Ahmm… mhmm…
My body stretches on its own, still heavy with sleep. Somewhere beside me, my phone keeps ringing—insistent, annoying, drilling into my half-dreaming mind. I blink slowly, forcing my hand toward the bedside table. My fingers close around my phone, and I squint at the glowing screen.
Dad.
At this hour?
I groan and drop my head back on the pillow. I am not letting him ruin my morning. I silence the call with a flick of my thumb and toss the phone back onto the table with a sigh.
Last night… I dig through the blur. I remember slumping into the passenger seat. I remember Rion driving in calm silence. After that… nothing.
A wave of embarrassment crashes over me.
"Evan, how can you be so careless…" I scold myself and sit up quickly, heat rushing to my cheeks. Did he… carry me?
My gaze snaps to the bed.
The teddy bear.
The kitten plushie.
And on the table—small glossy photo strips scattered like evidence of a crime.
