The music swelled around them, soft yet lively, but to Keifer it was like the world had narrowed to just Jay. Her hand in his, her body moving effortlessly with his, every glance and movement making it impossible to think of anything else.
He swallowed hard, his usual confidence faltering. "Jay…" he started, voice low, almost a whisper meant only for her.
She glanced up at him briefly, curious but silent.
"I… I can't hide it anymore," he continued, tightening his grip just slightly, heart pounding. "I like you. I've liked you for a long time… more than I should admit. You're… you're everything, and I—"
Jay froze mid-step, her face unreadable. But instead of responding, she looked past him, toward the floor, deliberately keeping her eyes from meeting his.
Keifer's chest tightened. The words had finally spilled out, and she wasn't saying anything — not even a hint of acknowledgment. His heart threatened to stop.
"Jay?" His voice was almost desperate now, leaning closer so only she could hear. "I'm serious. I've tried pretending it doesn't matter, I've tried ignoring it… but I can't. You mean too much to me. You… you're mine."
She didn't answer. Not a word. Her lips pressed into a thin line, and she let go of a tiny breath — almost as if she were forcing herself to remain neutral.
Keifer's mind raced, emotions tangled between frustration, longing, and fear. "Fine," he muttered, trying to mask his hurt with a smirk that didn't reach his eyes. "Say nothing if that's easier for you."
He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, just enough to linger, before stepping back slightly. The music carried them on, but the electric tension between them had changed — heavier, unspoken, filled with all the words left unsaid.
Jay moved on the floor perfectly, but inside, she was a storm. Ignoring him was easier than admitting how much she felt, how much she cared. And Keifer? He knew this battle had only just begun.
