Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 — Shadows in the Mist

Arc 3: Trials of the Beast Tamer

The aftermath of the courtyard battle left Eldara Academy buzzing with whispers. Even before the Council could issue statements, rumors spread: Class E Tamer Ashveil repelled shadow beasts.

Lyn walked along the misty walkways, Umbra's form trailing like a living shadow. His mind replayed the scene from the courtyard — the shadow commander, its amber eyes, and the way the creatures had responded with alarming coordination.

"They're not just creatures," Lyn said quietly.Umbra's ears twitched. "No, they're organized… almost intelligent. And they're testing you."

A sudden shimmer caught Lyn's attention. A faint trail of residual mana led toward the north forest, the edge of the academy grounds.

"Looks like our curiosity isn't over yet," Lyn murmured.Umbra's form tightened, tail flicking. "And neither is the danger."

He followed the trail, stepping into the early morning mist. The forest was alive with shadows, but unlike the courtyard, these were smaller, fleeting, testing his senses.

"This is a reconnaissance," Umbra whispered. "The rebellion is spreading its tendrils."

At the heart of the mist, Lyn glimpsed a small portal-like shimmer, swirling with violet and gold — a miniature echo of the vault's energy. He instinctively knew: this was the shadow commander's message, a warning or perhaps a lure.

"We'll have to be ready," Lyn said, tightening his grip on Umbra's mane. "Whatever waits for us… we face it together."
