Claudia pulled back slightly, cupping his face between her hands. Her thumbs brushed over his cheekbones. "It's completely fine," she said. "That's motherhood anyway. It's what we do. Would you like something to eat? Drink? You must be famished."
"I'll have dinner," he said. "Blood sausages precisely." He bent and pressed a kiss into her hair again, lips lingering against the crown of her head.
"Of course," she said gently. The affection was a bit too much. It was not that Eric never embraced her. He did. But this felt like he was making up for lost time or some kind of finality. "Will you tell me what happened to you?" she asked. "Delilah seems to think Sera must have done something to you. We had to tell the elders she was pregnant. If not, they would have had her in custody for questioning."
"And they would have died if anyone touched a hair on her head," Ravok said simply.
