Chapter 20: The First D-Rank Summoning Beast
[Wind-Nature Chakra]+[Goshawk]= ???
[Compatibility]100%
[Material: Wind-Nature Chakra, Quality (Green)]
[Creature: Goshawk, Rank (D)]
[Synthesis Success Rate]150%
[Chakra Required]200
[Synthesize?]
[System Prompt: Due to the extremely high compatibility between the material and the creature, and the matching quality of the material to the creature's rank, there is a high probability that this synthesis will result in a higher-level evolution.]
Seeing this, Kael's face lit up with excitement. He immediately selected [Confirm Synthesis].
[Warning: You are about to consume 200 points of Chakra.]
[System has detected insufficient Chakra. This synthesis will consume all available Chakra, then automatically deduct Life Force for the remaining energy requirement.]
[Synthesizing, please wait...]
It's only fifty points of life force, Kael thought, gritting his teeth. I'll just stay home and eat well for the next few days. I'm on break anyway...
He then turned his attention to the goshawk on the floor. As the wind-nature chakra in his left palm vanished, the half-meter-tall bird was enveloped in a swirling ball of wind. He could see the tearing force of the vortex growing stronger by the second.
A cyclone began to form in the room with the goshawk at its center. The vortex grew larger and larger, and the surrounding tables and chairs began to vibrate and slide, threatening to be sucked in. Kael started to panic. He watched as the aura around the hawk in the center of the storm grew more and more formidable, a mix of shock and delight on his face.
"My first time using a green-quality material to synthesize a D-rank creature... I really miscalculated!" he thought anxiously. He couldn't let this thing destroy his house! It belonged to the village, not him. And after the synthesis, the goshawk's size would definitely change; his small room wouldn't be able to fit such a large bird.
Just as he was about to step in, the very center of the vortex suddenly went still. The books, clothes, and other miscellaneous items that had been swept up into the air all came spinning and fluttering back down to the ground.
But a brilliant white light began to shine from within the room, rapidly expanding.
CRACK!
A look of pure agony crossed Kael's face as he watched his roof get torn open.
"Hah..." He let out a heavy sigh, but a smile still graced his lips. Judging by the commotion, he had gotten the flying Summoning Beast he wanted. A hole in the roof could be fixed, but a summon that could carry him through the sky was hard to come by.
[Summoning Beast: Wind Eagle]
Rank: D+
Species: Accipitridae Bird
Attribute: Wind
Abilities:
Mach Dash: The Wind Eagle can use the wind-nature chakra in its body to massively increase its flight speed in an instant. The speed increase is dependent on its control over the wind element, and the duration of the ability is dependent on its chakra reserves.
Wind Blade: Spits a large wind blade from its mouth to attack an opponent.
Bursting Spiral Sphere: The Wind Eagle condenses the chakra in its body to the absolute limit, then spits out a high-speed, rotating ball of explosive wind, capable of dealing devastating damage to an opponent.
System Evaluation: Modified by wind-nature chakra, the Wind Eagle has become a rare Ninja Beast in the Shinobi World capable of using chakra. With the right opportunities, it even has the potential for automatic evolution!
"Holy... crap!"
Kael's eyes lit up as he stared at the Wind Eagle, which now filled almost his entire living room.
"I can't believe it! With 100% compatibility and matching material and creature ranks, the 150% success rate actually resulted in a D+ rank!"
"My god, three active skills! This is what you get from a D+ rank, I guess. And the system evaluation says it can continue to grow! It's a growth-type summon! This was a massive win!"
His breathing grew ragged as he read through the three active skills. Even by his initial estimation, the Wind Eagle's combat power was no less than that of an elite Chunin. And with its ability to fly, it would be an incredibly difficult opponent to deal with.
Kael strained his neck to look up but could only see the lower half of its bucket-thick neck.
He cursed under his breath. "Stupid bird! Don't you know how to lower your head?"
"Chirp, chirp, chirp! The noble Eagle King never bows his head!"
"What the hell?" Kael couldn't take it anymore. He yelled and launched a flying kick at the Wind Eagle's massive leg.
"Hiss... Ow, damn it!"
It felt like kicking a block of iron. A sharp, piercing pain shot through his foot, which quickly went numb. He then remembered that he had lost fifty points of life force during the synthesis, and his body was currently in a weakened state.
Looking at the unmoving Wind Eagle with its head stuck in the ceiling, Kael felt a real headache coming on. In his excitement, he had completely forgotten he was still in his room. Now his new summon was so big it had broken his house.
After hiring someone to patch up the roof and adding two meters to the height of his courtyard walls, Kael decided to keep the Wind Eagle in the yard for the time being, only allowing it to go out at night to hunt and fly in the forest outside the village. The creature was simply too large to let it roam freely in the village; it would undoubtedly scare the ordinary villagers.
For the first time since coming to this world, Kael finally felt a sense of security. The appearance of the D+ rank Wind Eagle gave him the confidence to face a Chunin, or even a Jonin. If he couldn't win, he could at least run away.
By his own estimation, his personal strength was only that of an average Genin, and a Genin who didn't know any ninjutsu at that. While he had made a bit of a name for himself at the academy, he was still a nobody in the grand scheme of the Hidden Hot Water Village.
He spent the rest of his vacation as usual, training his body and diligently extracting chakra.
Until... Inoshita Rino came looking for him.
In his room, his instructor held an early graduation application form, looking at Kael with a serious expression. Kael, on the other hand, looked troubled.
"I don't want to graduate so soon. I feel like I still have a lot to learn."
"Tch!" Inoshita scoffed, a look of disdain on his face. "Stop pretending. You think I don't know how strong you are? I'm probably no match for you now. The war in the village has died down, but we've lost a lot of shinobi and need fresh blood. Graduating early and becoming a ninja will allow you to grow stronger faster. Isn't that what you've always wanted?"
Inoshita frowned at Kael's distressed expression.
Kael let out a bitter laugh. He was truly at a loss. "Rino-sensei! Uncle Rino! Old man Rino! What strength do I have? I don't know a single ninjutsu. You heard from the others; the only reason I was able to kill that Jashinist Chunin was because of my summons, and even then, it was a near-death experience..."
"I went out of my way to get you this early graduation spot. You really don't want it?"
After fighting alongside each other several times, Inoshita and Kael had grown close. Kael had also saved his life. He genuinely didn't want to see Kael waste his time in the academy. In his eyes, at thirteen or fourteen years old, the exceptionally talented Kael was in his prime for rapid growth.
He remembered the geniuses of Konoha's younger generation, like the White Fang and the Sannin, who had all displayed incredible talent and strength in their youth. As the rare genius of the Hidden Hot Water Village, Kael should do the same and turn his potential into real strength as soon as possible.
