Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Use of Seed Bomb

"Do you really think you can dodge Leafeon's Razor Leaf so easily?"

Nozomi's lips curved into a faint smile as he watched Pidgeotto struggling to flap its wings harder, trying to gain altitude.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

Three Razor Leaves shot off in different directions, yet as if guided by invisible strings, they arced gracefully in the air, converging from three angles toward Pidgeotto.

"Pii!"

The Pidgeotto's rapid ascent allowed it to evade the first Razor Leaf, but the next two struck its body.

Swish.

A flurry of red feathers drifted down from the sky.

Leafeon's Razor Leaf had grazed the top of Pidgeotto's head, cutting almost all the feathers near the roots and leaving the bird with a bald spot. The once-proud Pidgeotto now looked utterly ridiculous.

Gary froze for a moment at the sight.

"Pidgeotto…"

Then he immediately snapped back to reality and shouted at Nozomi:

"Nozomi!"

"Ahem… sorry, that was an accident. Completely unintentional," Nozomi said, his voice apologetic, but the corners of his lips betrayed him with a smile.

It really was an accident—Leafeon had aimed for Pidgeotto's wings, but the bird's large movements inadvertently exposed the feathers on its head to the Razor Leaf.

"You're still smiling?"

Seeing Nozomi's expression, Gary's patience snapped.

Of course, it wasn't entirely Nozomi's fault. Compared to the surrounding trainers who were already laughing out loud, he was restraining himself fairly well.

But Gary didn't care. Seeing Pidgeotto like this, he was determined to strike back.

"Pidgeotto! Use Gust!"

"Getting serious, huh?" Nozomi finally dropped his grin as he saw Gary's earnest expression. He extended his hand, commanding Leafeon:

"Leafeon, Magical Leaf!"

A barrage of leaves shot toward Pidgeotto along the direction of Nozomi's finger, colliding midair with Hurricane. The two attacks merged into a chaotic green storm.

Leafeon struggled to control Magical Leaf against the force of Hurricane. With its large surface area and Leafeon's level being barely higher than Pidgeotto's, it was powerless to overcome the whirlwind.

"The situation looks unfavorable for Leafeon," an observing trainer remarked.

"Even without type advantages, Flying-types have a natural aerial superiority over most Pokémon—especially against Grass-types like Leafeon!"

This comment drew nods of agreement from several trainers.

Flying-types naturally dominate non-flying Pokémon when airborne. Gary's calm expression betrayed no surprise—he considered this entirely normal. Though he had allowed Nozomi's Leafeon a slight edge through his own carelessness earlier, type advantage now gave Pidgeotto a significant upper hand.

Seeing Magical Leaf slipping out of Leafeon's control, Nozomi made a decisive call:

"Leafeon, detonate Magical Leaf!"

Rather than continue expending energy to control an obviously uncontrollable attack, it was far better to blow it up.

"Mi guu!"

Leafeon chirped softly, acknowledging the command. It had realized it could no longer control the leaves, though it didn't know the next step.

The Magical Leaves exploded violently.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The shockwaves shattered the storm's cohesion, reducing it to chaotic gusts. These wild currents posed a serious challenge for the Pidgeotto still hovering above.

Buffeted by the turbulent air, Pidgeotto struggled to maintain its position. Seizing the moment, Leafeon on the ground rapidly formed a Seed Bomb.

"Leafeon, use your tail to launch the Seed Bomb!"

Nozomi had been training Leafeon to use Iron Tail for some time. Though the technique was not yet perfected, the results were promising.

A silver flash ran along Leafeon's tail. Bracing itself, it leaped and struck the Seed Bomb into the air, aiming straight for the Pidgeotto caught in the gusts.

"This…"

"Can it even hit?"

The onlooking trainers froze.

Seed Bombs are generally used against bulky Pokémon, not fast, flying ones like Pidgeotto. Pidgeotto's evolved form, Pidgeot, can reach speeds of Mach 2; Pidgeotto might be slower, but avoiding such an obvious projectile should be easy.

"Pidgeotto, watch out!"

Gary wasn't overly concerned either. His thought mirrored the surrounding trainers': there was no way this clumsy attack could hit. He simply reminded Pidgeotto to dodge.

The Seed Bomb traced a parabolic arc toward the Pidgeotto. The bird maneuvered through the chaotic wind, seemingly set to evade the falling projectile.

Then Nozomi snapped his fingers.

"Leafeon, use Razor Leaf to adjust the Seed Bomb's trajectory!"

Razor Leaf altering the Seed Bomb's path? How was that possible? Trainers watched in disbelief as Leafeon fired three Razor Leaves from the ground.

The leaves streaked upward, arriving faster than expected.

They lightly tapped the Seed Bomb at three separate points in midair.

The Seed Bomb, which was already veering away from Pidgeotto, recalibrated and now hurtled directly toward its target.
