As soon as I stepped outside, the cool morning air brushed against my face, carrying the light scent of pine and wet earth. I could hear the gravel crunching under my slippers as I headed down the porch steps and that's when I spotted them.
Keith and Mom were just getting out of the car, their faces lighting up like they hadn't been the ones who orchestrated this entire grounding disguised as some sort of therapy. Mom waved enthusiastically before practically sprinting toward me, her heels clicking on the stones, floral dress fluttering behind her.
"Oh, sweetheart!" she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around me before I could process what was happening. "I missed you so much, my baby boy!"
