Chapter 77: Rune

---Werewolf Golem---

Few weeks had passed since Dudley became the unofficial professor at Hogwarts.

The class had progressed smoothly, and thanks to his mastery of alchemy and runes, he even managed to create a kind of gameplay system where enchanted golems would hurl accumulated spells at the students.

How did it work? Well, Dudley had previously won the Alchemy Mastery that once belonged to Dumbledore through the game system. By combining that with his Muggle knowledge of chemistry and mechanics, it became much easier for him to design and implement such an interactive challenge.

The Room of Requirement had expanded drastically, now large enough to fit the equivalent of three football fields. He used this vast space to install his new invention, transforming it into a complex magical maze. As students walked through the maze, enchanted runes would be triggered, launching various spells at them. While none of the spells were truly harmful, their impact was strong enough to knock students backward—it hurt, and it was very real.

Dudley assigned them different tasks for each section of the maze. There were three levels of difficulty. The first level required students to dodge incoming spells. The second level introduced more traps and an increased number of golems that hurled spells at them; in this round, the task was to block the spells using Protego. The third level was the most difficult: students had to both dodge and block, as the golems would occasionally appear from behind, and transfiguration traps had also been added to increase the challenge.

This whole setup mimicked real-life situations—particularly wizard duels. To further intensify the training, Dudley added a werewolf golem that moved with the speed and aggression of a real werewolf. Students were tasked with destroying it.

Some students used Diffindo, while others used Confringo to bring the golem down.

In his class, Dudley had also introduced a wide variety of advanced but legal spells—spells that were permitted under British magical law but still extremely dangerous. One of the more fearsome spells he taught was the Boiling Curse, which caused the sensation of blood boiling within the target. While not an Unforgivable Curse like Avada Kedavra, the effects could be just as devastating.

Why use such brutal spells? Because the moment someone used Avada Kedavra, they were guaranteed a one-way trip to Azkaban.

So instead, Dudley focused on teaching legal alternatives—spells that could incapacitate or even kill if needed, but which didn't carry the automatic criminal consequences of an Unforgivable.

Among the spells he had created himself was a highly dangerous curse that mimicked a hand grenade. Its name was:

"Detonatus Orbis!"

(Pronounced: DEH-toh-nah-tus OR-bis)

However, he hadn't yet introduced it in class because the spell was considered extremely dangerous. Detonatus Orbis caused an explosion near the targeted wizard with effects similar to a real hand grenade—it could easily shatter bones or even tear limbs from the body.

Protego? Completely useless. Unlike Confringo, which could be deflected or dodged, Detonatus Orbis had a fixed fatal radius of 3 meters. If Dudley cast it three meters away, the explosion's shockwave would severely injure or even kill anyone within that zone. And it wasn't limited to the ground—the spell could be triggered in midair with deadly precision, like using magical GPS. If Dudley wanted the curse to explode above someone, it would detonate exactly where he intended.

Because of its lethality, Dudley only planned to teach this spell to Hermione, Susan, and Harry. He considered the rest of the students unprepared—it was simply too dangerous for them at this stage.

--- Cure For Werewolves ---

Because he tried to revisit his memories using Occlumency, Dudley managed to recall details from a novel he had read in the past. One particular sentence made his blood boil: Fenrir Greyback, the werewolf, ate Lavender Brown.

He also remembered seeing discussions in a forum where many readers pointed out that most of the characters who died in the final battle were those who had joined Dumbledore's Army.

That realization pushed Dudley to do something unimaginable. He began recording magical data under both full moon and daylight conditions.

Unknowingly, he created two powerful protections that could be used if Voldemort ever unleashed werewolves upon the students.

The first was called the Rune of Aethel-Dag. This rune mimicked daylight conditions. When activated, it would block out moonlight entirely. Anyone within a one-kilometer radius would feel as if they were standing in broad daylight—the temperature and sensation wouldresemble a sunny afternoon. Though it didn't emit sunlight, it most likely could fool lycanthropic transformation by simulating the daylight condition. If that failed, Dudley theorized that adding light or storing the sunlight would make it success.

The second was a spell he called Lumos Solara Maximum. When cast, it generated a powerful artificial sunlight for one full hour. If a werewolf entered the area, they would be forcefully transformed back into human form regardless of their will.

That meant those attacked would be safe—especially from dangerous werewolves like Greyback. As a wizard, Greyback was still a threat, but without his wolf form, his combat advantage during battle would be lost.

However, Dudley hadn't tested these spells in real conditions yet. He planned to meet with Remus Lupin soon to verify their effectiveness.

[He was rewarded with Legilimency skill after manage to create this powerful spell, though it is not on Dumbledore or Voldemort level]

[He also was rewarded with agility and higher Durability]

---31st October---

Today was 31st October, a date that had haunted Harry Potter year after year.

In first year, he was attacked by a troll.

In second year, he discovered the first victim of the Basilisk.

Now, in fifth year, if he remembered correctly in the Harry Potter book, it was the day Mr. Weasley would be attacked by Nagini in the original timeline.

Unfortunately, Dudley didn't live in the Gryffindor common room, or he could have kept a closer eye on Harry today.

After the last class ended, Dudley went to find Harry, who was walking alongside Ron and Hermione.

"Harry!" Dudley called.

"Dudley!" Harry's eyes lit up slightly when he saw him.

"Hey, Dudley," Ron greeted, casual as ever.

A small smile formed on Hermione's lips. "Dudley," she echoed.

"Harry, be careful today," said Dudley, his tone serious.

"Huh?" The three of them stopped walking.

"What do you mean, be careful?" asked Harry, confused.

"Don't you remember? 31st October is always the day Voldemort attacks you," said Dudley. Hearing that, the trio paused—thinking hard, eyes widening as memories surfaced.

"The first year, you were attacked by a troll—that was indirectly orchestrated by Voldemort. The second year, the Basilisk was released, and Tom Riddle was behind that too. The fourth year your name was being put into the goblet of fire. Every year, something major seems to happen on this day. It's like he enjoys causing chaos on October 31st," explained Dudley.

Suddenly, a look of realization and panic appeared on their faces.

"You're right," Hermione said urgently. "He really does attack or make a move every 31st October. I can't believe I forgot."

Harry's face went pale.

"What should we do?" asked Ron, looking around anxiously.

"Just relax," said Dudley, placing a reassuring hand on Harry shoulder. "Come see me later. If anything happens, send your Patronus. I'll try to reach you as fast as I can."
