept turning the earth.

After a morning of work, the three of them had only managed to create a small vegetable patch in the yard.

Wiping sweat from her brow, Kushina bounced with excitement. "Yuzuru, this is my first time planting anything. Help me take care of it, okay? I'll make time to come check on it often."

Yuzuru immediately nodded and agreed.

He had originally wanted to use contact with Kushina to force the Konoha higher-ups to intervene and issue a statement like "Uchiha are forbidden to approach the jinchuriki," so the clan could see how wary Sarutobi Hiruzen and the others truly were. Naturally, he wouldn't refuse her request.

With his promise, Kushina hopped in place. "Then it's a deal! I'll come find you tomorrow."

"Mikoto, let's go shopping!"

"Right—" tugged along by Kushina, Mikoto called back, "Yuzuru, Father says come to our house for dinner tonight."

"Got it."

Once they'd gone, Yuzuru shut the door, eyes brightening.

Finally, time to feel out his power properly.

Inside, he sat cross-legged and closed his eyes, examining the chakra within.

A quick check was enough to curve his lips.

The system's chakra rewards stacked.

After awakening his three-tomoe Sharingan, he already had jōnin-class chakra.

Then the system chests had granted him genin-, chūnin-, jōnin-, and Kage-class chakra in turn.

The genin and chūnin portions were negligible, but adding another jōnin on top of that and then a full Kage-class reserve made his chakra more than ample.

Adding to that the huge surge in chakra he received after activating the Mangekyō Sharingan…

Yuzuru felt that even among Kage-level experts, only jinchuriki with tailed beasts or shinobi with special constitutions like Hoshigaki Kisame would be able to surpass his chakra reserves.

After sensing the chakra in his body, Yuzuru immediately activated the Mangekyō Sharingan.

"Kamui."

Space around him twisted like a whirlpool, and his figure vanished.

"So this is the Kamui space?"

Unlike Obito's stone-pillar forest, his Kamui dimension stretched into flat ground as far as the eye could see.

It wasn't dark, either—bright as broad daylight.

What's more, gaining Kamui had given him a strange sense for space itself.

He could place a marker on any location or object, then warp to it in an instant by invoking Kamui.

The further the distance, the more chakra and Dōjutsu Power were consumed.

That part was a bit like the Flying Thunder God Technique.

After another look around, Yuzuru nodded, satisfied.

As things stood, his Kamui and Uchiha Obito's Kamui were not interconnected.

This was for the best.

He didn't want his territory to become a backyard that others could enter and exit at will.

After a moment's thought, he flashed through hand signs.

"Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!"

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"

"Water Release: Water Formation Wall!"

"Earth Release: Earth Flow Wall!"

He hadn't trained any Lightning Release, so he stopped after casting the other four.

Originally he'd had only wind and fire affinities. He could force out earth and water by shaping chakra, but it cost more and hit weaker.

With Five-Nature chakra, his combat power had jumped a tier.

Each element had its strengths and weaknesses. With all five, he could pick the right tool for any fight.

He didn't bother testing the Shuriken Throwing Technique or Uchiha-style Kenjutsu.

Those were taijutsu—one thought and he could feel the honed, effortless control in his limbs.

At this point he had almost no weak side—a true six-sided warrior.

He invoked Kamui again and reappeared in his room.

Standing, he walked for the door.

Though it was shut, he slipped through as if nothing blocked him and stepped into the yard.

Dōjutsu Power surged, and the wooden training post in the courtyard quietly snapped into two pieces.

He waited a beat before letting the Mangekyō fade.

"The speed of the long-range attack is very fast, and the limit for consecutive phasing can be maintained for about ten minutes…"

Murmuring to himself, Yuzuru rubbed his chin.

Although his Double Kamui made him slightly stronger than Uchiha Obito in the original work in terms of attack and transfer speed, he lacked Hashirama's cells, meaning he temporarily had no way to recover his Dōjutsu Power.

"It looks like there's still a lot of work to be done…"
