Chapter 99: Year 1996
Dudley took a slow sip of tea beside the large window inside the Hufflepuff common room. They had just returned to Hogwarts after two weeks of holiday.
He quietly observed the students moving in the common room. By simply watching and listening, he managed to pick up the latest news circulating in the wizarding world.
It was a technique he had learned from watching Nico Robin in One Piece, how she had survived while hiding from the Marines and the World Government by gathering information without drawing attention to herself.
"Mr. Ollivander is missing."
"My brother needed a new wand because his wand broke in half, but when we went to his shop, it was completely empty."
"Really? Then what will next year students do? Where will they buy their wands?"
"It's a pity. Ollivander is the best wandmaker in all of Britain."
Dudley only smiled to himself. A few days before the end of the holiday, he had brought Harry Potter with him to meet Ollivander. There had been two reasons for this. First, he wanted Harry to understand that even if he faced Voldemort one-on-one, the Dark Lord would not stand a chance against him.
The second reason was to ensure that Voldemort never discovered the true secret of Harry wand core. Let the Dark Lord continue guessing why he could never truly overpower Harry in a duel.
"Harry, let's go meet Ollivander," Dudley had whispered back then.
"Ollivander? But why?" Harry asked, confused.
"Do you remember your last fight with him at the graveyard? There must be a reason why your wand reacted the way it did. No other wand has ever done that. I've fought against Snape, and our wands never connected the way yours did with his," Dudley explained firmly.
Harry grew silent, thinking it over. After a moment, he gave a slow nod. "Should we tell Sirius?"
"No. Just the two of us is enough," Dudley replied.
"Alright," Harry agreed.
"Come with me to my room," Dudley instructed.
They both went upstairs to Dudley room.
"Kreacher," Dudley called.
With a sharp pop, the house-elf appeared in front of them.
"Yes, Master," Kreacher croaked, bowing low.
"Take us to Diagon Alley," Dudley ordered.
"As you wish, Master," Kreacher replied. He reached out, placing his long fingers on both Dudley and Harry's hands.
With another sharp crack, they vanished from the room.
They appeared in a dimly lit alley near Diagon Alley. The alley was quiet, hidden away from the main street, chosen by Kreacher so that no one would notice their sudden arrival.
Harry adjusted his glasses and looked around nervously. "Why here? Couldn't we just appear directly in front of the shop?"
Dudley shook his head, his expression serious. "Because you are always on the news and furthermore we don't want to alert other wizards about our visit here."
"Master Dudley is wise," commented Kreacher.
"Thanks, Kreacher," said Dudley. "Let's go."
"But isn't it the same, people still saw us and saw my face," said Harry.
Dudley take out something from his pocket, the wizard hat and sunglasses and fake beard.
"Wear this," said Dudley while he himself are also applying the accessories on his face.
Harry looked at the fake beard before deciding to follow Dudley too.
They walked until they reached the familiar, crooked sign that read Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C. The shop stood as it always had narrow, dusty windows filled with boxes stacked high.
---Warn Ollivander---
"Mr Ollivander," called Dudley, but there was no response.
Harry also tried to call him. "Mr Ollivander?"
"Where did he go?" asked Dudley.
Suddenly Harry cried out in surprise. "Argh... Mr Ollivander!"
"Ahh, Mr Potter and Mr Dursley. It has been five years since we last met," said Ollivander as he stepped forward.
"Yes, it has been five years. Mr Ollivander, we came here because we wanted to ask you about Harry wand," requested Dudley.
"Is there anything wrong with your wand, Mr Potter?" asked Ollivander.
Harry took out his wand and passed it to Ollivander. The old wandmaker carefully examined it, turning it over in his hands for a long moment before speaking. "Mr Potter, this wand has never been taken care of properly. There are a few scratches here and there but…" He flicked the wand, and something shimmering burst from its tip. "The wand works perfectly. Still, it would be better if you polished it and looked after it more carefully."
Harry felt embarrassed hearing this comment. Last year, Ollivander had also advice him for the condition of his wand.
"Mr Ollivander, you might not believe this, but let me show you what happened with Harry wand," said Dudley. He then took out his own wand and used advanced transfiguration magic to replay the duel at the graveyard between Harry and Voldemort.
At first Ollivander was startled to see Voldemort face, but his eyes widened further when he saw the two wands connect.
"Priori Incantatem," Ollivander muttered aloud. In that instant, he knew the rumors about Harry being a liar and Dumbledore being senile were false. Just witnessing Priori Incantatem was undeniable proof that Voldemort had returned. After all, Ollivander himself had crafted both of those wands—sibling wands.
"Priori Incantatem?" asked Harry.
"Mr Potter, I am sorry to say this, but the wand you have been using is a sibling to the wand held by the man who attacked you," said Ollivander gravely. He then explained how Harry wand was made from a phoenix feather, and how the very same phoenix had given another feather. the core of the wand chosen by a young Tom Riddle.
Harry fell silent as the truth revealed, though he had heard it when he was 11 years old. Dudley took the chance to press further.
"Mr Ollivander, Harry wand won the fight between the two, and as you said, both wands cannot duel each other without Priori Incantatem happening again. But what if the Dark Lord used another wand? Will Harry's wand grow stronger?" asked Dudley.
His question made both Ollivander and Harry pause, neither of them expecting such a possibility.
