Chapter 27 - Episode 27

INT. FREIGHT NIGHT FAIR GROUNDS - NIGHT. OCTOBER 31, 2025, 10:30 P.M.

Gabriel moved quickly towards Blake's fallen body, careful not to move too fast and slip in the pool of blood on the ground. As soon as he approached Blake's body he inspected it to see what injuries he could notice. Gabriel did take note that Blake's breathing came in shallow gasps, which means his ribs were probably broken in some way. Blake's left eye was swollen shut his jacket, already showing wear from the last week of fighting, lay in tatters, and claw marks covered his skin. Blake's blood that was dripping from his injuries mixed with the blood that was already on the ground. "Geez, who the fuck did this to you?" Gabriel whispered, grimacing at all the different injuries.

"Good riddance to a bad seed," Nadia replied, leaning close to Gabriel's ear to stare down at Blake. Gabriel glared at her, and Nadia quickly held her hands up waving them sporadically. "It's not like I want anything to happen to him, he's just, you know… I think I'll shut up now."

Gabriel narrowed his eyes, then chuckled. "I was just fucking with you. He's not dead at all, but whoever he fought certainly kicked his ass."

Nadia let out a huge sigh, her shoulders slumping in relief. "You gotta work on making jokes, man."

"Meh, I'm learning," he shrugged, taking the advice in stride. Gabriel heard Nadia snort but she did not reply. The energy he usually felt coursing through his body felt low,it was hard to put into words. The best example he could give it is as if he had just completed an exhausting weightlifting session. This is the closest equivalent he could give for his muscles feeling right now.

Gabriel knew he had to heal Blake now before he would get worse.. He focused on his hand, calling up the familiar white energy.. He shaped the light in his hand into a ball that floated above his palm. Switching his focus from palm to his index finger, Gabriel directed the ball to hover and circle around Blake's body. He decided this was a smarter way to heal him than kneeling and getting blood all over himself.

"Can I just say your powers are so fucking amazing?" Nadia gushed. She moved to the opposite side of Blake's body, directly across from Gabriel.

Gabriel felt his cheeks heating up. The ball he controlled turned a light pink before reverting to white. "I think what you can do is cooler. Moving fast enough to dodge that giant skeleton was kind of amazing."

Nadia crossed her arms, nodding in agreement. "I am pretty amazing, aren't I?" she commented, her tone full of pride. "By the way, I notice a different color will flash around you occasionally. Why is that?"

Gabriel cocked his head to the side, debating how to answer. "I don't know all the effects yet, but each color offers a different aspect to how my powers work. White is neutral, so it has no real aspects, though I can heal with it."

"So when it flashes pink, does that mean you think I'm pretty?" Nadia teased, her eyes shining as she looked at Gabriel.

Gabriel let out a small sigh of relief, grateful for Blake's gruff voice interrupting their conversation. "Ugh, can you guys stop with all the sickening lovely-dovey shit, making me wish I would've stayed knocked out damn.", Blake complained.

"What's making is seekening is seeing how often you've been getting your ass kicked," Nadia argued back, her tone venomous as she glared down at him.

Blake let out a loud groan as he started to sit up. "Yeah, well, you should see how the other guy looks," he refuted, finally making it into an upright position. Gabriel watched Blake's head look side to side before looking down where he was sitting. "Please tell me this is water laced with red dye."

Nadia smirked, adding an evil look to her expression as she stared down at Blake. "Only if the red dye was blood."

"Ugh, what the fuck! Why is there so much blood everywhere!" Blake screamed, jumping to his feet. "I hope I don't get a damn disease from this!"

Gabriel stepped forward, grabbing Blake's elbow to steady him as he tried to stand straight. "Take it easy. I didn't have enough energy to heal you fully."

Blake shrugged him off, opting to stretch on his own. "My ribs were the major problem, to be honest. You did a good job healing those," he praised, his Boston accent sounding stronger than usual.

Nadia walked forward, small splashing sounds heard as she stepped next to Blake. "So, who the fuck almost put you in another body bag? Because this is the third time I've seen your body messed up like this."

"Right, that'd be me," a small, cocky voice said from behind them.

Gabriel saw Blake's face pale. The group quickly turned around. To Gabriel's shock, they faced a six-foot-seven monster with a long tail and giant, bat-like wings. "Comme on now, don't everyone speak at once," the man mocked, his voice deep, almost ethereal.

Gabriel was shocked as he watched Blake step forward, a light coming from his wrist before a shield appeared. To Gabriel, the shield felt like a huge source of energy; the fatigue he felt disappeared, and he felt like he had just drunk four cans of Red Bull from the energy he started absorbing from the shield. His eyes stayed fixed on the shield, which called to him like an old friend.

"So, are we just going to pretend like he didn't just summon a huge shield from an old ass watch?" Nadia whispered to Gabriel, getting close to him and breaking the trance he was in.

Gabriel shook his head, ignoring the shield's call. Instead, he looked down at Nadia, wanting to address what she had just said. "I think he said something to me about it being a holy relic or something? I don't recall; I did take notes on it, though they're back in my car."

Nadia slapped her head with her right hand. "Sigh. Maybe having all those notes would have helped. Luckily, I know about holy relics. It's crazy to think that he of all people is worthy of having one," she commented.

Blake held up his finger as if telling the monster to wait one minute, then turned around. "Can you two knuckleheads please get serious?" he chastised, his voice harsh.

"Yes, sir!" Gabriel and Nadia said at the same time.

A purple aura formed around Nadia as she took her usual fighting stance. Gabriel just stood back, a small white light coming off his body, similar to Nadia's purple. "Thank you, a bunch of fucking morons, I swear," Blake muttered under his breath before turning toward the monster once again.

The monster cocked his head to the side, straightening up as he saw the group getting serious. "You guys already have final words and all that shit before we start?"

Nadia and Gabriel shared a look. "Nah, I think we're good," she answered before looking back at the monster. Gabriel nodded in agreement.

"A bunch of idiots, I swear," Blake growled under his breath before glancing at the monster, his gaze turning serious. "Time for round four, aye, Evan."

The monster, now named Evan, shrugged. "Not going to be much of a round seeing how easy I beat you before," he responded.

"Damn," Gabriel mouthed to Nadia, who giggled in response.

Gabriel saw the look of annoyance on Blake's face before Blake took off running, charging at Evan. "Should've killed me when you had the first chance," Blake shouted at Evan.

Evan looked bored. With his hands behind his back, he stared at Blake running toward him. "WOOOOOO, LET'S GO!" Nadia shouted, her purple growing darker before she took off running behind Blake.

Blake reached Evan first, throwing a hook with his right hand that hit the shield against Evan's chest. Evan was too tall for Blake to aim at his head. Evan did not move; he used his tail to counter, slapping Blake's shield. The sudden weight forced Blake to stumble forward. Nadia used the opportunity to roll across Blake's back and used both feet to kick Evan in the chest. Evan stumbled back, shocked that Nadia had the strength to even hurt him. Nadia did not stop after the kick; she rolled forward, got back to her feet, and got close to Evan again. She did a flying knee, jumping high enough to hit him in the face. Evan quickly blocked the attack, a small shockwave coming from the strength of her attack. Nadia grunted before using Evan's arms as a stepping block, flipping and landing on her feet.

"HOLY SHIT, ROOK!" Blake shouted, turning to look at Gabriel. "I didn't know your girlfriend could fight like that, because wow."

Gabriel's face turned hot, his aura turning red as he glared at Blake. "Can you focus on the fight, please? And she's not my girlfriend!"

Blake shrugged. "Yeah, yeah, whatever," turning back toward Evan.

Gabriel looked annoyed, deciding it was better to just ignore it. He crossed his arms; a heavy amount of white light started to appear before he lowered them. Holding up his right hand, a giant white light appeared. He let the ball float in front of himself, and a humanoid person started to take shape. When the light faded, a muscular humanoid person stood in front of Gabriel. The face was a bird's, and the creation wore silver and white armor, with two wings, two legs, and two arms. Overall, it looked like a bird person who was taller than Gabriel. The creation tilted its head at Gabriel before nodding and quickly heading off to where the others were. "Fuck, that took a lot out of me," he thought to himself, sweat pouring down his forehead as he started to breathe heavily.

Nadia, after landing on the ground, charged back by throwing a hook at Evan's body. Evan quickly blocked the attack with his tail, his hands still behind his back. While Evan held back Nadia's attack, Blake used this time to throw his shield at Evan's head. Evan, not even looking, caught the shield with his hand. Blake looked on in shock as it did not burn Evan. The shield disappeared from Evan's hand after a couple of seconds. Evan quickly had to defend himself, using his tail to block or parry each attack as Nadia started throwing multiple punches.

"Your tail is so fucking annoying!" she grunted, doing a leg sweep that Evan stepped back from. Using the momentum from the spin, she launched a roundhouse kick aimed at Evan's stomach. Nadia, her back toward Evan, did a quick side kick that Evan caught with his right hand.

Evan smirked, feeling Nadia struggle to move her leg. "Impressive for a human, very impressive."

"Tch, this human's going to kick your ugly-looking ass!" Nadia responded, glaring at him as he held her leg in his hand.

Loud splashing could be heard as heavy footsteps started running toward Nadia and Even. "Don't forget about me, you fucker," Blake shouted. He did a spin before launching his shield at Evan's face. The shield went flying above Nadia, quickly striking Evan in the chest. The force of the attack made Evan stumble back and release her leg from his hand.

Nadia quickly caught the shield, smoke seemingly coming from her hand where Gabriel was standing. Rolling forwards, blood kicked up into the air and got all over her clothes. "Ugh, fucking gross!" she whined as she caught Evan, who stumbled back, dazed. Nadia threw the shield, which Evan knocked in the air with his tail. She did not stop running, leaping in the air and doing a spin kick aimed at his head. While she was in the air, Blake caught the shield, turning it once again into two gauntlets with sharpened ends. Blake made a stab toward Evan's stomach. Evan growled, catching Nadia's kick with his hand and Blake's stab with his fist.

"You guys are nothing but fucking pests," he roared before throwing Nadia at Blake, sending them both rolling backward on the ground. Evan flew up in the air before launching himself at both of them on the ground.

A white shield formed at the last second, protecting the two of them and reversing Evan's full-blown attack back at him. Evan's body froze for a second on the shield before flying backward. BOOM! Evan's monster body stopped on a tall roller coaster, and the metal fell down on him.
